What gems did you find from the FFToday board?

I formed my opinion that the Oakland RB situation was going to be a mess this season based on the posts of some people here...... I passed on Lamont Jordan in both of my big pay leagues. Thanks all!

    Controversial Bounceback Players of 2007

These aren't the numbers that were posted in the fantasy mags prior to the season. I'll see if I can dig one of them up tonight. Cpep's numbers were flat out sick without Randy Moss. He averaged more INT's than TD's and his YPC was dismal at best. The magazines could have it wrong, but I'll check after work tonight.

    Vikings to pursue Fitzgerald?

Won't happen. The cap hit would be sick. The Cardinals are close to being a competitive team, so trading Fitz would make no sense at all. More offseason (slow months) rumor mongoring by the bored writers.
  4. I agree totally with CJ, Jarrett, Ginn, and Bowe all going in round one. There is always at least one or two WR's that sneak into the first round that were totally unexpected. Javon Walker was called a "huge reach" by the Packers as he was projected as a late 2nd or high 3rd rounder by most drafniks. Ashlie Lelie was considered a reach as well. Sometimes the "reaches" work, sometimes they don't. Lelie, so far, has been more of a reach-around.
  5. I agree. Any coach that expects his wide receivers to "fight" for extra yardage is a begging for an injured WR. Harrison may curl up in the fetal position after catching the ball, but while he's curling up, the officials are moving the chains. The guy is money.

    Terrell Davis HOF worthy

Had it not been for O. Gary, Mike Anderson, and some other no-name running backs looking like T. Davis clones, he may have gotten in. When every guy you put behind the same line runs for 1,000 + yards, it's really hard to claim that running back is HOF worthy. Sponge worthy? That's up to Elaine. HOF worthy? No.

Calvin Johnson, Whose lap does he fall into?

Oakland needs a QB first and foremost. I think he'll go to Tampa. They need a deep threat and CJ can do it all. Team him with Joey G. and you have two legit threats to go all the way on every play. That in turn opens up the running lanes for Carnell..... Gruden will sit him on the bench and refuse to play him until he hits the mandatory age of 34.

    Stop yer bitchin' & complaining!

One league I've been in for nearly a decade is very similar. People complain non-stop and we'll even have some personal attacks against each other. The only thing off limits is the kids. The message board is filled with hate and even some ethnic slurs.... BUT, we've only lost one member in all that time and it's a 12 member league. The member we lost was stationed overseas and had no access to the internet. In my "young" league, it's the exact opposite. People complain all the time, but they also quit all the time and it has ruined the league. Someone doesn't like the rookie draft so they quit. Another person doesn't like how we only have $$$ for the league champion and they will quit..... It's never ending. It is also a 12 team league and we've had 11 owner changes in 3 years. Losers will complain about everything.

    Edge James

I agree that most running backs are not as important to their team as what most people would think. Edge obviously is a prime example. Edge lost his explosiveness after the last surgery. The Colts were smart to realize that with their offense, a RB with a short burst is a much better fit than a downhill power runner.
  10. Tough choice. I may be inclined to trade with the number two guy and take Steven Jackson if it's a PPR league.

    Monk vs Irvin

Those are some seriously misleading numbers. Monk played a lot longer and was never the overwhelming presence that Irvin was. Was Monk a good WR? Sure he was.... Was he a game breaker that you threw the ball to with the game on the line? That's a question open for debate. He was not as good as Irvin.

    people with Dunn/Norwood

There are also reports the Falcons are looking for a power back in this draft. If they are going to institute the spread offense, having a bruiser line up behind the QB is necessary. The way things are beginning to look/sound, I don't think this new offense is being built for Vick.......

Mcnabb to Lions for #2 pick?

How many teams would even be interested in McNabb? He is hurt nearly every year and he plays in a very QB friendly system behind the best offensive line in football. Put him with Cleveland and he wouldn't be shiot. Put him under center in Houston and he'd be on IR after the 8th sack in week one. The Herschel Walker "trade" wasn't a trade. It was a rape. Rarely does a team make such a boneheaded move.... The Saints did it several years ago, but as we all know, it didn't exactly pan out.

    Bears #1 Post Season Priority.

Some players like the franchise tag. Nate Clements has been franchised 2 years in a row and said he didn't mind it at all. He was making more $$ under the tag than he ever would per year as a free agent. I can see the tag pissing off some players, but Briggs does not strike me as the type of player that is going to try and ruin a team over a franchise tag. On a side note.... Is Briggs that great of a Linebacker without Urlacher in the middle and a great defensive line in front of him? I don't think so. He hasn't been as good since Tommie Harris went down and I highly doubt he would put up numbers close to what he has in Chicago if he goes to a team like Cleveland, Houston, or the Raiders.

    D. Carr or B. Quinn?

This is a very true statement. The Browns are putting together a good defense and are only a couple players short of having a defense that can compete with anyone. They still need a tackle, end, and a corner. Considering they cannot possibly fix that horrid offense in one season, why not stick with the defense? If they trade down, or depending on how the combine goes, take the top defender, they will have a very solid, young defense. They could pick up Carr for a 3rd rounder. I'm not sure I would do that, but considering the state of their team, I would do that before drafting a QB in round one. New England knows how to draft players that fit their system. They don't draft based only on need. They are a model team to imulate when drafting.

    If Peyton wins..........

With his stats, I think a Superbowl victory puts him in the top 3. Judging the greatest QB of all time is difficult. What would Brady do with the WR's that Manning has? What about Brett? If he had Wayne, Clark, Harrison, and a line like Peyton, would he be considered for the top QB? There are to many variables that go into picking just one great QB. There is no doubt that Peyton will go down as one of the greatest. One more comment..... Many times people overlook the leadership of a QB. Troy Aikman never gets mentioned in the top 5 or 10 QB's of all time. His teammates have all said he was the true leader of the team and would get in player's faces if they didn't run the correct route or dropped a pass. His numbers are pedestrian from a great QB perspective, but he does have 3 rings. Even though I am a Cowboys fan, I would not consider him in the top 5, but leadership qualities should be taken into consideration.
  17. Because the Raiders got him cheap and get a discount when taking him to Chuck E Cheese.

Ohio State's Troy Smith lobbying for Browns to draft him

I think a team will take a chance on Troy at the end of the second round. I'm not so sure what he would do in Cleveland though.... They have no offensive line, no running back, and 2 very mouthy pass catchers. Even if they draft Peterson in round one, he's no lock to do anything behind that porous line. If they take Joe Thomas in round one, they have no one to run the ball consistently..... This is a catch 22 for the Browns. Why not take Calvin? If you throw him in with Edwards and Joe J, their WR corps begins looking quite nice. They'd be screwed there too though.... A QB can't throw from his back..... It would suck to be a Browns fan.

    Dwayne Bowe

Very well said. There will be a couple colossal flops this year in the draft, but there will be just as many "sleepers" that turn out to be studs. Not the best year to have a need that you plan on addressing in the draft. It's a crapshoot.

Will the Texans make any progress in 2007?

I think the 49'ers have shown that you can rebuild a team without overpaying for players and without going for highly touted (overrated) talent. Granted, they have Smith and Davis, but the rest of their team is not exactly a who's who of top 10 picks. The Texans should wake up and take notice. They had an opportunity to pick up their greatest need last year, a starting LT. They passed and the rest is history. The team has not drafted well outside of the first round.

    "Mock" Draft

I was thinking that when the Cowboys step up to the Podium, they'll ignore the best running back on the board in Steven Jackson and trade down so they can pick up Julius Jones. Oh, that already happened! Good think old man Parcells is out of Dallas!
