Put away at least 10% of whatever I earned starting with lawn cutting money from when i was a kid right on through my entire life. For the last 30 years that was matched by my employer, before that it was just me. I invested that money well through dumb luck. I also bought an investment farm which I sold to a land developer who wanted to put up McMansions and made a nice profit. I never borrowed money except for a fifteen year mortgage which I paid down in 8 years. (School I paid as I went, I did not take out loans though maybe I should have, I passed up some opportunities at schools I could not afford.) Basically I tried to not pay interest to others but to earn it for myself. I drove the oldest car at work and wore the cheapest suits in the building and I brought my own lunch from home four out of five days. Also I did not pay others to do what I can do myself whether it is cutting my lawn, shoveling my driveway, painting my house, replacing garbage disposals or installing diswashers. Nothing special, just frugal.

Judge's questions are interesting. Is he expressing doubt the matter has been proven, or is he giving the Plaintiffs, the defense attorneys in the main action opportunities to butress their arguments on specific points. I worry about this judge. He showed no control over his courtroom when Ms. Willis was on the stand allowing her to be both non-responsive and rambling at great length with self-serving statements. he is also up for reelction soon in a heavily black and democratic district. Still, his questions do seem to exhibit an underestanding of the issues.

I had a bit of money squirreled away to cover me until I reach my presumptive social security full retirement age. I am not yet tapping into the principle i mentioned. It has been good to see the Bidenflation storm pass, a bit and to see the markets recover and even grow.

I have paid for the care of my wife's grand mother and her mother. Also my mother and a sibling. Last year my mom passed. Her care cost me $120,000 her last year. The bills for the others were less but substantial at the time. I have a fear or respect for the dangers of healthcare bills. I have pretty good insurance but healthcare can eat savings in a big hurry.

Good question. Food, gas utilities. Doesn't seem it should be too much but it always is. My wife likes to spend on decorating. Seems things like sofas and dining sets need to be changed when they are out of style, not when they are worn out. Also I am told we may have to fund a dance studio for my youngest. In the end there will be enough money for my life expectancy. Whether there is enough for my wife depends on her spending habits. Frankly we should easily be able to get 175,000 every year from the money i have plus social security. it ought to be enough but inflation is the killer. The value of that money will be halved ina dozen years or so, and then again in another dozen years or so. When do we start eating the principal instead of harvesting the interest, who can say?

Retired last April at 64. No mortgage, no debt, 3.5 million in savings. I have my doubts whether it will be enough. It will last if we have good health. If one or both end up in asssisted care it may not last.

That damn 10 pin. I've made it wobble, I've made it spin, I've knock it to the side wall and had it bounce back into place, I've even slid it over so it sits in the spot of the 9 pin or the 6 pin. Sometimes I think it has a gyroscope to keep it upright. Regardless it makes a great knockout sound when you send it spinning across the lane and out beyond the reach of the sweep. I love that perfect sound too when you blow all the pins right into the trough leaving nothing for the sweep.
