NPR chief admits dismissing Hunter Biden laptop story was a mistake

87 seems like a high number for editors for a single organization. Of course I have never worked in a news room nor at a radio station. The number just shocks me. Now the 100% of them being registered democrats does not shock me as like begets like. I note our society is not very tolerantof like begetting like in institutions dominated by certain currently disfavored demographics, but that aphorism seems true of us as a species. -
Trump's objection to his Colorado Statehouse Portrait

A salient question. Frankly I think the portrait did a poor job of capturing the orangeness of his complexion during the first term, something he has since toned down a bit. -

I seem to recall some polls stating that the laptop story, if released and reported upon, would ahve swayed a numberof votes in the 2020 election. I amy be remembering that wrongly,or I may not have been fully cognizant of the agendas behind those polls but that is my recollection. Now whether the information may have changed enough votes to effect teh outcome of that election, well that is another matter and one upon which I have no opinion. I do think that those suppressing the story had an opinion on its importance, though. -

I wonder what will happen to the portrait now that it is removed. Will it be destroyed, sold at auction, donated to Alec Baldwin? -

I have enjoyed NPR over the years. I have also been surprised that they continue to recieve government funding. This question or debate has been going on for 40 years. Their funding survives every time though funding of such is not, in my view, even remotely within the government's proper purview particularly while we are running deficits. In the past when I share that view i get the very standard "well it is only a drop in the bucket, a tear in a salty ocean" response. That, of course, does not address the issue of government funding of such an entity. Let them stand or fall on their own merit. Tis reminds me.I have not financially supported NPR in many years. I use to. I no longer do. When I use to it was without regard for their clear political bent. I did so as their programming and analysis was thought provoking and well written, which I enjoyed. Threre is still much excellence coming from them which now fights its way through an increasingly thick bias fog, yet the intellegence of the construction of their analysis remains, generally, above what one can consume elsewhere in many cases. Of course I am a creature of habit and have not ventured into the wide universe of podcasts so perhaps one can find equally insightful commentary in that universe. -

Still holding out. It is no sacrifice since I have taste buds. Of course my boycott had nothing to do with Dylan Mulvaney, it has to do with I do not like rice in my beer.

Among my negative views on you I have never made the claim that you welched. You contemplated justifying doing so, perhaps, but you never crossed what I see as that line and I will never say, or imply, that you did. That would be inaccurate. -

I agree he did nothing morally or legally wrong. I would go so far as to say he provided a public service in bringing to light the shamefully cavalier security practices of the inexperienced Cabinet. I would argue he conflated, a bit, the import of the information disclosed by refering to them as war plans but the story here, to me, is frankly the incompetence of the officials involved in allowing this mistake. -

Had Rep. Crocket referred to Gov Abbot as the Travell Agent in Chief, or as Governor Greyhound, or as the Mayflower Van lines Governor I could believe, and would have believed, her explanation. Governor Hot Wheels, well her explanation does not pass the sniff test. As for Tim, I don't care that he is liberal. You are quite liberal and I like and respect you. I get along with the liberals here because on many issues I am liberal. True I am fiscally conservative and I am a constitutionalist which means I oppose judicial activism, but I am hardly far right or a MAGA sort of fellow. No, the thing that bugs me about Tim is he states his opinions as facts, he purports to cite studies as indisputable facts when he has not read them or understood them and as often as not they actually refute the proposition for which he cites them, and frankly he is a liar. He cedes points only after there is no other option. He does so to pretend he is open minded, and yet a day, week, or month later he goes right back to espousing the completely discredited crap he admitted to earlier under duress of the facts to try to save face. He believes none of us have any memory. Basically he routinely insults our intelligence. When you couple that with him being a poor sport and trying to weasel out of a bet/bed of his own making, insulting me as he did so and lying about the history of the matter only to have me resolve the matter magnanimously by releasing him from his obligations, well I just don't like him, and his posting style, didactic as it is, reminds me of that on a daily basis. Is it immature of me to poke at him, sure. But if he does not like it he can go and infest another place with his drivel. Maybe he should create his own site instead of arriving at communities built by others and trying to appropriate them to his own use by his overly ubiquitous presence. -

Good advice, generally. in this instance I find her tone and look unmistable and her "explanation" to fail the sniff test. Still, your point is generally taken by me. In fact I believe you will generally find me restrained and prudent, just not so much in this particular instance. -

Her meaning, and the naughty joy she took immediately upon making the comment were and remain unmistakable. All you are telling us is what we already know, you are so blinded by partisanship you are unable to discern context, though you like to claim otherwise. -

I try to leave room that some are from time to time reasonable and genuinely concerned for our national security though I do recognize that political posturing and opportunism seems a substantial element in much of this kerfuffle. Your mileage may vary. -

BTW, I would let the Irainians, the Yemenies, and the houthies all know that any counter measures will be met with massively disproportionate military and economic sanctions. I would let them know that an act by one will be treated as an act by all. Their actions ahve been acts of war. If congress had any balls they would have already stated as much.
