Republicans introduce amendment so trump can get third term
Engorgeous George replied to TrailGuy's topic in The Geek Club
I look to the time it took to ratify the last adopted amendment, the 27th, and I figure Trump would have to live to be around 260 to 275 before he could run for his third term. I'm not really worried about it happening. i am worried for the mental health of legislators wasting time and effort on this. I suppose they do so to feed red meat to their dumbest constituents adn to appease the ego of an egomaniac, but to me that is an abuse of their office. What they should be doing is: establishing Justice, insuring domestic Tranquility, providing for the common defence, promoting the general Welfare, and securing the Blessings of Liberty to us and our Posterity. -

It is most categorically not an impeachable offense. Not remotely. It is the exercise, abusively in my mind, of an unfettered, enumerated Presidential power. Your wishcasting otherwise just emphasizes your rabid partisanship. That you may have heard other moonbats on the radio share your delusion does not make it so, not remotely. As for getting off free, I suppose there are some who have not spent a fortune on defense and who have not yet been convicted and served prison time. Not many, but some. but even they have lived with the knowledge they were being investigated pending charges, and they likely have spent a substantial amount on lawyers. They did not get off free. You don't like the pardon power. Neither do I. Not when it is used by partisan politicians rather than Statesmen Presidents which I would argue we have not had in my lifetime. Still your advocacy of the insane is constitutionally offensive as some simp somewhere may take up your idiocy and give it breath.
-
Or, you know, you could just admit you are full of sh!t and so partisan that you think a President exercising a Constitutionally granted right, and not for personal gain for to cover up a crime or treason, is an impeachable offense. Me, I am going to stick to the narrative that a President exercising a clearly enumerated Constitutional right even if uncautiously, is not remotely, and never will be remotely, considered an impeachable offcense by any but frankly the insane.

Barack and Michelle Obama are now "just friends" after 30 years of marriage, with rumours of an affair with Jennifer Ani
Engorgeous George replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
There are some folks whose sexual activities I simply do not care to speculate upon. Barack and Michelle Obama are not on the top of the list, but they are up there. The top of the list would include Oprah, Rosie O'Donnell and Joy Behar. If I had to think about any of them having sex with a partner i believe i would picture Mitch McConnell as the aprtner because I wouldpicture him looking even more distressed than he normally does, and I find his look comical, like that of a man who knows he can'tmhold back the impending shart while he addresses the press. -

The response is so perfect for those supporting deportation that one might suspect this was a set up, an actor. Myself, I don't think so,but I bet there will be conspiracy theories on this soon enough. -

Joe Biden pardons Anthony Fauci, Mark Milley and the Jan. 6 committee
Engorgeous George replied to squistion's topic in The Geek Club
Sounds like the sort of person who ought to be pardoned. A person with contrition. a person who has candidly looked squarely at her own behavior. A person, would estimate, is extremely unlike to get induced again to unwise and illegal action. Go granny, go granny, go granny go! The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena) - YouTube Music -
I would agree that he abused the intended purpose of the pardon power by giving blanket pardons to a wide class of folks who can be considered his supporters without looking into the individual merits of the matters. (I note that the founders made the power absolute so abuse was built in. Those with integrity should ignore the temptation, but as we ahve seen integrity is in short supply, and going back decades upon decades.) I agree that he cannot negate the settled meaning of the 14th amendment by fiat. It disturbs me that he is contemplating recess appointments just because the democrats are delaying votes to get his goat. I mean, after all, the republicans pulled the same dumb stunt themselves seeking a bit of camera time to spread their own propoganda four short years ago. I suspect or expect that as this lame duck gets frustrated with the pace of anything he will take libertiesd with the constitution as I understand it. I do not rust nor respect this venal little narcissist in the least.

You should read the article you cited instead of just rushing to look for an article with a title that at first blush can be misinterpreted to suport your unsupportable position. The article actually makes the case that pre-emptive pardons such as Biden gave his family and the J6 Committee, pardons which obstruct justice which impede investigations, may be an impeachable offense. The article does not make the case that pardoning the really guilty, after the fact of investigation or charging, and certainly not after trial is in any way an improper use of the power.

As I thought. So much for your oft repreated refrain that you are here for discussion and are open minded. Your stance here is about as didactic as any I have seen.

Sadly, like you, I suspect partisanship might rule the day. I would hope that integrity would trump blind partisanship, but events of the last two decades, and the last 8 years or so in particular give me doubts. He, in theory, cannot order the DOJ as to how to do their job. He, can, however, dismiss his appointees there if they disappoint him which is fairly strong negative control. As for what Prosecutor would risk life or career, who can say, but there are always a few, some out of integrity, and some out of desire for the limelight.

Much as I find Schumer to be beyond odious, I would have to say Trump would need to be indicted. Also, I believe it to be a violation of Senate and House rules and protocol for the President to appear without invitation so in addition to being murder, by god, it would be bad form. And like Woodrow F. Call I hate rude behavior in a man. https://youtu.be/wLAY15lB4I4

Go on.... Explain how exercising the pardon power is an impeachable offense and an act of treason. Feel free to cite caselaw. I look forward to considering the merits of your position.

I doubt he would either.

So, you are one of the considerate ones?

Tom Holman is going to have to step it up. 308 arrest in a day only amounts to 112,000 a year. That is a drop in the bucket.

What Reagan did was establish the principle that though we claim we are a nation of laws we are really cowards whenever it is morally expedient to ignore the law. We are reaping the harvest of that now and have been ever since we did not have the grit to stand by our professed beliefs. Any benefits to be had from immigration or guests workers can and should be ahd from legal immigration and guest worker policies.
