I wish Trump would have worn a giant thermometer on a large chain around his neck, ala Flavor flav, so we could all see how cold or not cold it actually is in that courtroom. It would have been funny and might have endeared him to his new constituency. -

If only that perp had the outlet of competitive sports perhaps this would not have happened. Maybe track and field. Seems it leaped over the dead body with eaze. It could have let out some extra energy had it been training to beat actual girls at the long jump or the triple jump, or perhaps hurdles.

If Squistions summary is acccurate, and I presume it is, Cohen is damaging his efforts to rehabilitate his credibility everytime he says "that sounds like me" or "That's probably true". When the other side has you dead to rights just agree, unconditionally. Anything less sounds insincere and self-serving in the ears of your average juror. (Of course this jury may be something other than the average jury, drawn as it was from a rather skewed demographic) -

He can testify to whatever the judge allows him to testify. The general rule is one cannot speculate on the mental state of another. The objection here would be speculation. The party offering the speculation might try to show foundation that it is not mere speculation or wild speculation. They would try to show the longstanding nature of the relationship and the confidence the one held for the other. Were they friends? Did Cohen socialize with Trump at dinners, on the golf course, or at family functions. Were their work encounters frequent, even daily and did they discuss strategies or did Cohen simply recieve marching orders? Did Cohen know things others did not? I have not followed this as closely as others. For instance today I worked out, kayaked, and am preparing to drive to Vegas for the Dead and Co at the Sphere. I can hardly speculate with any degree of confidence as to the matter other than to say as seems to be the pattern this Judge has a high tolerance for letting the prosecution put on its case. Me, from what I have heard I would sustain a motion to direct the verdict for the defense after the prosecution rests, but again, I have not heard or read all the testimony nor read all the exhibits. -

Nope. Probably for the best. I stood as best man in the marriage of my wife's sister and that could have been awkward as could family holidays down over the years. -
Air Force airman fatally shot by police officer
Engorgeous George replied to peenie's topic in The Geek Club
I am no expert in the subject. My rudimentary undrstanding was after the civil war, during reconstruction elected officials, carpet baggers, abusers of their offices, victimized the freed slaves and the generally poor and uneducated southern laborers. Congress saw this and passed the first civil rights act. That act was passed in about 1866. It ws updated in 1871 and right on up through the civil rights act of 1964 and beyond. Essentially it is codified at 42 U.S.C. 1981 through 1983. Basically citizens can not be deprived of their constitutional rights by any soveriegn or governmental employee (inckluding cops). It was legislation to protect commoners from over reach by government. Well some of those commoners, with the aid of lawyers seeking jackpots began questioning every action by government actors. The courts saw the pendulum had swung too far and feared police officers, acting in good faith might be found personably liable for enforcing extant laws, laws which they did not pass but legislatures did, which were later found to be unconstitutional. The Courts thought Cops were between a rock and a hard place and they , the Courts, crafted the good faith exception to the civil rights act saying if cops acted in good faith on their understanding of the law as it stood at the time they acted they would not be held liable if by the time of trial on the cop's actions the law upon which they acted was found unconsitutional. The courts did not want to hold the cops to predicting court rulings on consitutionality of laws. Well as often happens the narrow exception swallowed the rule. The penduluum maybe swumg too far. Now maybe there is some push back until the penduluum settles at a reasonable place.
