I was unfamiliar with the rules for naming navy ships. I had to look them up. The U.S.S. Harvey Milk seems an anomalie among names by the guidelines, but the guidelines do allow some flexibility. Navy Ship Naming

I was unaware of Harvey Milk's Military service. I looked it up. Very pedestrian. Not worthy of having a ship named after him, for his military service. As for his political activism, I am unaware of politcal activists having ships named after them. Is there a USS DR. MLK, a USS Susan B. Anthony, a USS Rhyming Rev. Jessie Jackson? Regardless of the above this renaming seems to me to be something well down the list of priorities, so far down it is on page 10 or 12 of the list. I would want the Secretary of Defenses attention to more pressing matters, but whatever.
