Trump administration drafting executive order to initiate Department of Education’s elimination
TBayXXXVII replied to Mike Honcho's topic in The Geek Club
LOL, @The Real timschochet showing his leftist elitist ignorance once again. He thinks WV can't afford SP/ED funding. The state of WV spends about $2.5M (that's right, the whole state, "Million"), on special ed funding. Of that, $1.5M of it comes from the state itself. Just a tick over $1M comes from the feds. @The Real timschochet doesn't think the state of WV can't manage to get an extra $1M from the 1.75M residentes in the state. -

This is a problem that can't be fixed. American's are too entitled/spoiled. It's the same as with healthcare. The solution is simple, no one wants to actually do it. The solution is to fail the kids. Kids failing is more of an indictment on the parents than the kids. If the kid fails, the parents need to be more involved. Schools are going to do that though. They may fail a class or some bs in high school which won't matter (example below), but in the earlier years, schools just pass the kids. In school, if you fail 2 classes in any year, you fail. In high school, that doesn't matter much because he two classes you may fail, may not matter. Meaning, if you're only required 2 or 3 years of a subject, you have the ability to make them up and still graduate with everyone else. Your "grade level" is paper work only. You don't have to actually repeat a grade like you would in elementary or middle school. -

I've been to a few BOE meetings and negations (all different towns), again, this may be a local issue, but everything was fear mongering bull crap. For example, in one instance the administrators union said that if we didn't increase the budget, there school district would have to cut programs and jobs (teacher jobs, of course... heaven forbid "administrator" jobs). Of the increase, 95% of the money was going to the administrators. It wasn't for the school. It wasn't for the kids, it was for a pay raise to do the same job that is still generating the same results. Now, if they were talking about a 3% increase, then I'd say, ok... it sucks, but yeah. But it wasn't. They were asking for 4 and 4.5% AND adding more staff. It's b.s. Now, that said, it depends on the school district. Some districts are big, with bigger schools, and a 50% cut may be too much, but there can still be cuts. The savings is money that is better spent inside the school itself, directly on the kids. When kids are engaged, they're more likely to put forth more effort. The more programs they had that peak their interest, the more likely they are to be more attentive and cooperative during the day. The net result is an easier day for the teachers and administrators. Sure, kids are still kids, but lets be honest... 100% of all teachers and administrators all had a working knowledge of what the job entailed before they took it. It's literally the only job that people have an idea of what they're in for, for 16 to 17 years, before taking the job. Nobody should be receiving anything for going to a private school. I know that doesn't happen in NJ, though that may happen in your state. If you don't want to go to your local public school, you can go to another public school (and on the hook for transportation... the school doesn't provide that). But, if you want to go to a private school, that's 100% on your dime, not the school district. If that happens in your area, then yeah, that's bull crap too. That shouldn't happen. -

I don't think he does either, but if there's a gauge on who cares more than the other.... Trump definitely cares more than the dopes he's run against in 2016, 2020, and 2024. -

You're debating with another Gutterboy or Rusty alias that will continually argue with you and tell you you're wrong because OMB and that's the only answer to them. -

The problem with the education system, is at the local level. Getting rid of the DOE is a good idea in the sense that it doesn't help or hurt, as an agency... it just wastes money. Every school (district), should understand the common sense of what should be taught in schools. Here's the actual problem. Misappropriation of funds. There are way too many local administrators. Towns all pay for their local school's and administrators. Every school district in this country (and this is common sense if you've paid attention to anything local), has twice as many (if not more), administrators, than they need. For example... my old high school HAD 1 principal and 1 vice principal for 750 kids. Today, that same high school has 600 kids, 2 principals and 4 vice principals. School administrators will fall all over themselves as to why those positions are needed. Teachers, in general conversation will even admit, they're not needed. Everyone else knows, they're not needed. Well, why are they there? Because local school boards, the local BOE, and national DOE give you long winded b.s. reasons why they're needed, so smaller local governments sign off on them... then just raise taxes to cover the cost. When they can't, they cut departments and activities at the kids expense, to give the administrators and teachers more money. Discussable solutions... Dump the waste of money going to the DOW. Leave that money in the tax payers paycheck. Why? The money can be re-appropriated locally. Cut all local administration positions in half. Why? There are too many now, and the same amount of work, if not less, is being done, at a higher cost than needed. At worst, lower paid secretary's could handle more work... sure, they can have raises as the money saved would be significant. It's a lot cheaper to give a secretary a $2/hr raise or higher a new one at $45k than pay an administrator 6 figures. Combine teacher's and administrator's union into one union total (this might be local... that I don't know). Ever talk to a teacher? Most of the time, their complaints are about the administrators. Ever talk to an administrator? Most of the time, their complaints are about the teachers. Force them to work together and come up with a common plan and goal and have one contract, one discussion... it saves time and money at the local level. The above will yield savings to the tax payers to which can be used to ensure that no programs for kids need to be cut and more programs could be added. Parents don't mind paying for education if the results yield value. If taxes go up, but programs get cut and scores go down and the net result is the people in charge make more money, that's a problem. Remove government ideologies and just teach. Religion nor social programs/ideologies belong in the classroom. -
NFL reportedly considering measuring first downs with electronics system next season

