2021 And: Note the Biden administration did that. Again, if people are complaining about Donald's failings in his administration then maybe pick someone who can administer the administration better.
-
I think that the local health clinic does it and not actual agents is a fine distinction I can live with. Point is they're tested.
-
If that's all it takes, then I think even the farthest left lib-prog-leftist would take that. So would the immigrants.
-
It's a complete mystery why Melania Knauss sticks around.
-
Oh ok, Illegal aliens can stay if they just say the Pledge then. Good proposal.
-
Btw HT2's point wasn't about border encounter numbers, it was about his claiming that immigrants weren't tested for Covid. My point was that if he believed they weren't tested he should hold that to the chief executive running things then, The Donald.
-
I presented you a chart showing international traveling dipping in 2020 then rising in 2021. You presented a link showing no 2020 but border encounters rising in 2021. Exactly my point. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
-
Most of Covid happened under Trump. Maybe if you believe that happened then select a better candidate for chief executive next time.
-
And many liberals hated it. And yet you reject it still? OMG, Lankford & Senate Republicans totally outflanked Biden & called his bluff using election season to get what they wanted. Someone stop him!
-
If only there was a way to actually verify ICE/CPB procedures. There’s a whole section on testing of immigrants including Covid. https://www.ice.gov/doclib/coronavirus/eroCOVID19PostPandemicEmergencyGuidelinesProtocol_08022024.pdf

This thing where Maga Party believes that Jim flippin’ Lankford, who defended Trump from DOJ investigations & carried his policies constantly for 4 years, Republican from *Oklahoma, isn’t trying to inject actually effective border security policies & instead is carrying water for liberals, is fascinating. The bill incorporated key elements of Title 42 & one of them was the circuit breaker where when 5K per day for IIRC 3 days or 8500 in 1 day was met then entries were halted & auto-deportation was commenced. You bang the table for this stuff, someone hands it to you on a silver platter, & then because Trump coughs hundreds of miles away it’s spat out.
-
As I said the whole world stopped travelling, when the world started traveling again it was less effective.
-
Trump’s border orders worked because of the pandemic. The whole world stopped traveling. But also it triggered Title 42, which required CPB to shut down new entries & automatically deport, not release, when certain numbers hit. The 5K number in the Lankford-Biden bill did just that, so basically you’re arguing against a bill that enacted the very policy you’re lauding.
-
Biden issuing EOs to counter Trump’s executive orders countering Obama’s EOs, ad infinitum. Somewhere at the bottom of all those EOs is the actual original law. My point’s not odd at all when you realize Biden joined Lankford to create legislation that would end this constant rubber band of administrations doing just that. Btw Trump’s plans for mass deportations & sealing the border would take considerably more EOs & expansion of power, including emergency powers, than what we’ve previously seen.
-
It is, it’s specifically delegated to Congress in the Constitution. Instead of asking Congress to handle its responsibilities Trump is suggesting a raft of executive orders & centralization of power in the presidency.

It’s a (Reichstag) Fire Sale. -
The Lankford (R) border bill greatly increased resources to enforcing the INA. Yes I’m in favor of that.
-
I don’t have a problem with Remain, & IIRC it was baked into Lankford’s bill,?but again statistically nothing happened until the pandemic. As for your second point - yeah I agree, it’s almost offensive that a non-elected private citizen could wield that kind of power- but it’s a state fact by Republicans & Trump alike that they halted their own bill at Trump’s behest.
-
Fwiw the only policy Trump put in place was due to the pandemic. & the rest was people across the globe ceasing to travel nearly altogether. He didn’t change anything either. In fact the only way to really & legally change things is to legislate it - which maybe for the first time in maybe 8 years there was an actual bipartisan bill to do, until The Donald decided it would be popular & therefore bad for him personally.
-
I appreciate the more thoughtful response. I’ll point out first of all it was Republicans who ultimately refused Trump’s plan for the “wall”. Im not even against the wall in the sense it’s just a continuation of old policies that included fencing. But mass deportation? It’s pro-inflationary, incredibly expensive, wildly expands federal/centralized power, & would damage us in a myriad of unforeseen ways. That’s before we get to the civil/human rights issues.
-
Sure. Trump promised a reinforced border fence from coast to coast at zero cost, couldn’t get it passed, then he seized $10 billion to build something like 30 miles. So I’ll guess all in all we’re looking at something like $3 trillion.
-
How much, with the real costs, hidden taxes & inflation?
-
Pretty decent >75% chance in discussions with Maga the reply will be 1. vulgarity, 2. an insult, or 3. an emoji or gif. Or more than one of those.

No, that’s not the way it works. We’ll spend *lots more on border control because we’re being promised Pacific to Sabine lock down. Police resources will be used - so greater local costs, plus less local crime addressed. National guard on the border - costs to states. National guard to do extractions & detention camps - costs to states. Lawsuits upon lawsuits, everywhere & all the way to the USSC- federal, state & local costs. Disappeared cheap labor - increased costs to construction, ***insurance - these will most largely impact deep red states in the South - agriculture, restaurants, hotels, distribution, shipping. - This will all be passed to the consumer as a silent tax. Less spending by immigrants, their sales taxes & payroll taxes - decreased revenues across the board.
