When the East Troublesome Fire threatened Grand County I drove up to help evacuate my brother and went back in after to help clean up. When hurricanes threaten in Florida i drive down to Naples from Colorado to preposition supplies to restore my sister's and my parent's home immediately after. i evacuate them to a place in Tennessee and after we return I give them a week or so of labor to get them back to some semblance of normalcy. Now my vacations are not as sexy as following Taylor Swift around Europe in the summer or taking a Viking riverboat cruise on my FIL dime, but it works for me.

I understand your point. My point is I don't give a royal sh1t if folks living off of the fruits of my labor are feeling a bit sheepish about so doing. I hope that they do not get comfortable being on the dole. I hope their discomfort motivates them. Time to stop worrying about their feelings. I worry about my feelings and my finances. When dems turned the safety net into a safety nest where those birds never leave they lost me. I will not allow my impulse towards empathy and compassion be turned into a bludgeom with which the compassionless indolent and their advocates beat me to death.

If I had been buying horses from the same breeder for the past 50 years, and everytime I bought one it died upon being saddled the first time I would change the breeder from which I was acquiring my horses. In fact I would have changed the breeder after the first horse died, but that's me.

Abbott defied the federal government and installed his own barricades along the most active parts of his border. it turns out that doing so was a major deterence. It signaled the end of open illegal immigration. Perception, expectations, they are everything in this issue. WE need to advertise that the borders are closed, that the trip is expensive, fraught with peril of rape and enslavement, and ultimately will result not at a free stay in a N.Y. hotel, but internment at the border before relocation back to one's country of origin where that country's government will then know that person fled the country.

If illegals were fire resistant we could have lined the hills with them.

Wondering if Texas will get that lovely layer of ice they got a few years ago which shut down their antiquated power grid. Could we see that again, and if so can we count on Ted Cruz being on vacation in Mexico when it happens? In rural Wisconsin, back when I was growing up, we encouraged kids to do donuts and power slides in parking lots, on frozen lakes, and pretty much anywhere. That was part of how we learned to drive.
