This Is A Once In A Lifetime New Orleans Event
Engorgeous George replied to BunnysBastatrds's topic in The Geek Club
No sooner does Trump declare it the Gulf of America than it snows from New Orleans to Galveston. I'm not sure waht that means, but it might mean this thread can get a few more responses. -
I am in agreement with you that he was not the officer to have in that assignment. Another officer and things may have played out very differently and Ms. Babbit may have only been in jail instead of in a coffin.
-
I am sharing a perspective with Strike, not quibbling. As for Chauvin I found his response justified as to the action, but not as to the duration of the action or his failure to assess moment to moment whether the action was still required.
-
I seem to recall this exact scenario playing out at a packing plant in Ft. Collins some years back.
-
I would have a difficult time getting to murder. The act was intentional, true, but the intent was to repel a mob surging towards an officer. Had he analyzed the situation more carefully he may have determined that a tiny female in a vulnerable perch up in a window sill as she was did not at that moment present a danger to him and so did not authorize deadly force by him. Still, with the noise, the angry vitriol ,the barrier being forcibly breached, radio reports of mob action, one can see how he projected the imminent danger. I find myself getting to maybe negligent or reckless homicide, but know in another split second or two, had she hit the floor standing and was followed by a few more, at that point i believe the Officer would have been justified. Strange to think that a second or less switches my determination, yet there it is.
-
I am looking forward to the implementation details.

I see now there was no such event as was promised. Turns out it is logistically a bit harder than simply coming hard with the rhetoric.

It is your own failure of imagination to suspect someone who has problems with both partisan groups is trying to play an angle. As for the rest of your post, posted as is you wont and style and habit in absolutes, yet again you go a bridge too far as there are so very few absolutes in life other than absolute zero and Absolut Vodka.

My pops use to tell me two wrongs don't make a right. He did so when I was in grade school and I would try to trot out a whataboutism. I grew out of that by the time I was in middle school.

Marco from Tropoja.

So there are differences, then, between cops and your junk.
-
And probably rightfully so.

I have a tough time even getting to sedition for the protestors as a whole, as a group. I have no doubt that some elements within the whole nonetheless are easily definable thusly. Heck, a few extreme outliers at the event may have actually hoped for a literal insurrection, though such hopes seem to me wholly unrealistic given no plan for installing a government ignoring congress and the courts and no plan for control of the military.

Trump lacks the maturity to let let go of percieved slights and wrongs. he lacks the maturity to evaluate facts if the facts are a rejection or repudiation of him. I doubt he has the emotional maturity for the Office, yet there he is.

Initial Market reactions are good. Of course what is good now may change by this afternoon or tomorrow. -
General Mark Milley's portrait removed from Pentagon hallway

Exactly what I was thinking. -

Waht happened to the portrait? Was it archived, laminated to the floor, moved to the mensroom, tossed in the dumpster out back? -
I know. Tom Holman promised a spectacular Chicago roundup to kick off the effort. I was wondering whether it had started and whether there might be early coverage. Basically we were promised a media event to kick off the policy. Have we seen it yet was my question.

I am bemused. You always find me a liberal. Timschochet accuses me of being a conservative. Both of you search for agendas and meanings in my posts which are not there. I was not taking a position on the deportations, though I do believe they are long overdue. I was merely wondering if the process had begun as promised, and wondering as to the process itself which we will not know until it is actually instituted.

Treasonous - I don't know that I would refer to civil disobedience as treason. Unlawful, yes, treasonous, I don't go so far though i do much prefer civil disobedience to be non-violent . Stop the peaceful transfer of power - Power was not going to be transfered that day. Election results were to be certified so power could be transfered two weeks later. They sought, ignorantly in my mind, to delay certification of election results so that cahllenges to the tallying of ballots could go on. Whether those challenges would ahve stayed in the 'courts, as is proper, or spilled over to defiance of the courts and the States, which is not proper, is a matter of specualtion. It was an interesting combination of well-intentionerd dupes, stooges, and troublemakers. As for me, my pops warned me about Mob mentality when I was in grade school. That Trump played with a force which cannot be controlled was irresponsibile to say tgeh least. That Pelosi and others did not put out the spark which lead to a conflagration was also inexcusable as it was done for political purposes.

So last night I was clicking back and forth between the CFP game, Fox news coverage of the inaugural balls which was a bunch of sycophants and acolytes having public orgasms, adn Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC who was casting around for anything he could find to criticize Trump and his supporters. The contrasts between the different Americas was startling. Two polar opposites who seem unlkely to ever see anything the same way,and then a bunch of folks who don't give a damn about the partisan divide when there is football to watch. -
Commuted their sentences, so not let out, just returned to the general population of the prisons from Death row, where they had been staying. Basically he tried to retroactively abolish the federal death penalty.

Timschochet as the Van Pels or Harriet Tubbman. Now I have heard everything. Instead of the underground railroad they could call it the PCH pipeline.

I understand why it was done. Me, I don't think it is wise to extend the partisan tit-for-tat to the pardon power. Dueling banjos I like. Dueling pardons, not so much. I never understood the title Dueling Banjos when one of the instunments was a guitar. -
My sole exposure to Carrie Underwood is her opening for Sunday Night football. That said, saw her go acapela without having planned to do so yesterday at the inauguration. That was a bit of a tough situation. She handled it with aplomb. Did a nice job.
