Shhhhh. the first rule of Akers fight club is you never tell anyone about Akers fight club
-
neither do I. love the player. just not THIS year.
-
well, there were a ton of Free agent RB's on the open market. so there was no real urgency to get a deal done. Now that a couple have signed, they may be a bit more likely to take the plunge if they feel they need to. but if they dont sign anyone, this does speak volumes to him and how his recovery has gone.

UPDATE: Jonathan Taylor: Asking For A Trade - New Contract Extension!
Ray_T replied to LaChup's topic in FFToday Board
perhaps. I actually try not to draft players from my favourite team to avoid situations like that. but everyone does it to some degree. if you have 3 guys who the stats value equally you pick the player you are familiar with or the player you like best. thats usually the tie breaker for most people -
they do take more hits. even if most of the injuries happen in the pocket, thats not to say the other hits dont take their toll. nearly every running QB I know of have had shorter careers than pocket passers. So I have to believe there is something to that.

indy homer? -
well, I remember the coach raving about his work ethic. so this is a guy who is driven to be better. sometimes that makes all the difference.

Ezekiel Elliott Expected to Sign with New England
Ray_T replied to Mike FF Today's topic in FFToday Board
whats amazing is that Bledsoe was a top QB at the time he benched him for Brady. people thought Belicheck was nuts when he benched him to play brady. it was a brave and bold move. one that would have gotten any number of coaches fired, but it was the right move. -
well, the signs were there. in pre season I noted that his throwing motion looked better. but too often once you get a few games into the season, things start to slide and the guy goes back to the way he threw before. so I assumed the same would apply. but to his credit, he was good. he did all the work and didnt let it slide. good on the guy. full marks. A for effort.

ok makes sense. My 2 QB league has no restrictions like that. you can keep any 3 players at no cost. in that format there are usually a few teams that keep 2 QB.

Ive said this many times. in New England todays stud is tomorrows Bench warmer. Belicheck does not like having just one RB. he uses all the RB in the lineup which means its highly unlikely anyone will be a RB1. as an RB2 they may be fine. -
in a 2 QB league? he could easily keep both. you sure about that?

UPDATE: Dalvin Cook Expected to Sign with the Jets
Ray_T replied to makindollaz's topic in FFToday Board
if I can get him for the price of a low end RB2 I'll do that all day long. -
in a keeper league..... tough question. if you need the player to perform this year (ie. you think you have a shot at a championship) Barkley is your man. Bijan may be the better long term play.
-
yeah in a keeper league starting 2 QB hed be a keeper. so you would have very little in the way of useful draft info in that format.

UPDATE: Dalvin Cook Expected to Sign with the Jets

That could work. I suspect His ADP has dropped since signing. though maybe not by as much as we would think. I do agree. he likely puts up better numbers in the first half than he does in the second half. and with Breece recovering, by the second half they are gonna want to get him more carries if hes able to do it. -

the money they gave him tells me hes likely an RB1(assuming good health). Low end RB1 but RB1 nonetheless. He will be a workhorse the first half of the season for sure. As Breece Hall gets healthy his workload will decline some but likely he still puts up good numbers. you dont pay a guy that kind of cash for him to split carries. They will run him into the ground. -
well, regardless of the reason, he coached a large number of superbowl winning teams. there is no way hes not getting into the HOF. I dont love the guy. dont even like him. but as I've said before I have to respect what hes been able to accomplish.
-
true. it is possible that the reason he ran so much was a lack of playmakers at WR. I'm not 100% sure I'd buy that but it is certainly possible. it would be interesting to know what percentage of his runs were designed runs and what percentage were pass plays that broke down. does anyone have those stats?
-
This is a good post. valid points. Running QB's seem to have a shorter career life than pocket passers. likely due to the excessive number of hits they take. case in point: Cam Newton was done before he was 30. sure he played beyond that point but he wasnt that good. dude took a lot of big hits I noticed last year a lot of teams were bringing the heat against Jackson and having some success with that. I could see health being an issue if this continues. Any QB takes too many of those hits, they wont stay heathy for long.
-
I kinda figured..... all good we sorted it out.

This is almost always the best policy on players like this. See with your own eyes what he does. if you have a good eye this will give you a better understanding of what the player is about and is worth more than any stat projection. I favoured Stroud going into the year but it looks like the texans are having a hard time keeping the pocket clean for him. I always worry about rookie QB's playing behind a leaky line. its a good way to ruin a prospect. so I'm not as sure about this as I was about a month ago. that said, while his line is not as good as what Young has to deal with, his WR seem to be better. in the end this should help him to develop more quickly so long as they can find a way to keep him from getting beat up back there. I'd rather throw to Collins and Woods than Theilen and Chark (even if I like Chark more than others on this board)

Etiennes ADP is 31 overall as per fftoday. this is a 10 team league. based on this, he should be taken in the early 4th round. so there is a 1 round saving there. not huge, but I do agree the guy has more talent than Pacheco.
-
I'm the first to admit, I was caught by surprise. this time last year I said he hasnt shown signs he can throw the ball. in pre season I did note his mechanics looked better but I wasnt sold that it would make a huge difference. To his credit, he saw deficiencies in his game and worked hard to overcome them. and good on him for doing so.
-
well, they brought in a fair bit of talent to play with Fields. I would hope he improves. if he doesnt, he might have a shorter career than he had planned. I'd argue if he cant cut it with these WR he just cant cut it.
