  1. European leaders have only recently woken up to the threat Hungary poses; the European Parliament voted on Tuesday to label Orbán’s government a “systemic threat to the rule of law.” But this is likely too little, too late: Orbán has consolidated his power, and the opposition is too weak and divided to pose a major threat in the foreseeable future. Now this sounds like far left Europe is concerned their communist way of governing could have the tide turning a bit to the right. Authoritarianism sure sounds like it's actually most countries in Europe EXCEPT Hungary. Good article Rustydoodoo.
  2. Hungary’s civil society looks free and vibrant on paper, but a patchwork of nonsensical regulations makes it nearly impossible for pro-democracy organizations to do their work. The economy seems to be growing, but a significant number of corporations are controlled by Orbán’s cronies. Now this sounds like the big corporations in the US who get favoritism from Democrat politicians and RINOs here in the good ole USofA.
  3. Elections there are free, in the sense that the vote counts aren’t nakedly rigged. But they are unfair: The government controls the airwaves and media companies to such a degree that the opposition can’t get a fair hearing. Orbán’s party, Fidesz, stands up bogus opposition parties during parliamentary elections as a means of dividing the anti-Fidesz vote. In April 2018, Fidesz won the national elections, cementing Orbán’s hold on power; international monitors concluded that the opposition never really had a fair chance. Sounds like the election advantage Dems get from the media in the U.S.

  5. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/chiefs-fans-endured-freezing-temperatures-202714224.html Some Kansas City Chiefs fans who braved the below-freezing temperatures to watch the Kansas City Chiefs against the Miami Dolphins during the 2023 NFL Playoffs on Jan. 13 – when it was -4 degrees Fahrenheit and wind chills measured at -20 at kickoff – could possibly need to have amputations after suffering frostbite. The Chiefs’ 26-7 playoff victory over the Dolphins was the fourth-coldest football game to be played in NFL history. It was so cold that Patrick Mahomes' helmet shattered upon impact. Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid, had his mustache freeze. By the end of the Chiefs-Dolphins playoff game, the temperature was measured at -9 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind chill of minue-28 degrees, according to the Peacock broadcast. Unfortunately, due to the extreme cold, dozens of fans suffered from frostbite and were transported to the hospital with hypothermia-related injuries, according to a Kansas City Fire Department spokesperson. According to Nexstar’s WDAF, Dr. Megan Garcia, the medical director of the Grossman Burn Center in Kansas City, 70% of the patients admitted due to frostbite during the extreme cold weather had been advised to undergo amputation. Dr. Garcia said that 30% of the patients who had suffered from frostbite are dealing with ongoing health problems.

One Has To GO (Childhood Fun)

Swimming pool is not needed; I grew up at a lake. Drive In Theatre did close when I was a kid, so I guess it's not needed either. Saw Airplane there before it closed. My grandma worked the concession stand at a skating rink so I played video games (Frogger, Centipede, Ms. Pac Man) and skee ball and drank and ate for free, so keep that, not into the skating itself but that's OK, others are. Amusement Park - Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun in KC are pretty fun, although I have no interest anymore to be around people in public.

  20. Why did you quote my post about Vermont Dems voting in the Republican primary with links having nothing to do with that?
  21. Where they let registered Democrats vote for her and keep their Democratic party designation, Bernie's state. That's just more proof she's more like Biden than Trump.
