Belichick's first year in New England... 5-11. Second year, won Super Bowl. -
I made it to the playoffs in 3 of my 4 re-draft leagues. I won 1, lost 1, knocked out in the semi's in the other one. My QB's (in order were), Goff, Mayfield, Nix. I guess Mayfield. In the league I had Mayfield, he finished #4. This was my lineup.... RB: Irving RB: Taylor WR: JSN WR: Collins WR: Higgins TE: Jonnu Smith On the bench I had... Godwin, R. Rice, Mixon I went 8-6, had the 5-seed, lost in the championship (12-team league). The QB I drafted earlier, was CJ Stroud. Got Mayfield with my last pick (before K & DEF).

You're going all out to point out things that say he's the best in the game. The point is that I don't really refute the numbers, so I can't argue against it, I just think people are going overboard with what those numbers mean.
-
You're take on this reminds me of my cousin, when we had an NBA discussion. He said that LeBron was the best of all-time. I said, "I don't know about that, I'd put Jordan, Wilt, and Russell ahead of him" (implying that I think he's the 4th best of all-time). His response? "Oh yeah, so LeBron sucks?" I'm not saying the guy isn't great. I'm just saying that people are a bit over the top on their narrative. I think him being in Dallas is a big reason for that. I think him beating up on 2 really bad teams for 4 years helps.
-
Oh, I have no doubt he's not playing every snap, but I'm willing to bet the vast majority of those plays that he's not on the field are expected run plays and/or plays in game situations where his presence on the field isn't all that important... be that they're up or down, really big late in games.

LOL, I wasn't saying they were quitting. I was just having fun. Don't take it too literally. My point was that they were just doing what other teams were doing and not putting up an established quality pitcher up against Skenes.
-
How about, "I Noah Knigga @ Eastern Michigan"?
-
What, I was right? The Red Sox did what a lot of teams have been doing... they either bring up a prospect to make his debut, I believe this is the 4th time it's happened, to pitch opposite Skenes, or the push an established pitcher back. They know that when Skenes pitches, you're getting 2 runs max, but more likely 1 or 0. Teams don't want to use up a top pitcher to win a pitcher's dual against a lineup that is one of the 5 worst in baseball. I mean, I don't blame them. The Pirates are only 15-13 when Skenes pitches. They have just about a 50/50 shot. Why use a top tier pitcher when you won't have too?

Truth.

Our issue was that when Gaines called Olbermann gay, you said that meant she was homophobic. I said she was just trying to piss him off and trigger him because he would think the same.... because he's weak minded, just like you.

Go from failing to admit you're wrong when you call out others, to now straw man? Yiu need a break dude.

If I were that kid, I'd have sued EA after the release.

I don't have a problem with thinking Goff is a franchise QB, but people throw around the label of "Franchise QB" too easily. When they do, it devalues that label. To me, if the bar is low enough where Jared Goff is a franchise QB, then at least 25 teams can claim they have a franchise QB.
-
Sure, I'd expect a great player to do great against terrible teams... I'd also expect them to be great against great teams.
-
I think what teams do is double down on the idea of "Franchise QB's". They over draft them. Guys that have no business being drafted in the first round, are being taken in the top 10. The net result is that they're forced to produce Day 1. Most of those teams stink. Many have terrible organizations. These kids are doomed from the get-go. The smart thing to do is use those premium picks on guys with a higher success rate and draft a QB in the 3rd round (or so), or keep drafting QB's in the 5th or 6th round. If you have a great supporting cast (again, by using premium picks on higher success rate players), then an "ok" QB can at least keep you competitive until you find a good or great one. Almost every year, there's a competent starter available in free agency (or via reasonable trade). Now, when I say "JAG", I mean guys who aren't really better than anyone else... or, the average league QB. So in your example of Goff... I don't think he's any better or worse than Mayfield, Stroud, Lawrence, Tua, or Murray. So, with Detroit and Goff as your example. The reason Detroit is in position to have to pay Goff a boatload of cash, is because they choose not to address the position. Goff got there in March of 2021. The Lions had 5 drafts to take a QB that they could develop. How many did they take? 1. Hendon Hooker. My guess is that he was thought of as a high risk/high reward pick. They could've traded him after the 2022 season after a 9-8 season. There was a guy who threw 41 TD's last year who was a FA that year. Another guy who was a FA that year won 14 games last year. Here's a scenario for you. Sign Sam Darnold for $30M AAV and trade Goff to Cleveland for pick #5 (maybe more... why not? He's a can't miss starter, right?). Use that #5 pick on a defensive player to help their defense. In that, they save $20M to be spent elsewhere to improve their team. Did they make their team worse? I doubt it. At worst, it's a push. A push that saved you, anywhere from $40M to $70M. You don't like Darnold? They could've given up pick #70 for Geno Smith (who got traded for pick #92). Here's my thinking... if you don't have a QB who could garner a top 10 draft pick (at worst, straight up), there's no point in giving that guy $50M AAV or more.

LOL, Parsons missed 5 games in his career. Now that's a sample size!!
-
8 of 63 (12.6%), about the same as games against the Giants... one more than against the Eagles. Yes, they are likely to rack up stats against the worst teams in their division... that's my point. Racking up stats against the worst teams in your division isn't the mark of an elite player. Like I said in another post, half of his sacks came against 4 teams... 3 were in-division, 1 was the Panthers.

The last couple months, I've seen teams alter their rotation a bit to move a star pitcher off of a collision course to face Skenes. The Phillies did it when they started Abel, the Astros gave Hunter Brown an extra day off to throw McCullers on 3 days rest. The Phillies then gave Wheeler an extra days' rest and used him against Chicago the next day. After that, the Tigers chose to use Skubal in G1 of a double header, instead of G2 when Skenes pitched. After that, St. Louis gave Sonny Gray 5 days rest, to avoid Skenes and have him face Keller. Seattle pushed their whole rotation back a day to use George Kirby. The next time the Pirates played the Tigers (after the All-Star break), they pushed Mize off one more day to use Flaherty against Skenes. That's still a month away from now and there's more examples. So, why? I don't know, I guess most teams are scared. They'd rather use a lesser pitcher against a weak Pirates lineup and save their better pitchers for when they're more confident they'd score runs.

I think it's Rasheed Shaheed. But, yeah, I'm guessing.
-
Generally, I think like you on the future aspect as well. To me though, I'd like to think OP would have a better option in 2026 than James Cook.

Red Sox throwing up the white flag? Hoping that Tolle can do just enough against the crappy Pirates lineup long enough until Skenes gets pulled.
