this is true. but at the same time Aiyuk can price himself out of the roster if hes asking too much as well. if his ask is unreasonable he could be the one to go.......its just as much about money as it is about anything else. Deebo and Pearsal if they both play the slot, would tip the team towards trading Deebo (especially if Pearsal looks like he can be a day 1 starter in the slot) I do feel like whatever happens will be largely dependant on where Pearsal is once the team has had a chance to evaluate him at camp. if hes not ready to start, maybe Deebo and Aiyuk both stay. Keep in mind I say this not fully known how tight the cap situation is in San Fran. obviously a tighter cash crunch could force a move sooner rather than later. does anyone know where they are in terms of the cap?

well, from what I heard there were reasons for the lower production in his senior year. and sometimes non football things will bleed into production on the field too. I did my homework and am satisfied that if you are gonna take a WR in round 2 he was probably as close to the best you can do. I have no issues there.
-
I dont know if he was a generational talent, but he was considered by many to be the best OT in the draft. is that not enough?
-
depends on the hype. given how late its looking like he will be back I dont think they name him the starter heading into the season, so the hype might not be there. but given what we know he shouldnt be drafted in the first 5-6 rounds. I can say that with certainty. after that it depends on his health, hype and a bunch of other things

the speculaton is often out of control on these things. its also very likely Aiyuk goes. one of the two will depart shortly. and I think it will cost more to sign Aiyuk than it costs to keep deebo. Though I do like Aiyuk better, if you have to pay significantly more to sign Aiyuk than Deebo is making then the decision becomes a little more murky

I get it. Like I said, I was not upset about getting a franchise LT. Not upset at all. The draft turned out fine. but the Line was not on fire. I felt the WR position was on fire and there was a greater need here. I feel not enough was done to address this. one good rookie is a start. but I dont know that its enough. maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but to me thats enough to not give an A+. I still think they did well. and better than most at the draft table. not disappointed at all. my own thought is maybe they should have kept one of the good WR they let go for at least one more year if they were only gonna take one starting calibre WR.

no I hear he might miss the first game or two of the season. granted its likely still early to make such a determination. but hes at least close to being on track. I still wouldnt expect much from him if hes missing training camp as well. dude will not be in game shape even if hes cleared to play the week of the season opener.

I suppose. but why would a GM want a guy who is doing things like holding out while still under contract. I can see holding out once the contract is done but this sort of thing makes him look like hes not a team player to me. But then again Aiyuk has not fully gotten along with his coach so maybe there are additional motovations and hes actually hoping to be traded. so this sort of thing can be a means to an end. but I still dont like the tactic.

