Trade: Bills moving WR Stefon Diggs to Texans
Ray_T replied to Mike FF Today's topic in FFToday Board
maybe. but usually I do like to buy guys who are playing for a contract. but I am questioning if Diggs actually is the #1 WR in this offense. he wont like it, but at the same time he has bought his freedom as they have voided 2 years of a contract where he feels hes being underpaid. personally, I think by voiding the contract Houston isnt on the hook for a ton of money for a guy who could possibly past his prime. sure the money looks good now, but in another year or two? questionable -
quite likely. though by the time the legalities all take place we are likely looking at a suspension for next season. only way it happens sooner is if he hits/kills people in the process of what happened. As that never happened, the league likely waits until the legalities are resolved before deciding on a suspension and/or fine.

I'd agree with that. but it may also be that they were the only team that wanted him. -
I think it depends. the one thing about a RB is they are not necessarily the position you build around in Dynasty. (not anymore anyhow) a good QB will last on your roster for 10 years. Possibly more. and yes, a RB career seems to have shortened. not many last too much beyond the rookie contract now. look how many are dumped once they start making money. so for me, (in dynasty at least) this is one of the final pieces to the puzzle. you either draft them as your team is getting competitive, or you trade for one when you are ready to win a championship. its a waste to have one on your roster if you are not competitive.

something tells me the Bills didnt think they could win with what they had. so the logical move is to move the malcontent. see if it could be a situation that is actually addition by subtraction. given how deep the draft is at WR I dont know if there will ever be a better time to do this than now. -
agreed. if he has that, he will (at the very least) be a serviceable backup. but definitely has starting potential
-
it is too bad. when he flashed, he really looked like he was about to explode onto the scene. but the guy could never string more than a couple good games together without getting hurt. its a shame. fully healthy he was electric
-
it is. but it may not be the most urgent need. there are starting positions elsewhere that I'd have to think are a larger priority than the backup RB position. not that its not important. I just dont think its #1 on the teams priority list

obviously he thinks hes gonna do better in free agency. its clear now he only cares about the money. This is why he was a malcontent. he saw what people have been signing for the last couple of years and hes stuck in the 20M range. he thinks hes gonna get 30+ in free agency. he is on the wrong side of 30 and is giving up some decent coin to become a free agent at the age 31. its a big gamble. Personally I wouldnt throw out that kind of cash to a guy who seems to be in decline and is on the wrong side of 30. This could very easily blow up in his face. part of me hopes it does haha -
they might. depends on what other needs they need to fill.

if Dell plays out of the slot, then Nico and diggs are playing wide. might work well. but I still see Diggs getting less targets than he thinks he deserves and having a hissy fit over it at some point. -
well, the odds are against him making a full recovery. Lets just leave it at that.
-
I think CEH actually ran the ball better than McKinnon did. historically CEH had 4 YPC while Mckinnon around 3.8 I think. CEH is a bit younger too. so if they can sign him at a reasonable price hes likely the preferred backup. and I'd argue most teams are in deep trouble if their starting RB goes down. there are not a lot of elite runners out there anymore.

if its not Diggs, hes gonna quickly be asking for another trade haha -
hes an adequate backup who can catch passes. you can throw him in on a passing down and give Pacheco a breather for a play or two. Hes not specacular, but if the salary is reasonable, I dont mind the signing. As for Dobbins, hes coming back from an Achilles after previously tearing the ACL (and I think PCL) a couple years earlier on the same leg. I question whether he'd be able to get off the PUP list until a few games into the year, and I honestly dont know that hed be productive this year if he did play. hes a guy you might sign for league minimum and keep rehabbing him in the hope hes useful for you come playoff time or for NEXT year. but I can seriously see a lot of teams taking a pass on him given the state of his health.

not a huge surprise. Diggs was a bit of a malcontent. better to move that guy out while he has value. Bills will trade for someone or sign/draft someone. -
yep. Thats pretty much where I'm at no point saying much more until some more facts come out.
-
no. but he likely thinks he is. at the end of the day if a team can pay the price of a backup on a 1 or 2 year prove it deal they might be inclined to sign him with the hope he shows some of that upside hes flashed on one of the few occasions hes been healthy.

well, most people who commit felony's have done some act of violence, robbery or something of the like. in this case he was driving like an idiot. linking the two for purpose of sentencing is a little tougher sell. at this point I never heard anything about guns being pointed at people, so even if he had a gun, proving that would be likely close to impossible, and even if you could prove it, how is it related to the original charge of dangerous driving (or whatever the local name for that charge would happen to be) that said, it is very possible that the details of this have not all come available and some of the details we have heard may or may not be accurate, so its all speculation at this point. However most people who flee the scene of an accident do so because of a couple reasons: 1) they are impaired, and dont want a DUI 2) they have some other unlawful activity they are hiding. in your case you say he had a gun. maybe he did, maybe he didnt. maybe he had drugs of some sort too. purely speculative. but the main thing is because he left the scene, it makes a person wonder if there was another reason why he fled the scene of the accident. personally my bet is that he had consumed some alcohol. maybe not excessive amounts, but enough to not pass a test.
-
it is also worth noting that he may never be the same after the injury. he had an ACL and LCL tear (grade 3) in the same leg ad the achilles injury. so there is a real possibility that he may never be 100% right after this. of course he will rehab and try to come back and start, but we need to be prepared for the possibility he might be a career backup or that his career may be finished.
-
well, for this type of injury, most times a player will pass a physical less than 12 months after the surgery. but it can take longer to get to a point where they need to be to be productive. There have been notable exceptions to this so its not a hard and fast rule. as of now, hes less than 12 months from injury (not sure how quick the surgery was after the injury) to that end, I'd be surprised if he was given anything other than a backup role to start. he can rehab further during the season and maybe be part of a committee once he is healthy enough to be productive. of course he will want to start, so there may be a period of time where he sits until he adjusts his expectations
-
how does the gun affect anything? unless he actually was using it or pointing it at people? Maybe in the eyes of the law that doesnt mattter.
-
hard to say. If he is smart, he quickly throws a lot of money at the problem to make it go away.
-
That wont happen. This sort of thing usually only happens when the infraction results in the death or injury of somebody. at the end of the day hes a kid who was thrown a whole lot of money and he got himself a fast car. I'd by lying if I said I'd never raced a car or did anything stupid that way. but I lived in a small town, so you could go out and do this sort of thing on a country road. cops usually let it go as long as thats the only place you did it. You start doing that sort of thing in town then the cops started looking for you.
