Now whether the sample polled was knowledgeable and reflective of national opinion is an open question, but your criticism seem like those of someone bent on not hearing the message sent and bent on trying to discredit that message before giving the matter any thought. I would have, unless the invitation came with transportation costs. I would not pay to travel to another city to attend a party where I would not know the people, their backgrounds in most cases, and where I would stick out like a sore thumb.

My point is that it is long past time we accept that each project will be a boondoggle. That is how we end up 36 trillion in debt. Stealing from the taxpayers and being irresponsible with the taxpayers money ought to be a felony. We are about two generations late in tackling this issue. Kicking the can down the road yet again is simply unacceptable and ought to be unacceptable to you. The power to confiscatorily tax, to forcibly take the fruits of ones labor ought to come only with the high resonsibility to be fiscally responsible with that forcibly taken wealth.

The article I linked is 7 months old, but it does seem that of the less than 2 billion needed the State already has recovered 350 million from the insurer. Seems then that 1.5 billion would be more than needed and so more than generous. At 8 billion it seems we are inviting waste and fraud.

Curious, and I truely do not know and have not been following the matter since the collapse, but it looks like the State has estimated the cost of the rebuild at under 2 billion dollars, so why would it need a federal grant of 8 billion? Would that expedite the rebuild? If so why would the Bridge Commission not be responsible for pay back as it seems it may be insured? Certainly getting this up and running would have some economic benefits beyond Baltimore. it would seem to inure to the benefit of our economy generally, but why is this gift needed?
