yep. it IS the browns....

its also possible that CMC becomes a more valuable asset once the keepers are declared. at that point I assume auction dollars dont matter anymore and then you can get whatever you want/need. unless there are cap rules associated with this but usually in my experience its just keeper dollars. once player is kept its a free for all.

they will totally give them up for Aiyuk. San Fran may be wanting a player in return. If they are hoping to win a Superbowl that would be preferable to just a draft pick. maybe Amari Cooper along with a 2nd might do it. might have to be a first. Not sure the exact market there, but it wouldnt be a straight up trade. I can guarantee you of that.

honestly, when you consider that the offense couldnt stay on the field, and couldnt sustain drives, this D has been borderline heroic. if the offense with Rodgers can sustain a drive even half the time this D is likely top 3. and this D will rack up the turnovers when protecting a lead late in games. best part is... for fantasy you dont need to draft them early

I would also trade Deebo before Aiyuk but I am also not in charge. its also possible Aiyuk is a big enough Diva that hes worn out his welcome with the team. We dont see what goes on behind closed doors so it's easy for us as outsiders to say this but in reality we dont have the full picture.

I think the coach wants to train people in his own image. There seems to be a lot of that and that seems to be his history. build the team from the ground up.

ok some news. not sure how much truth there is to this. but it makes for some interesting debate I suspect.... NFL Analyst Reports Cleveland Browns A Finalist for Brandon Aiyuk Trade (si.com)

its far too early in camp to make that determination. if it still looks like this with only one exhibition game left then Id say hes in trouble. Vets get to sit a lot in early pre season and sometimes dont look the part until the chips are on the table. personally I think hes there more for his superbowl experience than he is for his skill as a WR. while the skill as a WR needs to meet a minimum level for him to stay, I think he gets some leeway because they want that experience in the room. lets be clear, neither of us thinks hes a stud. Quite probably not even a starter. the waters get awfully murky beyond that point when you are this early in the pre season. either way I dont care a whole lot about this as I'm never drafting him in any of my leagues anyway. but to summarize, you think he doesnt make the roster cuz hes not good. I think hes there for the experience and likely makes the team for that reason alone. Personally I think the difference is I'm taking the superbowl ring into account more than you are. and thats fine. that happens sometimes. Lets see what happens.

Giants HC Brian Daboll berates offense during ‘sloppy’ practice
Ray_T replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in FFToday Board
Maybe so. though I think the New York offense started actually looking like an offense when he took over. granted the bar is quite low as the offense didnt look to be pro caliber the year prior. -
I agree. but if hes dirt cheap to get back in an auction, then there is really no reason to keep him. I'd say cost to buy hopkins at auction would be greater than the cost to buy Shakir. Thats the only reason not to keep Shakir. In the end I value both players pretty close to the same. in keeper/dynasty Shakir has more future value as Hopkins is now on the wrong side of 30 years of age. but Hopkins has more present value (if healthy) but we are dangerously close to that point where it flips and shakir has more value. in the end, if you think you can win this year, you keep Hopkins, if not, Shakir is the better bet as he has a brighter future.

to add to that comment, that may well be part of the reason the team didnt draft another QB while I would have liked to see them take the best O lineman on the board its hard not to fill a skill position that early in the draft and that was also a position of need for the G men. a burner at WR will change the way teams need to defend them somewhat. But the line remains a concern for me. but when your line is bad and your WR overall are subpar, thats a bad combination for a QB to have to deal with. Thats why I'm not 100% sure its Danny's fault. sure he has to accept some of the blame, but I'm not willing to place all of this on his shoulders. -

maybe. if the line problem isnt solved I see no point in getting another QB. you'll just ruin him if you put him behind a leaky line like that. given the draft capital that needs to be spent to get a top QB in the draft I think that's a prudent way to conduct your business. Danny actually performed okay the one year they gave him reasonable protection so I'm not 100% convinced the problem is with him. it could be. but like I said, the line was terrible. There are not many QB out there good enough to make up for that. -
I really do like Shakirs possible upside. so if the news sours on hopkins I dont mind him as a backup plan. I also dont mind Douglas, but hes likely a year behind Shakir in terms of his upward progression. and you can probably get him back reasonably cheap if you dont keep him and you want him back

totally fair comment. thanks for the insight. footwork and ability to plant when he throws are 90% of what we wanna see at this point from Danny himself. any word on how the line is looking? Thats likely the larger factor. I dont see Danny Dimes performing much better if hes behind a line that performed the way they did last year. I know part was due to injuries, but Yech was it ever bad. No surprise Danny got hurt. he was getting hit enough that if it wasnt the knee he would have gotten hurt in some other way. it was only a matter of time -
if you choose not to keep him I suppose its an option. its not a great offer though. I do realize at $37 thats a lot of dough to fork out for one player but Chase Brown from the looks of it isnt even guaranteed to be the starter at this point. if that comes to pass, youre giving up CMC for a dollar. I suppose its better than nothing but at that price I'd shop around to see if you can do better. in any draft there is usually one or two guys willing to pay top dollar for CMC. so unless your keeper deadline is tomorrow there is no reason to go jumping at a deal like this.
-
and usually your top starters dont play on special teams as a kick returner. that tells me hes #3 or lower on the depth chart. I dont know what kind of contract he has but if hes making good money I'd say for sure hes on the chopping block as a possible cap casualty. if hes on a reasonable contract there is still the chance they keep him but he has to outplay those on the bubble first.
-
well, thats about where I think it is. its possible Wilson gets a longer leash if the lose games but are competitive and Wilson plays well. but thats a lot of what ifs.
-
maybe, but nobody at this point will pay for him until they see that he can still play. if trading him I'd guess mid season or close to the trade deadline if he looks good early in the season. another point, I dont know that Payton comes back unless he thinks he can win. so I do think they will be trying to win. whether they should be or not is a different question but I think thats where they are at right now.
