Biden's Uncle Bosey was shot down and then eaten by cannibals during WWII.

Fascinating. -
Been to Hooters maybe three or four times, I don't really remember the precise number of times. Always for lunch. Never been to a Twin Peaks or Tilted Kilt or the others. I enjoy attractive waitresses when I go elsewhere, so I understand the concept of trying to guarantee that experience.

Trump's NY Election Interference Trial - Trump is found guilty on all 34 counts
Engorgeous George replied to squistion's topic in The Geek Club
I have tried over 150 jury trials in my career. There is nothing preliminary about jury selection and voir dire. Every jury trial I had was won at that stage. A good attorney establishes relationships with the jurors at that stage and part of that relationship, part of the credibility established, depends upon the conduct of persons sitting at counsel's table whether prosecution witnessess or the defendant, not to mention co-counsel and staff's behavior. This trial has not only started, it may be at its most interesting and decisive phase. -

I think some judges believe it distracts others in the courtroom from where their attention ought to be focused, on the rulings from the judge and the presentation of evidence from the witness box. Myself, I don't ascribe to that line of thinking as defendants or respondents have a million little facial expressions and body postures jurors are studying anyhow. Use of phones is just one more "tick" to consider as to how involved a defendant may be in the trial or hearing. -

They could make him surrender it to the bailiff upon entering the courtroom. i remember when cell phones became ubiquitous. Attorneys would have them on thier persons and either forget to turn them off upon entering courtrooms or deliberately leave them on thinking it was somehow a sign of status to have one and to have it go off in court. I knew several judges who would confiscate cell phones if they went off in thier courts and who would not return them. -
Americans check their phones 144 times a day...
Engorgeous George replied to posty's topic in The Geek Club
I bet I check mine less than 10 times a day. I often leave it sitting for hours on end as I do other things. I often do not have it with me. -

I hate to see a trial not even at the evidentiary phase and already it has substantial appealable issues built in. Now typically appelate courts give great deference to trial courts on issues such as change of venue and recusal of the trier of fact, but here the issues are more glaring than usual so I cannot be certain the trial is not already tainted meaning why even go through the excercise. When one couples those potential issues with the novelty of the charges and with the potential of allowing rather far ranging impeachment evidence this whole matter becomes subject to question, and criminal trials should resolve questions, not raise them. Long after this trial stops generating politcal discussion it will continue to generate legal discussion. This trial is unique, it is a one off, and as such it will be studied by scholars as it inevitably will be used down the road as precedent. -
You obviously forget the charisma, the magnetism of Dukakis. The Dukakis flags. The "Dukakis" haircut men, women, and babies were sporting. The trend where everybody was getting their picture taken in a tank wearing a helmet.

Blue city mayor defunds police force by more than $8 million to aid migrants

So, road maintenance will be delayed resulting in increased costs when it is addressed and in increased accidents and pothole damage until the maintenance is done. Youth rec programs for the summer will be curtailed or canceled meaning more time for youth on the street to get into criminal mischief. Summer tutoring programs for kids who fell behind in school because thier teachers were giving time to migrants who do not speak the language will be curtailed and these kids may never catch up. Safety inspections on infrastructure, businesses and housing will be curtailed potentially resulting in injury or death, but Denver can tout that it is a sanctuary city. -
Liberalism Is A Mental Illness

I love that someone who posts their vignette on social media congratulating themselves on their parenting indoctrination to a political ideology says "I say this not to brag". Talk about a lack of self awareness. She is saying this exactly to brag. -

Or maybe Honcho stood back from the typical uninformative back and forth we get in these threads to find some humor, and maybe I appreciated his humor. As for your summation of the case at this juncture I do not take issue with your summation. -

Gettysburg, a history by Donald Trump
Engorgeous George replied to Mike Honcho's topic in The Geek Club
This thread has me thinking. What if Trump took his warehouse full of unsold Trumpy Bears and inserted in each a voice box with recordings of his greatest hits like his Gettysburg speech, his request to find 11,000 votes, his reiteration that he made a perfect call, and a few others. I think he might have a best seller there. -
I thought this was going to be about Whitey Whitney from Leave it to Beaver. Turns out the dude has been dead for two decades. or maybe about Whitey Bulger.

They should be sent to California where their skin pigmentation will put them in line for generous reparations even though they just illegally migrated here. -
Do you believe all sin, christian sin, should be illegal? If I covet my neighbors wife, or ass, or her ass should I be jailed? What if I take the Lord's name in vain? If I create graven images to worship should I be jailed or perhaps crucified? Maybe you should render unto god what is god's and unto Caesar that which is Caesar's. Leave your bible out of our constitutional republic.

Maybe the fat, prediabetic man in his 80's had some blood sugar problems after a run to McDonalds. A three Big Mac, large fry, and large coke meal would have a few of us dozing off and then needing a recess to squeeze out a log the likes of which killed Elvis and will be Trump's undoing in the end as well. Oh, it could also be cognitive decline but with Trump's unusual diction and rambling style of speach featuring non sequiturs that would be difficult to determine. -

I think most lawyers, most judges, most decent law school professors would agree with me. For instance I could criticise and insult this judge or any member of SCOTUS right now and what are they going to do about it. Now if I criticise or take umbrage with their rulings whil in their coiurts they may not appreciate it, but if i insult them personally or their staff they can hold me in contempt. As for threats, wel threats have never been considered actionable threats unless the person had the present means of carrying out the threat. I understood you are a lawyer, you should know this, it should not surprise you. Perhaps I remembered wrong and you are not a lawyer. This judge's attempts to stiffle Trump are bsed, to my understanding, primarily on the theory that Trump ought not be allowed to taint the jury pool. It is a highly unusual ruling where I judge is concerned only about one side tainting the pool. I get why that is the case with trump but the court's order would be strongdr if it were bilateral. Much stronger. now the bilateral nature of the ruling would not really matterf if the prosecution were obeying norms,, it would in fact be irrelevant as a matter of fact, but as a mattder of law it would be a correct order. Thjere is also the considertion that truthful statementsare not threats, insults or criticism. I understand that mixed in among Trumps angry outburst are some nuggets of truth. If the Judge does not want his adult daughter being characterized as what she is, a democrat operative, then she can change her profession or he can recuse himself. I do not tht this judge is trying mightily to allow voir dire to empanel a well vetted jury panel which should in theory be fair. In a trial such as this, however, I have doubts that can be accomplished, but so far his efforts in this regard seem unusually thorough. -