I am a big believer that you win and lose games on the line. it literally affects everything in your game. your QB is more efficient if there isnt a defender in his face on every play. Your RB has bigger holes to run through. and if your D line is dominating, the other team has no time to throw the ball, and no holes to run through. basically the line makes your skill players better. and if you have a QB that can run it makes it harder for a defender because if you beat your man, you still cant catch the QB. but a lot of GMs are thinking they can have a running qb and not worry about the line. 90% of the time, this is wrong. you still need an elite QB to be able to make moves and process and get rid of the ball quickly. and you dont need to be able to run to do it. (see manning and Brady who had a quick release and process the game super quickly)
-
yeah, thats sort of been his calling card. Not a bad thing. they got one of the finest young QB in the nfl. they should protect him so he doesnt get hurt
-
isnt he still under contract? 14 mil if memory serves.... so there is no reason to sign him early other than making Aiyuk happy haha. if he doesnt play, he will still have a year to go to reach free agency so there is no benefit to sitting. the guy will play. and if hes smart, he plays his best so he can get the absolute most he can in free agency
-
another thing to consider is they could have taken both Nabers and McConkey and traded back up to take an OT or taken a top guard in round 2. then grab that LT in the first round next year. Chargers line needed help but it wasnt on fire. so this was a legit option. (though maybe not as realistic, but they needed 2 WR not just one)
-
sometimes a first rounder expected to be the long term LT wont start there in his rookie year. I've often seen them play guard or RT in the rookie year (sometimes both) and then move to LT in year 2. I'm not overly concerned about this. in some respects it might be better if he starts in a different position for his first year. (less pressure) either way, thats their problem to fix. not ours haha so I guess we will see what they do here.
-
yeah, I think the value in Henry goes up in terms of TD. likely declines elsewhere. but TD's are where the fantasy points are.
-
yeah, that was kind of my thought as well. They did end up getting a WR I like so I'm not that upset but I still think they could have done better. Thats why I'm not giving an A or A+. That would imply a steller performance. I cant give that rating if I only felt it was good to above average.
-
with luck maybe they sign someone or possibly they have an undrafted priority signing they want to get in there. Granted these types usually wont start for you until a year or two down the road (maybe longer) so It would have been nice to get another one in there. Thing about guards is you dont usually need to burn a first round pick to fill that position. usually you can use a 2nd or 3rd rounder to get a player. either way, not my problem I guess but I understand where you are coming from
-
yeah, I hear you. I think if developing as many O linemen as that you may need to hire an extra assistant to make sure you give them enough one on one coaching so they develop properly the way they need to. Though that should be an area where teams should not be afraid to spend. it doesnt affect the cap. either way, obvioulsy someone felt they needed the depth elsewhere. but getting an OL in the first round I felt was the right move. Its not the kind of move that gets people excited, but its the kind of move where if he performs as he should, it will make everyone on the offense perform a little better.
-
well, I noted pretty much the same when they drafted an O lineman. it is an area of need, so I figured it was a decent move.
-
I dont know that I'd rank the Chargers draft that high. Maybe an A- or B + (I'd put them on the cusp) A+ is pushing it a bit in my opinion. the draft I felt was good, but not Stellar. in the end we wont know for a couple of years.
-
well, I guess it all depends on how things shake out. If Pearsall shows hes ready, then Deebo or Aiyuk get traded sooner. they may hold onto both players until they figure this out unless they absolutely NEED to clear cap space. Then the decision to move one of them becomes a whole lot more urgent.
-
the same could be said about a number of the pass catchers Cousins will be now throwing to. lots of potential there.
-
most talented guys who breakout late its because of the quality of the QB. I picked Nico in almost all of my leagues on the assumption Stroud was gonna be far better than the previous QB. I was well rewarded for that assumption. it also helped that he was showing signs of breaking out late the year prior.
-
I agree. he is in a far better offense. and a better team. but he is a year older. but the two will roughly offset each other. I think he does about what he did last year. maybe slightly better because the caliber of the team is that much higher than the one he departed from. I do think this is likely the last or second last year for Henry as a premium back but I do think hes draftable. just dont overpay. when RB's are at his age you do not overpay.

