I get it. Thats called being a good professional and a good leader. He didnt quit and ask to be traded to a contender like some...... my point is.... if he had been with a different team his career might have been more impressive. I dont know how many years he put up decent stats without a true #1 WR. there was one year all he had was a #1 TE and 3 WR who might be #3 WR on other teams. if the guy had been in a decent organization i have no doubt that the stats you are looking at for him would be far more impressive.
-
this has been the case his whole career. though maybe not to the degree we saw this last year. hes not a great short yardage guy. In real football (not fantasy) you need to pair him up with a short yardage specialist. for fantasy that means his TD numbers will be underwhelming but his yardage will be ok.
-
he was right up there in 4th quarter comebacks too. solid QB. and good when he needed to be. in the right situation he could have had a better career, but he was stuck with the Raiders.

I have found there are 2 things you NEED to get if you get a good shot at it. 1) Elite (top 6) RB 2) Elite (top 6)WR #2 and #3 WR are replaceable and if you are astute, you can get one in later rounds. but Elite WR and RB are irreplacable gamebreakers. when you get a shot at one, you take it. Admittedly it is rare to get more than one of the above on your roster, but it does happen. In the July Mock I got both Henry and Sequon at the turn in round 1. but the sacrafice was that I couldnt get an elite #1 WR. Though the way the draft fell, there wasnt (in my opinion) an Elite #1 WR available at that time(I was drafting at the turn) so I went Barkley and Henry. a Strategy that(last year at least) likely only would only work if drafting out of my slot. number 10 or 11 slot might have worked but I had my doubts either would last any longer if I didnt pick them then and there. I've also found that trading for RB once the season starts is very difficult. people are more willing to part with a WR than a RB. so to me that means I overvalue the RB position slightly.
-
I know thats the plan, but there is always the possibility something unforseen happens. as a rookie he could flop in camp and lose his job, he could get hurt, etc. there are no guarantees here. but I get where you are coming from. either way at that point in the draft I dont mind Jones. but hes not a RB I'd reach for given his age and situation.
-
agreed. though typically Divas still produce. this guy produced good numbers once. Last year was ok. if you pro rate based on games played he'd have been over 1000 yards. but its not like hes a TD beast or anything. hes a solid #2 WR with an attitude problem. though if he pulls that crap with Jerry he may find Jerry will make an example of him. lol. be fun to watch that play out I'm sure.

good post by the way. I like hall and cook if these are their ADP on draft day. I like Cook more than Hall. there is some risk associated with the change at QB but I also acknowledge they may be running the ball more to some extent that will even out but I still think the net will be a decrease in numbers. Jones also has significant risk as they likely are going with JJ as starter in Minny. I really like Harvey as an RB3 if you can get him for that price. ditto for Judkins Robinson is solid at RB31. there is very significant upside if Ekeler goes down and he has to play a full load. Javonte I also dont mind at the RB35. hes a guy who I'd take as one of the first RB4 off the board (I usually take my RB4 earlier than most) There is upside and he showed flashes last year but just not consistent enough. maybe hes done. but maybe he just needed more time to get his game back. at this price hes practically free. why not take the risk and see if you can capture that upside if he shows it.

cant argue with that. lol

naw this beats him by a country mile. this idiot wasnt even directly affected other than his hurt feelings on behalf of his fav college QB. dumb.

OMG how stupid does it get? apparently a distraught fan is sueing the NFL for 100M over his draft slide. I thought I had seen almost everything but this takes the cake. This is perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. NFL Hit With $100 Million Lawsuit Over Shedeur Sanders' Draft Slide

yeah, the lanscape has changed somewhat and depending on how many WR/RB you start, and the rules in your league, the order you pick them can greatly vary. My big money keeper league (standard league, no PPR) starts 3 WR (actually 2 WR and a WR/TE flex which usually means you start 3 WR) and 2 RB as well as 2 QB (superflex) If only starting 2 WR I think its still to your advantage to go RB early, but if you are starting 3, that makes it a lot tougher. the last couple years, Ive typically I tried to get one stud WR early (as those types cannot be replaced) and then wait a couple rounds before drafting another WR opting to fill the RB spots. granted thats a standard league. PPR is a little different

