    Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”

I thought he abused the privilege and has endangered that privilege remaining in the rules. He was entitled to have his say, to deliver a message, His delay for delays sake was out of line and frankly only highlights how powerless and without a message the democrats have become. I would have liked to see the Democrats offer a reasonable, well thought out series of bills proposing what they would like to do instead of merely delaying this and taking pot shots based, frankly, on hyperbole. That said I object to omnibus Bills. Folks are forced, coerced to vote on a package which may on the whole have more positives than negatives, but which h9lds those negatives. Let issues stand or fail on their own individual merit. Don't tolerate them to achieve unrelated goals. I also object to propaganda names of bills. They distort debate. They are for political gain. If you are passing a budgget act call it the Budget Act of 2025. If you are addressing immigration or asylum or border control call it simply that Act of 2025 amending the prior Act. There are no "dreamers" There is no "big Beautiful Bill" , There are only legislative Acts.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia Thread - Garcia may be deported to Eswatini

I know very few criminals who do not dispute their guilt, even after conviction and all appeals. You have a rhetorical point, but not a strong one. Say simply that you belief he remains entitled to due process if he is to be deported for criminal behavior. Know that if he is to be deported on a resolved asylum claim that the process which he is due is administrative due process, a somewhat lesser standard of due process and one which would allow some reliable hearsay. How reliable years old allegations are which were never adjudicated is an open question. Were I the Immigration Magistrate I would approach those with a jaundiced eye

Kilmar Abrego Garcia Thread - Garcia may be deported to Eswatini

No one knows to an absolute certainty so folks can remain ensconced in their rhetorical point even while they know to a clear and convincing standard that he did so and she failed to cooperate so that she can continue his financial support of the family or so that he would not retaliate against her, which are both incredibly common occurances in domestic matters. You win the more or less meaningless rhetorical point. Those going back and forth on this with you might ask whether you belive it more likely than not that he did, and if you are truthful and familiar with the dynamics of domestic violence you would condede it is more likely than not, though it remains legally unproven. In the end this argument is more or less irrelevant. Is he here lawfully? Has he taken advantgage of an overly liberal and poorly staffed asylum system? Is he a danger to the community, those are the questions. Give him his due process I say. Also, should he have still been under the jurisdictional authority of the United States and the United States prematurely ceded that jurisdiction causing him harm he is entitled to damages, even if he turns out to be a scum bag.

I clerked for two years for the Appeals Court. I also served as a Magistrate, briefly. But no, I am not now, nor have I ever been a judge. Now I am retired and am nothing more than an intoxicant.

Who here still supports the violence in Chicago?

I would be interested in which policy of the current adminnistration encouraged, facilitated, or allowed a late night drive by shooting at a Rap album release party outside a night club. Is it the administrations support of drilling making gas affordable and so facilitating driving?

So I read the First Amended and Supplimental Complaint which is not an affidavit, though I still took your meaning. Were I the Court I would have directed the Plaintiffs to refile it within 72 hours deleting the hyperbolic and libelous assertions and conclusions contained therein. I would have directed them to plead the facts, and where they are alleging unsubstantiated matters to have noted them as such. I would have directed the Plaintiffs to refrain from emotional arguments and summations of evidence and instead to concentrate on the legal basis for the relief sought. I would remind and admonish the Plaintiffs that their political arguments, their clear quest for public attention are not a proper province of the Courts. Complaints are for setting forth facts and the law under which relief may be granted, not for arguing speculative matters. Here's a guideline, if the respondents cannot simply admit or deny an allegation and instead would have to argue against a political position libelous of their motive it does not belong in the Complaint. There will be evidentiary hearings and potentially a trial where it is appropriate to address such matters.

I heard a report that of the 18, 13 were female. That use to be off limits.

    The Diddy Trial

I have not followed this matter. It does surprise me that he apparently paid to ahve Escorts poung his girlfriend. i would think, having seen her, that there would have been plenty of volunteers to do so for free. I imagine he will monetize the trial with song, book, and even movie.

Several SCOTUS decisions coming out today.....

Several Colorado jurisdictions had preferences and/or set asides for minority and women businesses in government contracting. I had to write such an ordiance scheme for one municipality. Then the Purchasing Department had to affirmatively go out and seek out those firms to make bids as they still chose to not bid or were unaware of the law. Seeking them out cost money. Then, the Purchasing Department had to train them on how to submit bids, they did not know how to do so. When they would contact me I would encourage them to do an open records request for the winning bid from the last time the contract had been awarded and to go to school off that bid, but they still needed training, which cost the government time and money. Finally we started getting bids from such firms. We did not look closely at their ownership, their qualification as women owned or minority owned. Informally it was fairly clear that they were fronts for existing businesses. Whether that status is what was intended by the legislation, whether that served as a way in to business for some and they eventually flourished on their own who can say. My experience in engineering is extremely limited. I got a Chem E. degree in the 70's. The classes then were 90% male, a real bummer as far as dating in school. In the 80's i gaduated from law school. My graduating class was 60% female. 6 of then top 10 people in the class were female. I have daughters. I support opportunity for women. i do not believe they need any set asides to achieve, they are more than capable and are doing well.

    50 Old Items Quiz

    42. That said I am old and had old country relatives who kept items from their youth around their homes. Also as a kid my parents use to take us to places like Williamsburg and the Ford Museum and the Smithsonian and force us to look at this stuff. Seems we had to view the Daniel Webxter House and maybe Alexander Graham Bell's home and workshop. They all blend together now in my head except for the naked chicks at Williamsburg. My kid brother and I climbed a tree in Williamsburg that looked over the costuming area for the female cast members (historical reenactors). It ws an enclosure with no roof. WE got spotted and cahsed, but not caught.

    Alligator Alcatraz

Since at one time it was an airport I presume there is at least one road in and out. At best it should be described as partially or mostly surrounded by swamp, but it is not as if it is an island. Granted, escapees, if any, would be fairly easy to locate if they tried to run out along whatever roadway there is, but they would have that option. Also, is swamp boat or swamp buggy use prohibited in the vicinity? Kristi Noem seems pretty tall and svelte in that clip.