hey guys. The july mock was a pleasure to participate in. the drafters are a knowledgeable group and I think there is definitely valuable information here if you want to break down this draft. (link below to see results) https://www.fftoday.com/mock/23_july.html I'm not going to do a deep analysis in terms of who did the better job but I will break down the draft in terms of the strategies used by various mockers. you can then look at how the team turned out and see how you feel about each strategy. please no judgements on the selection of certain players. this is meant to be a discussion on the strategy itself and now you should have an idea of what kind of team you are looking like if you go with each strategy. The Strategies: I broke these down by two basic strategies: 1) based on who each Mocker took in their first 2 picks -Basic Strategies: WR-WR TE first round (also zero RB strategy) Mixed RB-RB 2) early QB taken (first 4 rounds) Lots of talk has been on this board surrounding the early drafting of a QB. so there is a breakdown here of who did this. As lots are looking to go WR-WR this year lets start here: Strategy 1: WR-WR- The general strategy in going WR-WR in a PPR draft is that you will dominate at the position that benefits from this scoring format. Teams that used this strategy: The Football Guru-WR-WR (Early QB) White Wonder-WR-WR-No early QB first 4 picks: Jamar Chase-WR Jaylan Waddle-WR Mark Andrews-TE Lamar Jackson-QB Even though he went WR-WR this is really more of a mixed approach due to the early selections of TE and QB. he looks like he will have an advantage at the WR position with above average players at TE and QB. if we go deeper he does select RB in round 5 and 6 (furthering the argument this is more of a mixed approach) White Wonder- Diggs -WR Garrett Wilson-WR Gibbs-RB Etienne-RB Like Guru, he Took top WR in the first 2 rounds followed by RB in the next 2 rounds. he took a QB in round 5 followed by another RB. so once again, while this is classified as a WR-WR strategy, it really resembles more of a mixed strategy than a pure early WR strategy. Strategy 2: TE first round-(early QB) also zero RB strategy ICEMAN: as an alternative strategy this is a good one to pay attention to. Iceman started TE and then went WR-WR in the next 2 picks followed by a QB in round 4 then 4 straight RB selections after that. theoretically you could also call this a zero RB strategy as well. this is useful to look at from that perspective as well. realistically this is more of a mixed strategy when looking at the whole body of work but I felt any strategy where TE is taken in the first round deserves its own category. for the record, I think he ended up with a decent team. I didnt think you could get good RB this late but he did a nice job. Kamara could be a nice steal and I do like Akers and Pacheco. both of these young RB have considerable upside. Between those 3 I dont know that he was really at a disadvantage running the zero RB strategy. That said, I think the talent at RB was shallow enough that if a second team tried to run the zero RB strategy it could have been a case where neither team would be able to get enough talent at the position late in the draft. first 4 picks Kelce(TE) Devante Adams (WR) Keenan Allen (WR) Justin Herbert (QB) Strategy 3: Mixed all teams in this category took an RB and a WR in the first 2 rounds (not necessarily in that order. Robb took an early QB the rest did not but basically the strategy used appears to be a balanced strategy. The advantage of this is later in the draft it makes it easier to take the best player available regardless of position. if you take RB in 3 of the first 4 rounds like I did, it becomes tough to justify taking another RB over the next few rounds even if that is the best player on the board. Mr Landry Kupp WR Stephenson RB Olave WR Miles Sanders RB Ralphster Chubb-RB Lamb-WR Mixon-RB Metcalf-WR Remote Controller Tyreek Hill Pollard Higgins Cooper Robb-(early QB) Bijan-RB AJ Brown-WR Hurts-QB Ridley-WR RB-RB Ray_T- (early QB) This is my own draft. as I have first hand knowledge of what I was thinking I'm going to give a more detailed commentary of what I did and why. you wont get this analysis on the other mockers as I dont know why they did what they did and I dont want to speak on their behalf. with luck I will get them to come on, make their own posts about what they were thinking, and what worked and what didnt. First 4 picks: Henry-RB Jacobs-RB Allen-QB Kenneth Walker-RB I initially wanted to start with a WR and then go with 2 or 3 straight RB picks, but the majority of the early round picks were actually WR so I felt the value I thought would be here at WR wasnt there, so felt the need to pivot to a different strategy. I went RB in round 1 and 2. I also had no plans to take a RB in round 4 but I felt Walker was the best player available at that point in the draft and given that my 2nd RB (Jacobs) could hold out, I figured this was a viable strategy as he could be a top notch flex If Jacobs played and an RB2 if he doesnt. The flex spot in this league made this strategy a lot more viable as the pick isnt wasted if Jacobs plays. So this offered me the chance to get an advantage at the flex spot as the top scoring RB at that point in the draft was projected to get more fantasy points than the top rated WR in the draft at the time. By going RB heavy to start the draft, this gave me an immediate advantage at RB and the flex spot. taking the first QB off the board in round 3 gave me an advantage at QB as well. To this end I feel good about the way this draft played out for me. after the first 4 picks, I took a whole lot of WR after this point in the draft. The good news is the draft is still flush with talent at WR at this point in the draft and I did some significant research on some of the players I took and feel I was able to get good value given how late I waited to take my first WR (Round 5) Hawkeye- He also went RB-RB but flipped to WR earlier in the draft than I did. while this was a RB-RB start, in the end its almost more of a balanced approach as 2 of the first 4 picks were WR and 2 were RB. first 4 picks: CMC-RB Breece Hall-RB Devonta Smith-WR Drake London-WR Shovelheadt-(early QB) also started with 2 RB and ended up with one of the better RB group in the draft. He also got a nice QB late in round 3. it is worth noting that Burrow was injured partway through this draft leading him to draft a second QB earlier than he otherwise would(and triggering a run on QB that may not have normally happened). So I would argue he dealt with the most turmoil of anyone in this draft due to this situation. first 4 picks: Jonathan Taylor-RB Sequon Barkley-RB Joe Burrow-QB DeAndre Swift-RB
