When I was 19, I started working full time. I rented a room from another fireman for about 18 months, and then had saved enough for 20% down payment on a house that cost $87,000. That was about 4x my salary back then. I learned from my older co-workers, 3 things that set me down a decent path. Buy a modest home as soon as you can, buy a reliable truck and drive it drive it as long as you can, and open a 457, even if you’re only putting in $10 a pay. For geeks with kids who have hit the workforce or just got out of college, what advice are you giving them? Is it really any different than 30 years ago? Maybe, I’m wrong, but it seems kids nowadays are needing more instant gratification and sacrifice for future prosperity isn’t as common as it used to be.

I stayed at a VRBO this weekend that had some nice ceramic coated cookware. I’d never used any before, and I actually pretty surprised how nice it was to cook with and clean up was a breeze. I use all cast iron and stainless right now. What’s the catch? Toxins? Durability? Rats a$$?

I would puke if I had to be house shopping right now. Some of the younger guys at work are paying $800-1000 more than my mortgage per month RENT on a house half the size of mine.
