I’ve spent many days interacting with young black kids, in and out of schools, for almost 30 years. We can argue whether these elements of black culture are self imposed or inflicted upon them, but what Phil said is true.

Here’s an idea…stop “expanding”. Public school should actually become more narrow in what they “are”, if you will. Less government involvement would be an improvement.

First off, let me say that I completely agree with your premise of this thread. Things need to change, but actually enforcing rules we have historically had would be a start. But that won’t happen. Now here comes the “partisan” part. The problem with enforcing these rules is that it’s counter to the progressive shift in education. The idea of what public school should actually be, has shifted too far left. Enforcement of rules, grading methods, parental involvement, and attendance are all seen as regressive and contradict things like restorative justice, LGBTQ initiatives, and critical race theory. Large scale societal changes must take place first before we see change in schools. These mentalities were here pre-Covid, but idiots like Randi Weingarten have gone full throttle on stupid.
