Elon says that Trump is in the Epstein files.

Feverishly searching ebay as we speak.
  2. Wait-- there was a video? Oh well...
  3. In our often futile attempts to communicate with your alien hivemind, we attempt to speak in a language you understand. Whataboutism is as close as we can get. You're essentially a PhD in whatabout linguistic etymology. An authority. A trailblazer. One without peer.

My boss just took a week off.

It affects everyone differently. My first case was miserable and laid me up for about a week. Second case was like a weeklong nasty cold. That may have been because I'd gotten vaxxed and boosted, or not. I have a very healthy friend that was vaxxed and had long covid for months after. Took him over a year to get back to feeling normal.

I have little reason to doubt your estimates. The issue, AGAIN, is that in order to eliminate that bloat, thoughtful, specific, intentional actions need to be carefully taken after spending time and resources evaluating shortcomings. This is all anethema to Trump. It requires too much forethought and detailed planning, which he is obviously incapable of. I AM NOT laying all of the blame at his feet for decades of mismanagement across multiple administrations. But none of those admins set out to neuter FEMA, and none of them are currently in power, either.

L.A. and nationwide ICE raids/protests thread

I see it. There is absolutely exploitation occurring and it's wrong. The other way to look at it though is to acknowledge that very few companies can hire to full staffing nowadays. In many cases these are white collar, decent paying jobs with benefits in good locations that are remaining vacant for very long periods of time. Jobs many would find quite desirable. If these places can't find workers, where the hell are the workers coming from to fill less desirable jobs that we are accustomed to seeing immigrants perform? How many industries are you willing to see fail?

Covid is spiking in my neck of the woods, so yes I'd say it's still a real thing. Was it ever not?

I am not intimating that it should not be done, quite the opposite. My point is simply that it is a vital agency with myriad problems and that simply gutting it is the absolute wrong thing to do. Real leadership would understand that you do your best to maintain flawed services while gradually making improvements. Trump's strategy in every situation is to hire someone that's easy on the eyes, then blame Biden (or literally anyone other than himself) when the shlt hits the fan. That is the definition of bad leadership.

Sure, tamp down the bureaucracy. Make it more efficient. That is a perfectly reasonable goal. To do that, one would need to install seasoned professionals in leadership. Ones with extensive experience in emergency response and management, large scale logisitical coordination, and intimate knowledge of related policies/procedures. One would propose and enact new, streamlined policies in a measured, planned manner that does not sacrifice the immediate ability of the agency to properly do its job, which is to help Americans in their most vulnerable times. One would not hire a hairdo with altered lips whose biggest qualification is subservience and whose mandate is to demolish a vital, if imperfect, organization, with no thought whatsoever as to what the fallout will be. You're proposing a cure that's worse than the disease.

I don't disagree. I love the show MASH. I also work in healthcare and understand aseptic cleaning techniques and sterile fields. Let's do an exercise: Supermike catches some shrapnel in combat. He is going to die without near-immediate medical intervention, but that intervention comes in the form of a field medic, who is bloodied and muddied from head to toe and using supplies and instruments that fall well below medical cleanliness standards. Are you going to accept the immediate help, knowing that the chances of future complications are very high, but that you have a much better chance to live? Or are you going to say no and probably die because the circumstances suck?
  12. This would be the only circumstances under which I would pay to watch MMA. Happily.

Well thanks for your opinion. What you're suggesting a) won't happen, since the leadership was put in place by your boy DJT, who only hires the best people to disassemble the organizations they're in charge of b) will do absolutely nothing to help those that need it in the next few years c) will cause untold damage in the immediate and foreseeable future Seems like you're letting your stark partisanship and personal feelings about FEMA (which I am not arguing with) get in the way of the need to actually help American citizens when they need it most.

Agreed, it has never been an agency that seems like it's particularly well run, regardless of the administration. But it's better than nothing, and the biggest issues seem to typically arise from poor leadership and lack of funding. What this admin is intentionally doing is gutting it, purposefully making it even less effective. I wouldn't be silent about that regardless of the letter behind the president's name. I also say this as an American that is among the very least likely to ever need their services, so the personal effect on me is basically non-existent. I just have this unfortunate condition in which I actually GAF about people, even those that vote differently than me.

LOL. It's right there in the name dude... FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY. If they can't manage emergencies, which--- NEWS FLASH--- regularly happen quickly, and with little/no warning, requiring immediate response--- within 5 focking days, then, yes, it's pretty easy to find issues with that. Sorry you're so partisan at this point that you take issue with such a fundamentally simple concept.

Thank you Lord for my privilege

I've maintained for years that middle-aged white men in late model vehicles are practically cop-proof as long as they're not doing something ridiculously stupid. I drive accordingly. Now that you've had a taste, don't let it go to your head. White male privilege does not exempt you from effects of other stupid drivers or mother nature, unfortunately.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/08/climate/texas-flood-fema-trump.html FEMA is now handcuffed in disaster response until the illustrious Ms. Noem is given up to 5 days to consider emergency action.

Nice! This one's gonna have legs.
  19. Are we sure he has that many?
  20. True, but after Waters left, the music just wasn't as good. This is another case of "appreciate the art, but not the artist."
