It sounds like we are of mostly the same opinion. I don't believe our system is as screwed up (in convicting innocent people) as some people believe. The death penalty gets people all fired up but it is used so infrequently it is statistically irrelavent.

It is not logical to only look at one side of a equation.

I am sure it has happened and I am just as sure that innocent people have spent 60 or 70 years in prison. I am also sure many, many more guilty murders are set free than innocent people are convicted.

No I don't think it is rife with incompetence. Your position is so much better the system isn't perfect so let's not do anything about crime. It's funny how everybody is so concerned about the possibility of executing an innocent person but don't give a rat's ass about throwing an innocent person in jail to the rest of their lives.

If this number starts to approach 1/10th of 1 % of the number of guilty people that the same incompetence allows back on the streets I'll start to be concerned. As long as this continues to happen I will favor the death penalty.

I might be in favor of this if our jails hadn't been turned into luxury accomodations by the ACLU and various other organizations. Really, what is wrong with making convicted criminals do hard labor while they are in prison?

I think you're right but as part of the pussification of America people with crappy jobs were allowed to attach "engineer" to their job title. Sanitation Engineer, Custodial Engineer, Domestic Engineer, etc, etc……
