Interesting thoughts. I am not real familiar with the vetting process, but what would you propose for those that do not have a car, or at least don't have one registered?

Skip Bayless accused of offering Fox Sports employee $1.5M for sex in bombshell lawsuit

Since when does being woke preclude one from also being an assshole? I'll stick with my assessment, IDGAF about Skip's politics. -

TRUMP WINS AGAIN! Cannot be removed for fake erection
Fnord replied to edjr's topic in The Geek Club
Do you ever address what is said in the posts you quote? Your only move is to edit it down to a tiny bite of what was said and then vomit MAGA word salad on it. Do you ever have anything real or interesting to say? -
What's best for America? While inflation was profoundly damaging to Democratic prospects in 2024, Biden administration programs like the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act paid large dividends to the regions of the country that had been economically suffering the most — red America. Detailed economic studies compiled by the Brookings Institution clearly demonstrate these favorable trends. In 2020, the 2,548 counties that voted for Trump accounted for 29 percent of gross domestic product, according to Brookings data. In 2024, after four years with Biden and Kamala Harris in office, the 2,553 counties that voted for Trump produced 38 percent of the gross domestic product. That nine-point increase in the share of G.D.P. translates into $3.66 trillion worth of additional goods and services produced in Trump-voting counties, according to Brookings, an exceptional economic lift by any standard. In addition, the share of national income going to the Trump counties grew to 43 percent from 34, and the share of private employment rose to 42 percent from 33, according to a separate data set supplied to The Times by Mark Muro, a senior fellow at Brookings. Time to roll back the progress some more, I guess.

Did the vote not get certified? Or are you being one of those little b!tches Honcho was talking about? What do you care anyway? You cheer on right wing media taking over everything. Seems like your complaints about MSNBC need to be ignored because they're strictly partisan. You DGAF about the truth. -
Thanks for proving my point.

How much infrastructure would it require to vet potential recipients of these services to ensure little or no fraud was occurring? How much more would we spend on that infrastructure than the fraud itself costs? How much would MAGA complain about big government making decisions to screw the hardworking Americans if we did that? Kinda weird.

LOFL. All that's changed is you've become more angry, arrogant, and abrasive while being less inclined to believe anything that doesn't fit into the same narrative you've always had.

Trump won. There are a lot of reasons for that. I read an article earlier today about how basically a bunch of Biden voters didn't show up to vote like they did in 2020. That was probably more to do with Harris' myriad issues than a mandate for Trump. Notice there is no dispute about who won. It is accepted. MAGA adherents have shown a striking propensity for believing what Trump and RWM say, while completely denouncing the so-called MSM and claiming legacy news outlets are all lying to us, every day, about everything. When shown to be incorrect about disputed facts, like the 2020 election, Trump and RWM simply double down on their messaging, truth be damned. Witness the Fox News settlement that cost Tucker his gig. There is never acknowledgment of being wrong about anything. In 2028 when Republicans get blown out, it will be another conspiracy, not simply reflecting on why the loss occurred. Since Trump won again, I've engaged in some rethinking of my positions and acknowledge that I may be wrong about some of my opinions. I am open to change. The Democratic party is seemingly doing the same (not that anyone expects much to change). That no longer happens on the right side of the aisle. Just blind Trump support, even from those that claim to hate him, because the democrats are just so awful. I bet you didn't know this: In 2020, the 2,548 counties that voted for Trump accounted for 29 percent of gross domestic product, according to Brookings data. Biden drastically improved the economic outlook for Americans that voted against him. Anyone think Trump will return the favor, or even continue those policies? Another rhetorical question...

They are probably criminals. These people make money under the table that can't be tracked, so they still qualify. There is verification, but the government doesn't know about the cash. When I lived in the emerald triangle in NorCal, you'd see this everywhere. The illegal pot growers were all on medicaid and welfare, while rolling around in $90k trucks with a couple hundred grand in cash at home, frequently buried somewhere. And they vote almost exclusively Republican.

Skip Bayless accused of offering Fox Sports employee $1.5M for sex in bombshell lawsuit
Fnord replied to Mike Honcho's topic in The Geek Club
LOL. Bayless "seems" like a narcissistic ass just like Trump does. As in, it seems like it because it is obvious truth. I've never been able to stomach that dooshbag. -
When those concerns were universally shot down, where was the acknowledgment? Rhetorical question, of course, since it never happened. Half the guys around here still think it wasn't legit.

He made an insightful, prescient prediction. Good for him. How long are we supposed to be okay with being called terrible names by the dude because he predicted something correctly? -

He makes $7-8 mil per year. He's got the nut for it. -
IDGAF about "community notes" or whatever. I am not on Twitter, Facebook, Bluesky, or any other social media outlet, so the whole fact checking furor affected me zero. This place is my only social media, other than clicking on links. The issue I have is that Bezos and Zuckerberg specifically know that they are in the MAGA doghouse, and are keen to curry favor. In Bezos' case, it's even more egregious since he has billions at stake with government contracts. But whatever. This is what y'all voted for, let's see what happens.
-
Agreed, I don't use those services either. We could do a friendly wager, where the loser has to do something for the winner here in the GC, whatever that would be. I'm not betting anything tangible here. No offense to you, just don't want to get pulled into the wager slapfights that proliferate this place recently.
-
I think the OP has some good points, though it comes across as being a bit hysterical. What Zuckerberg and Bezos are doing right now screams oligarchical favor currying. It's blatant and gross and if they had done the same thing to Biden the righties here would have decried it endlessly. They would have been correct to do so. I'll see how it plays out before pulling out my pearls.

I'm expecting the LA/MIN line to move lower before the game due to recentcy bias. I'm as confident as a Viking fan can ever be (55/45) that they'll beat the Rams. That last Detroit game was just one of those bad "off" days IMO. Detroit had an excellent game plan put together and were playing at home in a crazed environment, Darnold and Jefferson both played terribly, and the defense played well enough to win if the offense wasn't putrid. Vikes probably got outcoached, which doesn't happen as often as it used to. If I was willing to make wagers here, I would probably offer one to @supermike80 that the Vikings will win.

If only it was just a political thing. Our divisions are stoked by politics and media, but differences in education and income, the incredible rate at which new technology is emerging, and the coming social and economic storm that AI is beginning to stir up will exacerbate the threats we're already seeing.

Ten Dead And Thirty Injured Last Night In New Orleans

Right? Didn't he get dosed with something every day for a couple of years straight? I only vaguely remember reading about him being one of the most prominent guinea pigs. -
Preach, Jerry! I won't get into the claims we've made over the years (my beloved wife tends to get into accidents) but SF has always been excellent to me. My experiences from the other side, doing property restoration with insurance companies as my payers, confirmed their superiority.
-
In my experience you are very fortunate. I don't know if these companies handle themselves differently in different states, but across the west coast and upper midwest, they are terrible. If they're giving you good service, no reason to change. All of the insurance companies were a joke in the aftermath of Katrina and Rita. I spent a few weeks that fall going between Lake Charles and Beaumont lining up work and making contact with agents and adjusters. It was a free-for-all of hucksters trying to make a dime off of hurricane victims. Makes me happy I don't live in hurricane country. I'm happy to say that my experiences with State Farm do not match yours.

MK Ultra is absolutely real. I do not believe and absolutely hope that it is not ongoing today, however. It started in the 50s. ETA: LINK ETA2: Senate Intelligence Cmte report
