sorry bout that. I'll try harder to be more funny. At least if I'm funny I'll die laughing

honestly Top RB's are more likely to step in and perform as rookies if the O line is reasonable. TE's and QB's rarely light it up as rookies and WR will occasionally do it but with WR its a little harder to get in tune with the offense if the route running isnt there or if the QB isnt great. (as is sometimes the case with early round picks)

whatever. this whole thread was basically a cheap form of entertainment for bored people waiting for the season to start. so we got a little entertainment. that's fine by me.
-
I value them about the same. Ridley has a lower floor and a higher ceiling. but because of that high ceiling I'd rank Ridley a bit higher than Kirk. but I do agree, 3 rounds cheaper is likely too large a gap between these two players. it should probably be one round.

for some reason I thought his post was early morning and the news came out later. guess I misread.

UPDATE: Jonathan Taylor: Asking For A Trade - New Contract Extension!
Ray_T replied to LaChup's topic in FFToday Board
well, we dont have all the facts. 1) we do not know how much money the guy is actually asking for. if hes asking for 15 Mil I cannot blame the team for balking at that. 2) you cant blame the team for wanting a first round pick. to draft a player of his calibre, thats likely what you need. Granted the guy you draft is on a rookie contract so money is cheaper, but you also have less certainty in terms of the talent. if the guy you spend that draft pick on is a bust, the buying team then got a premium player for nothing (at least from indy's perspective) I'm sure there is some fault on both sides in this (usually thats the way it shakes out in the end) Lets just keep an open mind. there is a lot we dont know here. -
That is a fair point. Maybe I'd keep him instead of Lockett

UPDATE: Jonathan Taylor: Asking For A Trade - New Contract Extension!

Well, we will see. my personal opinion is that he needed time to refine his technique and adjust to the NFL but the Colts obviously feel differently. in about a month, we will find out if they were right. -

This is normal for rookie QB. until the QB can prove he can beat you through the air, they will run this type of D. -
its funny, hes a smallish guy(only 5 ft 9). you would think hed be a speedster who racks up yards after the catch but he doesnt get targeted a whole lot in the pass game. a guy of his size likely isnt gonna last long running between the tackles. maybe I'm out to lunch on this..... or chicago just isnt utilizing his skillset. in his last year of college, he had 10 receptions for 170 yards and one TD for a 17.9 yard average. you'd think they'd try to see if they can split him wide and use him in that capacity. he should be good. but then I look at the scouting report going into his draft year: Khalil Herbert Draft and Combine Prospect Profile | NFL.com and the report says : Doesn't find his man consistently in pass pro. Effort and technique might make him a non-option on passing downs. so maybe his piss poor blocking makes them not want to have him in the backfield on passing downs. not sure.

Those of you who've drafted already, what were the biggest surprises?
Ray_T replied to DaBeerz's topic in FFToday Board
yeah, if you want to take a RB, But dont like Ekeler or CMC at the #1 overall spot you are almost smarter to trade down if you are able (and if the rules allow it) -

yeah at the #1 slot its a lot harder to do the zero RB strategy effectively. I'd argue if you go zero WR the same would apply. You really force yourself into a situation where you may have little to no choice in terms of picking and the choices may not be good. I dont like drafting that way because then it feels like you may end up reaching on a player you dont really like a whole lot. for me, that is a terrible place to be while drafting. -

well, if there is a player I really like(or who I think breaks out or over performs his ADP) I find his ADP and try to take a half round to a full round early. Real problem is.... depending on where you draft, sometimes you are handcuffed by your draft position. especially if you draft at the turn. if drafting at the end of round 1 and the beginning of round 2, it could be too early to take your guy in the first pick of round 2 and too late to take him at the last pick in round 3. so either you reach, or you be patient and wait and hope they drop to you. so you have to plan for a couple of these types of players not to make it back to you. Thats the way it goes. so always have a backup plan. -

wow, I'd rather have Burrow and Herbert than Lawrence. I agree Lawrence still has upside as hes still improving his game but thats a bit of a shock. I also noticed in the July Mock that a lot of solid WR's could be had late in that draft too. -
https://www.nfl.com/news/lions-likely-shutting-down-wr-jameson-williams-hamstring-for-rest-of-preseason I doubt too many of you have him on your fantasy radar due to missed time and coming back from ACL injury. but one thing about ACL injuries is often the player is a bit more likely to have soft tissue injuries in the year or 2 years after the surgery. This would be a case in point.

its a tough call. MT ski bum has a good point. but in looking at Henry along with Chase, you would have a couple of real good keepers. both options are good. at this point its a know your league thing.... how likely are you to get Wilson back if you dont keep him? another option is to shop both players around. maybe you can acquire an extra draft pick or something that would make your choice easier. if you could keep one (or the other) while trading the other for a draft pick you win all around.

well, for a couple years Dak had the luxury of playing in the worst division in football. now its possible that this could be the best division in football (or one of the better ones at least) and with Cooks Being brought in, its possible CeeDee's not gonna be quite the target hog he was last year. That said, I think the offense is actually gonna be more balanced and efficient but that might mean Ceedee doesnt quite put up the elite numbers he did last year. dont get me wrong, he will still be good. just not quite as good as last year statistically.
-
you wont downgrade Chase due to the injury to Burrow? or do you think that wont make a difference?

isnt there a find a league fill a league message board on fftoday? not sure if any of the leagues meet your criteria (or not) but if looking to join a public Dynasty league this feels like a decent place to look

true. any team who feels someone is the missing piece will move heaven and earth to get that piece. The larger issue is the Defense needs another playmaker. The offense hasnt actually been the problem for this team the last year or two. -
Weepaws does something he never does.... he has a couple drinks before the draft and ends up drafting a QB in round 2 and regrets it for the rest of the season.

it may be easier to target the guys you want but its also easier to screw yourself over in an auction league. quite often the players you are targetting are the same guys 2 or 3 other guys are targetting. so its very easy to get into a bidding war and over pay for a player. Sometimes it turns out ok but a lot of times it doesnt. further to that... if you wait for your player and let other good players go with the thought you are gonna buy this player..... you can get screwed because if someone else is doing the same and they have more money, you can easily end up with nobody because you lost the auction or massively overpaying for that guy and have no money to spend elsewhere. I've seen it many times. so the way you prepare for an auction is a lot different than the way you prepare for a draft. you need to be a lot more patient and disciplined in this format

while it is tempting to get Lawrence, he is the 10th ranked QB on the board. which could mean he may slide later into the draft. while I think he has the potential do do better than #10, the cost to re acquire should still be lower than Mattison. interestingly enough, when I checked fantasy pros, the ADP of both is almost the same. at the end of the day what it really comes down to is what your preference is... from a positional scarcity standpoint, RB is more rare. Most leagues have 2 RB starting slots, and Mattison is the 11th ranked RB based on ADP. Most leagues only start 1 QB and Lawrence on average is the 8th QB off the board. if you dont keep him Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins are ranked #12 and #13 and could possibly out produce Lawrence this year. (both did last year) further down the list is Russell Wilson, Derek Carr and Stafford. see what I mean? and these guys likely have double digit Draft positions. unless you think Lawrence is a top 5 QB you probably shouldnt keep him. Just my opinion. I would keep Mattison.

nice problem to have. what are the rules of your league? is it PPR? or Standard scoring? any unique features to the league that would affect the way we value a QB?
