for the record, the commentary threads for the july mock quite often will have comments from the mockers made at the time of the draft saying in some cases why they liked the player or why the made the pick. so if you liked for example a particular pick by ICEMAN you can go into the commentary for that round (or group of rounds) to see if he made a comment as to what he was thinking at the time. this can be a useful tool as well.

Round Twelve - Sixteen Commentary - July Mock 2023
Ray_T replied to Mike FF Today's topic in The Mocking Station
hey guys, I put up a thread in the board to talk about the various drafting strategies. I hope you dont mind. this was a nice draft to study with a few people employing different drafting strategies. feel free to go on and elaborate on what you were doing and why. or dont. no big deal. I'm just hoping some new people to fantasy who happen to stumble on the site can see that thread and learn from our successes and mistakes. -
haha all this trade did was lock in the loss and keep the loss from getting bigger over time. I suppose that's something, but it is not a fixed mistake in my opinion.

sadly I have to agree. fully healthy, Tua is the better choice, but I worry about his health. multiple concussions with at least one being major. This is potentially a scary situation. if I owned him I'd watch a lot of his games, and what I dont want is to see this young mans career end on a nasty hit. I dont generally have DND lists but hes on it mostly because I dont wanna see that play I'd put him on that DND list for me. that aside, I rank him even or slightly below Dak because of that injury risk. one piece of advice, if hes your starter, you want a good backup on your roster.

rules: best roster of people not currently projected in fftodays rankings to be a QB1, WR1, RB1 or TE1 (so no players ranked top 12 in fftoday's rankings) and players who you think will exceed their ADP assume a 12 team league and assume a roster of 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB and one TE. kickers and defense are optional (include them if you want) same rules to start Lets go I wills start with: QB Aaron Rodgers RB Isiah Pacheco and Dameon Pierce WR Hopkins and Brandon Cooks TE Dawson Knox

probably should have created the thread in july for people to look at and discuss. people can be lazy if its not in front of them also we are getting closer to draft day so now people are starting to look at this stuff a little more. either way, there are enough replies that obviously some people seem to be enjoying this even if you are not.

fixed is a strong word. he will never get all the draft capital back that he spent to get that draft pick
-
regardless of where you draft, It comes down mostly to preference. personally I'd take Herbert. but if you are absolutely against keeping a QB Deebo is your next best choice.
-
what slot are you drafting out of? that may or may not affect the decision.
-
yeah, Iceman was the only one to run zero RB and he also was the only one to grab a TE in round 1. that guy almost always runs an interesting strategy. sometimes unorthodox but often effective.
-
when you click on the link you can sort the whole spreadsheet by team. to to the top column where it says Team and then run a sort on that. then all my picks (and everyone elses) will appear in either alphabetical by team (or reverse alphabetical if you hit it twice) and in round order its actually quite simple. if you need a hand with this send me a direct message and I'll try to help you out with that
-
says the guy who apparently cant spell. I fixed it for you.
-
well, he(Jefferson) got hurt the year he was supposed to break out. In the July Mock I got him very late in that draft (likely last or second to last round) and was happy to get him at that point.

I think there is added value in a stack but also added risk. essentially what you are doing is tying your teams fantasy fate to that of the team on which you are stacking players. when that team does badly, so does your team. so when stacking two players from KC... how much risk is there when KC goes 12-4? unless they are really having their *ss handed to them in those 4 losses I think your stack is fine. ditto for Chase/Burrow but now we are looking at a Burrow injury that may threaten your stack a bit. but I think he only misses a game or two tops so that may be fine. its all a matter of how much risk you are willing to tolerate on your team I think
-
I am feeling good about grabbing him in the July Mock
-
yeah, it looks like the game has slowed down for pickett somewhat. Granted it is pre season..... so it is hard to say how much of this translates to regular season success.
-
I took a lot of heat for that prediction. though in my defense I didnt see any of the WR as being good enough to carry the offense. but Kelce stepped up and instead of a true #1 the team had like 2 or 3 #2 WR and the guys lower on the depth chart and the backup TE were somewhat productive too. I fully acknowledge that due to injury, Mahomes may be working with less than he had last year and I have to ask myself how far they can push it. Skyy will put up better numbers but I dont think hes a #1 (not yet anyways)
-
true, but even in that role they seem to put up numbers. There is considerably less risk with Higgins as his QB is fantastic (if healthy) Lockett is now 29 and Seattle just spent a first on the guy who will likely replace him in a year or two. so if deciding between those guys Higgins is a bit better and has considerably more upside given his role on the team. though you are still giving up a higher pick so its not nearly as cut and dried as this.

I"m targetting Cook. not quite as keen on Herbert but thats mostly because of the dumpster fire the Chicago offense has been of late.
-
yeah reliable RB's should be at a premium. supply and demand. thats not what the ADP's are showing but that perhaps is a different argument

https://www.nfl.com/news/colts-rookie-qb-anthony-richardson-named-starter-for-2023-season I'm a bit surprised, but it is what it is.
-
as this is for next year and not this year: Allen Herbert Burrow Mahomes Lawrence
-
we said that last year, and he was #1. just sayin....
-
well, the exhibition games are usually to confirm what you already know (or suspect) if you have a fringe DT maybe your starter who starts opposite him has a certain skillset. the advantage of the exhibition is that you get to try him against people who may have a slightly (or sometimes drastically) different skillset than what you have on your team. your veteran starters likely dont really need a whole lot of exhibition play unless they are rehabbing an injury or not in game shape or something of the like. CFL does 2 exhibition games with an 18 game season. sometimes that first game can show some players having to shake the rust a bit. but that goes away pretty quickly.

yeah after reading the nfl.com article it didnt look like a season ender but I wouldnt be surprised if he missed at least a couple games.
