LA Wildfires, 100K people evacuated and counting
Fnord replied to jerryskids's topic in The Geek Club
Excellent post. Unfortunately, the points you make in your last paragraph have probably already been suffocated in the crib. We are in post-qualification times. Witness appointees in the incoming administration and SCOTUS ruling that lawmakers should serve as their own "experts." Seems like the public at large now believes that because they watched a meme on tiktok they are better informed than subject matter experts. -

1. In many places, no 2. N/A see #1. 3. Where would one begin? Many, many changes. Start with not suspending regulations that prevent incredibly valuable homes to be built in places that cannot support them indefinitely. Those areas simply should not be rebuilt. But, easy for me to say. I have lost no property during these fires. -
This is actually a decent point. While I do not think I could outperform Amy Klobuchar at her job, I am sure I would be better than many other elected officials in MN. What gets me is the bolded. I 100% agree that many (most?) of the people willing to run for office are the exact opposites of who we should want in office. What kind of normal person would ever want to POTUS? It's a position that invites narcissists and sociopaths. That said, I'm heartened that you realize Trump is an unrepentant POS and look forward to you calling out some of his buffoonery soon.

Many things absolutely need a good unfucking. Sadly, I expect little leadership to be demonstrated by the incoming regime and it's acolytes, sycophants, yes-men, appointees, and criminals. In a few years there will be even more that needs unfucking, and we'll hand it over to Dems, who may unfuck some of it, but will righteously refuck some stuff that Republicans happened to unfuck. Rinse, repeat. -
Oh snap. I had him figured as the Republican party chair of the greater Philthadelphia metroplex. (that was a joke, MAGA). A-holes gonna a-hole.

Look at this guy, not even tagging me! OUTRAGE! Hasn't your metal horse-helmeted leader Horsemanure given you instructions about how this works? Don't be a nancy boy! "SAY IT TO MY FACE!"- Horsemanure on a focking message board. Also, as I explained, the bolded was true, at first. Whoopsie. I was wrong. See? This isn't nearly as hard as the MAGA disciples seem to think it is.

Uh huh. Good one. I call you out for being stupid, and instead of refute it, or even (gasp) agree that perhaps you were incorrect, you just take a lame, overdone, unfunny shot at all of the liberals here. Whatabouts are yesterday's news, foktard. You wanted Trump and everything that came with it, you got it. Your folks will control all of it in a few short days. Us libtards have little say. No whatabouts or excuses are left, it's all on your preferred leaders to fix. Take some ownership. -
My very best to call out Horsemanure for his own actions, and avoid catching others in the crossfire by making blanket statements. Realize that his "thoughts" are his alone, and are not representative of most other humans, nor the entirety of MAGA, nor even his brethren of semi-straight, micropeen men.

You could've just said "no, I'm not man enough to ever admit I make mistakes" but we all knew you don't have that capacity. Some ALPHA you are. Being that I've never spent time using industrial landscaping machinery, it's logical that I would not immediately know what a brush hog was. It wasn't hard to figure out. Off the top of your horsehead, do you know what satellite upconverter is? Or a waveform vectorscope? IFB? Sterrad? What ethylene oxide is used for in an industrial setting? Nobody would expect you to, but by your own standard if you don't then you're a metal horse helmet. Keep calling me names, I don't care. But I know you care deeply about being perceived as a macho manly man, and your insecurity drives your posting and probably damn near everything else you do in life. It's okay, not everyone is cut out to exemplify manhood, Horsemanure. Some got it, some don't. You don't.

That's not conclusively stating that the GB fans were being antagonistic, though. If they were, that changes the whole story significantly. I wouldn't put it past a lousy Packer backer.
-
No rebuttal, just a lame attempt at a gotcha joke. Everyone here knows what's up, Horsemanure. Suck it up and admit you don't know what you're talking about here. Can you do it? Can you, the perfect example of a conservative manly man, if we're to believe your bullshit, admit you are wrong? ETA: @Horsemanure. Wouldn't want you to think I wasn't challenging you TO YOUR HORSE FACE!