There are no chips in a tennis ball. They use cameras down the line and high above to generate X,Y coordinates of the balls location. It's the same for baseball. In both of those sports, there's always clear sight lines of the ball. That said, from a calculation standpoint, the shape of the ball is irrelevant because the ball is always 1 size. With that being the case, if there was a chip in the ball, the location of the ball can be calculated. To me, the issue would be the protection and placement of the chip/sensor. If you put it in the centers of the football, how do you get it to stay there? It won't float in the air. It would have to be anchored. If that's the case, will the anchoring affect the weight of the ball? If you put it inside the rubber padding, is the leather and rubber enough protection to keep it safe from damage? My guess is no, because I think they'd have done that already. I don't think it's really all that feasible in football, like other sports. -

Tennis is doing it with camera's, not sensors. In tennis, there are always clear sight lines along the lines. I believe that's what @Alias Detective is referring to. The NFL almost never has clear sight lines down the line. Not sure about soccer. -

I'm good right there.

Well, to be fair, that probably is true.
-
Then you're voting and supporting the wrong side.

So, Trump just saved the US $440M dollars. How much does that offset the $150 a month Americans are going to have to pay up because of the tariff's?
-
He can't do that... because if he did, then he'd have to practice what he preached. He'd just rather virtue signal and sound like the good guy when all he's doing is saying, "you should listen to me, but I don't have to do it". It's like all those liberal dopes on college campus' that say socialism is better than capitalism or that they support DEI because of white privilege. But then if you ask them to give up their scholarship or grant money to a non-white person, all of a sudden it's "Well, I shouldn't have to because...." or "Well, I earned my spot....". It should always be someone else that has to give up, not them. Then they sit there and condemn people who don't agree with them.
-
That's not hard to believe. Currently in the NFL, there's only 5 franchise QB's and they were drafted in 2017 (1), 2018 (2), & 2020 (2).

I do find that humorous. We all know that behind EVERY president there's someone or some group actually pulling the strings. People always look the other way (for some unknown reason). But now, when we actually know who to hold accountable, there's a problem? Liberals are very stupid people.
-
I thought Trump always lies. NOW, you believe him?
-
Come on dude, we know there's at least 81,284,666... right?
-
You're welcome.
-
I'd wall off California too. I'd have done that years ago.
-
I would just think that it would be funny to allow the liberals to get what they want. Illegals are free (in California), and then give California back to Mexico. Everyone wins. We don't have to spend any time and money deporting illegals, because they'll go willingly... it's what liberals want, right? Illegals to be free in the US. Problem solved. Then we address another issue the liberals have. They always gripe how the US stole land. Well, in this case, Mexico agrees. So, after the illegals go to California, we give California back to Mexico. Problem solved. No more illegals and no more stolen land. No one loses.
-
You know what would've been great... Trump sending ICE to 101 and arrest and deport all the undocumented. When the "sympathizers" attack ICE and get arrested, we'd see how fast the liberals change their tune on attacking federal agents and the rule of law.
-
So, how about this new Executive Order.... The US will allow every illegal immigrant to live in California, without fear of deportation. Then, Trump signs an agreement with Mexico, to give California back to them... and we wall off California.

A lot of people missed this fact. Well, I don't know if he was MORE left than right, but he was a lot closer to the middle than the "far right" that people push. He had a lot of both policies/practices based on today's metrics. -