the way I see it, there are only a handful of RB's capable of performing if the line is suspect. Barkley is one of the few. he performed at a good level in New york behind that terrible line. but most RB's need the line to open holes for them. to that end, I'd say addressing the O line was more important than addressing the RB position as I dont think that line was good enough to allow a RB to thrive anyway. so taking a RB early might have been a waste of a pick at this point. their RBs right now are good enough. and if the line improves with the new kid, the existing RB will perform to a decent level. it just wont be a strength of the team. though I see your point. they likely could have gotten a RB in the mid round picks that has potential to develop into a starter, and given their situation, that might have been a nice add. Run with the vets while they develop the kid. but I am not the GM so I dont know what those internal conversations are all about or what the plan actually is. But I think this team wants to be more of a passing team than a running one. so I think thats what has played into this decision (at least to some extent) -
well, earlier, I posted (on another thread I think) that I felt he was likely a 2nd round talent. needs to fall into the right situation to succeed at the NFL. I think the browns have a decent O line, so he does have a chance here, but it is also the browns...... either way I still believe that. based on what I saw, he should have been a 2nd round pick. (give or take) if the team feels the intangibles are there, players like that sometimes go in the first. but I didnt see a franchise player. I saw a max upside that makes him an average, to above average NFL QB if he achieves his full potential. I do not see a game breaking, game changing player. and from the sound of it, the intangibles were not there, so he slid in the draft. Thats all this is. hes still a decent prospect. a great prospect for where he was actually drafted. but I wouldnt pay a first for him.
-
you dont even watch him even if you feel like a laugh? sometimes if I wanna know who not to bet on, I'll tune in and laugh, maybe take some notes...... and avoid his picks
-
probably true. I've seen some of the worst commentary out of there. I'm not sure how those guys have jobs. most of us could do better analysis.
-
you may be right. though a part of me is wondering if one of the aforementioned WR ahead of him on the depth chart is being shopped around. its possible. if this kid is all hes supposed to be, I could see the bucs dumping some salary and giving this kid the playing time he deserves.

they drafted a tackle who is projected to be a plus starter eventually. thats at least something. is it enough? I dont know. presumably they will start him out at guard. all I know is the team needed O line help. while this addresses some of this, I had hoped for more. and I'd argue they needed the O line help more than they needed a TE and/or WR. though I do see the attractiveness of having a young WR who can grow up with your starting QB. -
I like the retooling of the O line. probably a necessary upgrade. not the sexy move but it is something that allows the team to be competitive for a long time if the players drafted keep healthy.
-
I agree. this is where the coachability issue will make or break him. if Sheduer is coachable, there is a real chance he could displace Flacco. of course they shouldnt bench Flacco if he has the team in a playoff spot but this IS the browns so who knows..... but if the team is .500 or worse by mid season and one of the kids drafted is looking good, they will probably get a shot if they are flashing in practice. however, if the kids are not looking like NFL calibre starters, they should continue to go with Joe regardless of record unless they are actually trying to tank.
-
well, I dont think it matters either way. if Sheduer isnt good enough to displace flacco, they will draft a QB either way
-
yes. thanks largely to Joe Flacco. and hes back. while everyone poo poos his acquisition, the bottom line is this guy knows how to run an offense. if the Defense does their job I think there is a fair chance Flacco can get this team into the post season (or at least keep them in the hunt)
-
fully agree. 5th rounders get cut reasonably often in real life. so the risks are no different than drafting a regular 5th rounder, but the potential upside is better. the Browns have been a train wreck of a franchise for some time. might as well go for the potential 5th round pick that can become a home run. me neither. but in the end, 2 QBs were taken deep enough in the draft that if one of them doesnt pan out, nobody will blink an eye. at least they have 2 lotto picks and didnt have to spend a first or second round pick on either. if either of them turn into a starter, the team is in good shape. if neither of them turn into a starter, its a loss, but not a big loss. certainly not franchise altering like the Deseaun Trade. and if either become a starter, they are on rookie contracts so they can afford to eat the Deseaun contract at that point. (mostly) and if Neither becomes a starter, Joe Flacco is good enough to keep the team in the hunt. if they actually make the playoffs, do you really care that Flacco doesnt get them to the superbowl? people have been expecting this team to be the sad sack of the league until Desean's contract runs out. so its a win for Cleveland if they even get a sniff of the playoffs. sure you wanna win a superbowl, but you gotta put this in perspective. I'd say given the dead money to Watson, a trip to the playoffs is a big win for this team.
