I have sort of forgiven the Saints for stealing away Jimmy Taylor and Paul Hornung from the Packers. They were basically cooked by then anyhow, and Taylor was just going home, but it cheesed me off at the time.

Man walks in on male prostitutes reading to kids
Engorgeous George replied to Frozenbeernuts's topic in The Geek Club
I would rather neither. My resolution was to read to my own children and grandchildren, including Dr. Suess who has come into some recent disfavor. So too my wife and my progenies' Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles. My children also read to each other and took joy in reading to us parents. We had no need for charlatan preachers or drag queens. An aside- Nature loves wide variety, wide diversity, but according to some fundamentalist preachers, God, the creator of nature, does not. Strange. If one can conclude anything about the nature of God from the study of nature it is that God has an inordinat fondness for beetles. -J.B.S. Haldane -
I've seen that movie. It doesn't end well for society but Charelston Heston does get Linda Harrison, so he did all right.

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs
Engorgeous George replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
I appreciate you don't accept that a massive trade disparity is a net loss for our country. You seem to believe that wealth flowing out of our country is a good thing. I maintain that funding the rise of our biggest global competitor, a self-avowed enemy, one many are predicting a proxy war with, and one who has stated their goal is to replace us as the world's economic superpower is a bad thing for our country. We have literally built up and funded our competitor/enemy. The hope back in Nixon's time was that by engaging China we would open up massive markets for our goods and we would bring them into the world economic fold creating interdependence and enhancing peace. For a brief time it seemed to be working, China, however, retrenched in its own unique system. It has rejected mutual benefit seeking instead world domination. Our trade practices, our endless desire for cheap goods we throw away with a country which steals our tech, our intellectual property, a country which uses slave and child labor to produce those goods, a country which ignores all environmental concerns and which props up regimes antagonistic to us while engaging in an arms race with us is funding our own demise. It might be one thing to have a trade deficit, but one of this scale, based on unfair practices under international law and norms is not a positive. I suggest that instead of looking for articles which echo your preconcieved opinion that you consider the matter afresh, but you do you. -

Math belies your feelings on the matter. None of what i have written is an endorsement of Trump's methods in this matter which I find provocative, even dangerous. -

I believe they went further than that. I believe the argument was taht he was guilty of inciting a dqangerous environment for Jewish U.S. citizens. As to whether his comments and actions arouse to some sort of actionable incitement under the criminal law i would probacbly argue otherrwise, but that was the argument. Whether one on a student Visa gets the protections of criminal due process, or whether this should be a civil standard, or an administyrative determination is interesting. I note that even administrtive determinations are subject to appeal and revfiew. Me, I go pretty far on free speech. I find him objectionable but not actionable. i think my thoughts on this are outside what the Courts have ruled and will continue to rule given the current social and plitical environment. -

When you give me $5 and i give you $2 back you have not profitted $2, you have lost three, that's math. Same thing here. the U.S. has not profitted. The U.S. has lost. Some segments of the U.S. have profitted, but our country as a whole has not. Now, add in the interest payments on our debt, much of which China holds and see if you can now draw the correct inference. -

If you had devoted years of your earning life to creating and patenting a product or a process and China stole it and was now manufacturing it with Uigher labor and undercutting you, putting you out of business, you would think otherwise. -

Whether pissed off or simply following a one hundred year plan China has looked to fock us at every opportunity. They pirate tech and intellectual property, they incessantly spy on us and infiltrate our infrastucture computer systems. They flood markets and dump products made with slave and child labor as they manipulate currency. When nixon went to China we envisioned a market opening to our goods. Waht we got is our market open to their goods and their investigation of our markets so they could rip them off. Do i want trump trying to get into a measuring contest with Xi? I do not. Stormy Daniels has alreaady told us the result of that contest. I do not want us to aggrevate the world's new superpower. I would prefer we engatgge in dialog. Sadly, China always engages in dialog, but then they do whatever they damn well please following their hundred year plan. They apprecaite that the winds of change are always blowing in america. they simply weather any storms. -

I agree. The Constitution stands supreme. i wish that progressives would follow that dictum with regard to not petitioning and supporting activist judges legislating from the bench. I wish, for instance that if one has a problem with the 2nd amendment that one would seek to change the amendment through the constitutional process rather than the legislatures or the courts, but yes, we have a system and as soon as it is discarded for expedience we really cease to exist as a country. Now as to the individual in question. He unquestionably broke our law to enter this country. When he was last adjudicated on that clear violation he stated the reason he needed asylum was that rival gangs would target him if he was returned home. To me that statement, that he was worried about rival gangs, is an admission that he is a gang member. It follows logically. Still, as a court was not asked, yet, to make that logical inference; the man is entitled to due process oveerseen by a judge. Ii don't sanction any executive administration official doing so on just their say so without presenting their argument to the light of day, to the light of reason, to the light of judicial oversight. -

I'm a country boy. I married a painted up City woman. Over the years she has come around to my way of viewing the world so she will move further out. I require at least 5 acres and at least a four car garaage. I'd like to be able to shoot on or near my property. Oh, she still looks good with a fresh coat of paint. -

China has resisted being the market for us we had once hoped it would be. We have been an ideal market for them. If trade with China is stymied long term I suspect other countries will begin manufacturing cheap crap for us to buy. I know I use to get my cheap crap from Japan, in fact it was a national meme before we had an expression such as meme. Tthen the origin of cheap crap moved to China. We already see it moving again to Viet Nam, Korea, Cambodia, and elsewhere. Eventually it may move again, to Africa or South America, I'm guessing Africa since it is a wholly owned subsidiary of China and China is teaching them the ways of the modern world.. -
Correct. I'd be there if my friends were not around or if they were but it was closing time.

Days. That is the problem right there. With the 24 hour news cycle folks want instant results. We are not going to see this establish a new stasis for months if not maybe two years. Still, if we have found the bottom of the markets I can wait maybe up to 90 days to see if new trade deals are being struck.