I did no such thing, only pointed out that despite the nonsense you ninnies keep spouting, there are a helluva lot of conservatives there. Fockin A you're dumb. -
OK, that was funny.

I'll admit it when I'm shown to be wrong, which is more than can be said for the vast majority of MAGAs here. For example, you refuse to admit that the OMG $5.5 MILLION!!!! spent on DEI wouldn't have meant jack shlt to fighting or preventing these fires. Or that suggestions to dig ditches and mow isn't exactly genius-level problem solving when we're talking about several millions of acres of remote mountainous area and no people, money, or equipment to do it. -

Understood. Although Reagan and Schwarzenegger both served 2 terms in that time, it is dominated by liberal policies. Zero issues with holding people accountable, no matter their political stripes. I'm not in the business of defending Tim (nobody has the time for that) but it seems to me as if he is just trying to clear up some of the many misconceptions and lies that have been thrown around. Specifically, there is a ton of blame for a seemingly systemic failure, many people and organizations are responsible and need to be held responsible, and it is not just a couple of "DEI" types that MAGA feels the need to target incessantly at fault. And of course the inference that it would never have happened if straight white Republican dudes were running everything. -
When are you gonna start being one?
-
I am man enough to admit that I did think that at first, but a quick google search informed me that your suggestion is actually dumber and less sustainable than using animals. Which is why I mentioned glorified mowers. CA is over 100,000,000 acres. Let's go conservative and say only 15 million of those acres are covered in tinder. That'll only take 150 months (12.5 years) with 50 machines that nobody has the money to pay for operated by labor that doesn't exist, and administrated by adding more bureaucracy that you guys claim will be filled with ineffectual DEI hires. But you won't admit to your idiocy, or being wrong, or being a victim of your own extremely limited POV because you are not smart or man enough to do it, Horsemanure.

As usual, Supermike is on top of it. He has mad knowledge and skills when it comes to football prognostication that few, if any, can match. Why he's slumming around this place instead of making boffo bucks off of sportsbooks is beyond me, but he sure knows his shite.

An ex and I were hiking in the woods in northern MN years ago. We literally came around a blind corner and there was a moose about 10 feet away. Scared the hell out of us, but it just looked at us, blinked a few times, and ambled away. We've also seen them in the Boundary Waters, though not as close up.

Special counsel Jack Smith's report on 2020 election subversion efforts

This thread might not even make a full page. Americans have shown they are comfortable with it. We are on the downslope as a society and picking up speed fast. Our kids will not have a better quality of life than we did. -
You've obviously never met my wife.

If Supermike, who is one of the most visionary game and betting analysts I've ever come across, says it will happen, bet it. Very excited that the Rams will beat the Eagles.

Where I live now deer, rabbits and squirrels daily (I would trap the rabbits and eat them, but I don't know how to dress one). Falcons, occasionally a bald eagle or fox, possum, skunks, raccoons, and wild turkey are around. In NorCal I saw bear on a few occasions, but regularly saw bobcat and heard coyotes all the damn time, though rarely saw one. Seeing the bears was badass. I was just jeeping down a trail smoking a pinchie and all of a sudden, there was a mom and 2 cubs about 500 yards out. I stopped and watched for a few minutes while the cubs sort of played around and mama kept watch. Then they walked back into the forest. Coming across a rattlesnake while hiking with friends and their young child was a good time, too. I was in central AZ in May once and we were walking drunkenly back to our campsite at night. Everywhere the flashlight went were little glowing dots reflecting the light back. I asked a local the next day and he said it was a seasonal desert spider hatching. Never saw one of the spiders, just their glowing eyes. Eerie AF.

Like I said, there's plenty of blame to share. CA is run by liberals, so obviously they're going to be the first ones blamed. That is deserved. That you somehow think it would be different with Republicans in control is the non-starter I object to. Also, it's interesting when the party of state's rights starts pounding the drum for federal intervention over state spending, in this case disaster relief funds. Not a great look.
