Trump Corruption Thread - Qatar ‘gifts’ Trump a luxury jet
SaintsInDome2006 replied to squistion's topic in The Geek Club
Wow all of this and somehow Biden and every president before him managed to not stumble into a multi-million-dollar gold-gilded gift from a terror-supporting foreign state seeking to influence him. -

The comp here would be a 1. child of Trump's, 2. who took a position, 3. paying millions, 4. with a company located in a nation affected by US policy. This is all of Trump's children from the 1st marriage (and maybe the President himself), who all worked for Trump Org, except Ivanka and SIL Kushner, who worked in the administration while making money. -

LOL, whine? That would be the guy doing an hour plus of a Castro imitation in front of a captive live audience. -

Thank you, good day to you as well, sir. Certainly looking forward to the denouement of this drama. At this rate it will end with Trump subsidizing everyone's drugs, legal and illegal. -

I really get the sense that from health care to trade to executive power maga has really undertaken positions to the far, far left from the 1980s. It's weird stuff. Basically the accusation more and more is that power needs to be centralized and any ills can be resolved by Daddy State Trump. -

I think it’s a question of values. There’s the constitutional, security & foreign influence issues which are totally separate. To me it’s something that should disqualify someone for office by itself. So for instance if there were factual findings about a president molesting minors - something more than online claims, some web of corporate entities, a lawsuit or mere close association with a convicted pedophile (as disgusting as that would be) - then I think such a person would & should be removed from office. But it goes way beyond that subject. I’m sure you think of yourself as a conservative, that’s a basic tenet of conservatism. -

Character in office & in public officials’ lives at all times is important, even to the extent that some should be forced from office if it’s egregious enough. Do you agree with that? -

If anyone in the GOP believed this they would have impeached & driven Biden from office in 5 seconds. If anyone in the right wing blogosphere from Veritas to Rebel to Infowars believed this they would have published the diary. Now I do believe if *you thought that Trump had engaged in such behavior you’d insist he be driven from office. I’d like to think that. -

Why not. Qatar, China & Russia could dump bags of cash onto The Resolute desk on live national TV and it wouldn’t matter. -

IIRC after his career was ended, the president’s son was trying to sell paintings for as high as $50,000? -

No, the tolerance his followers have for his corruption is limitless. -
I do fully support Ukraine. It’s a different issue, but then again ti me it’s in support of America & our historic support of democracy for our defense & for the rights of individuals everywhere. Thanks for responding, I’m off to a crawfish boil but glad to discuss further later.

I’ll just ask you - are you in favor of suspending the Constitution? How about just getting rid of it? Sincere question.
-
Conservatives & liberals alike support the Constitution. If you’re against the Constitution - and a good deal of this administration is - you’re not a liberal or conservative, you’re not democratic or republican, you’re something else.

No need for all that, I deleted the post after I looked at Miller’s comment. But since you did comment. There’s nothing conservative about this.

Acting President Stephen Miller says the White House is considering suspending habeas corpus.

No, before, he was judge, before he was Dep AG, he was a trial attorney for the DOJ’s Public Integrity Section. He did trials as the actual trial attorney for 12 years. He prosecuted officials in both parties. -
LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs
SaintsInDome2006 replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
I'm not really asking anything of you, seriously. I just meant that those times of sacrifice you mention were always caused by factors outside the nation's control. Not this. This is one man making choices that fly in the face of economic principles which have been known for 80 years now. And I'll just add that the comp for all this 'sacrifice for the fatherland' talk as to unnecessary deprivation has its best comps in Soviet and Maoist-CCCP history. -

Name one time these sacrifices were caused by the conscious wrongheaded choice of our President. Except maybe Hoover ramrodding tariffs through and tightening money supply in the face of the Great Depression. -

I don't know where you got that. Holder was lead prosecutor on the Rostenkowski prosecution and other corruption cases. I'm sure you remember Rostenkowski was a powerful Democrat. Hodler was in the DOJ's public integrity division. That's the division that has just had its leadership resign after publishing a letter detailing they had received political pressure from the White House to drop charges against Mayor Adams. But Holder was someone who had been appointed by Reagan (!) and who had prosecuted people from his own party for corruption. -
