One thing about Mamdani that might be getting missed but should be noted for Dems if it works - his campaign has been positive, bright, poppy, energetic, engaged. It’s good fundamental retail politics.

I love NYC. This whole idea that this electorate voted for Giuliani & Bloomberg for 5 (!) terms yet is also socialist is absurd. I think there will be some stay at homes, third party protest votes for Sliwa, & generally nudging back to Cuomo in the ballot box. I think Mamdani will win but not by the sort of wipeout you have here. Also I have no idea why Republicans can’t run serious candidates in NYC anymore. All that Wall Street, Soho & Central Park wealth & no one will stand up? Odd.

The Eagles today remind me of the Cowboys of the 70s. They’re miles ahead of everyone else in terms of acquiring talent. The Pats did this for a long while under Belichick but they were often awful at the talent evaluation part. Can only hit on Edelmans & Ninkoviches for so long.

Because it wasn’t negotiated… in a way that would gain enough votes in the Senate? -

Btw the House can still do business, they can pass other legislation & work with the Senate to pass a viable bill as well. I’d think they’d pass a bill thst would get through the Senate. -

Ok then craft a bill that will lift a filibuster, if that’s the problem. -

Then open the House for regular order & vote on it. The Speaker controls that. -

Just a random idea - negotiate a bill that will get the support of a majority of both houses. -
Just a reminder - we’ve been through this. US troops were protecting Syrian Christian’s & we withdrew them unilaterally. And Ukrainian churches & Cathedrals are regularly attacked & destroyed. Churches in Gaza have also been struck & razed, including some over a thousand years old.

AI hopefully you’re a democrat even if you’re not a Democrat. -
There’s no follow up. Trump is a real brew of emotional, psychological & sociopathic pathologies.

LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

I appreciate your responses but I do stand by my point. The article is very clear on the two issues. -

The thing with Mike Johnson doing the daily presser reminds me of Trump’s Covid pressers, which were a political disaster. Johnson is totally different of course - nebishy, wormy, whiny, unappealing - but that’s also a problem. That’s the face of this shutdown. -

I don’t think this is a bad point at all (insult aside). Yes Cuba is in Venezue & Russia has sent men & assets there & Iran has sent military hardware as well. -

You’re talking about the Blackwell chips, right? Or as the learned president says the “super-duper” chips, correct? To answer your question, yes, the Trump2 expansion of recent export controls on our best technology (this is a whole classification not a single product) has been paused. -

I asked you to explain your point further. No, to me it doesn’t make sense that the administration finally agreed to terminate access to a wide range of entities to the nation’s most advanced technology then changed course. And it also makes no sense that this dubious rope-a-dope strategy based on the assumption that China will stop researching & stealing our advanced technologies just because we give them access to it would be affected by the opportunity to continue doing it for another year. - All ears, it’s an interesting topic. -

So the discussion about tge on again / off again technology controls is at an end. I appreciate the response. -
I have to say, the number of people on this board since 1999 must be really, really small.

A pardon to someone he claims he doesn’t even know is worse than even the wildest theory they claimed about Biden.

What expert strategy was behind the administration’s decision to place additional export controls a few weeks ago? And if it’s beneficial to let access continue (on the dubious assumption they’ll just stop spending & stealing to compete) why would limiting the extension to a year matter?
