Lots of folks don't appreciate the dangers encountered in the war between New Ulm and Bemidgi.

Facially he, Walz, sort of reminds me of W.C. Fields.

I too find him folksy, not Will Rogers folksy or Garrison Keillor folksy, but sort of down home full of blarney at the VFW after a few too many folksy. You know, typical rural midwesterner, like me.

He served during 24 years. There was no need to leave his limited national guard service to run for congress as there are laws and practices protecting and holding jobs, including congress, while service is imposed. His story is a bit of political puffery. Not the worst ever seen but it does not hold water, particularly his recorded statement about carrying a weapon in war. I assure you, having been to New Ulm, there was no war zone there in the last 100 years or so. I wonder if one could sell shirtswith his face and the phrase, survived the Battle of New Ulm.

In my experience those who served are generally absolutely precise about their servicve records and they are sensitive when others puff their records or lie about them, especially about service in war or combat. I think the recording of Walz saying he carried a weapon in war will haunt him. Maybe not.

Somewhere, someone has a running list of names of those children assualted and those women raped and killed by illegals during the last 3 & 1/2 years. I wonder at the total numbers.

I am uncertain of the rules for the national guard, but don't they serve two weeks a year and then one weekend a month for the remaining 11 months of ther year? If so and one was to take his 25 years as fact, which may be a bit exaggerated from what I have read, he served 25 years times 2 weeks for 50 weeks, plus 11 weekends a year or 22 days a year for 25 years or 550 days so around 2 and 1/2 yerars of actual service which was all training for service when needed and called and when needed and called he opted out. Now I understand opting out was his absolute right. That said to tout his 2 & 1/2 years of training for service he opted out of so that he could go to school on the government's dime, well to me that is not serving 25 years in the army, that is taking advantage of the G.I. bill, which we are all free to do but doesn't make someone some sort of military hero. Were I he I would note that national guard service is a wonderful mechanism to fund an education, but I would not be saying I carried a weapon of war in war. His puffery about his service does not violate the letter of the Stolen Valor Act of 2013 as he did not claimed he won a qualifying medal, but it certainly violates the spirit of the act. Frankly as folks start to appreciate what he did he will be disgraced, and rightfully so.

Sport is objective, performance is subjective. Lots of olympic events are subjective. Entertaining, athletic, impressive, but performance, not sport.

Imagine if all the money donated on both sides had instead been donated to charities. We would have less hungry, less homeless, and medical research vastly forwarded. We might have cleaned up some stream and restored much habitat. Instead we have filled the airwaves which toxicity, angering our friends and neighbors, driving a wedge between us.

As certainly as the left would try to beautify the pick the right was going to demonize it. Predictable politics. The fact is thorwing stones is among our favorite activities as humans and we do so regardless of the sins on our own hands. I agree. In high school I would like to see the schools partner with trade schools. Those students not college bound, and many who currently are should not be, could go to the trade schools half days in the afternoons. They could learn HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, diesel mechanics, and other useful trades so that upon graduation they could move directly into their trade. They could get their high school diploma and their journeyman's certificate at the same time.

Good idea. I particularly liked to forage up in Minnesota for Wild rice. They had strict limits on what one could take. In states where pot is legal the kids could work at growing and processing marijuana and the sales could help support their school food programs, music and drama programs and sports programs and some students would, again, gain relevant job experience.

Drunk driving is sort of the unofficial state sport of both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Before MADD got its way that was not even a blood alcholo limit that would ahve raised an eyebrow.

I have not lived in Minnesota since the 80's. I enjoyed my time living there.

I think schools in agricultural areas ought to have school farms. The kids can work on the farm in rotations during the school year and summer. They can learn about agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, running a business, and processing both produce and animal products. They would get some work experience, have something to do other than get into mischief, and they could help feed themselves as the produce and meat and cheeses and yogurts would all go to the schools.
