Israel Gaza thread- is the peace agreement still in effect?
SaintsInDome2006 replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
>>The war was triggered by Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, when some 1,200 people were killed and 251 kidnapped.<< >>Some were at the Nova music festival, where almost 400 people were killed and dozens kidnapped.<< >>On Monday, Hamas released 20 hostages into the custody of the Red Cross, …<< >>Also Monday, two hostages previously thought to be living were confirmed dead.<< It’s a lot. IMO this is a war crime & everyone responsible should be brought before a war crimes trial. But there will be no war crimes tribunal. -

Gaza City clashes between Hamas and clan members leave 27 dead

Right, and see Point 6 in which all Hamas members will be granted amnesty. And the deal itself is agreed to & negotiated by Hamas. The rightful legal government of Gaza is the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas. And in the back end of this there will be a 2 State Solution, that is Palestine will be recognized as a nation. This was the *whole goal of the terrorism on 10/7/23. -

If I understand you correctly that means we shouldn’t be doing a deal at all. -

It’s the same deal that’s been on the table since last year. It’s the Arabs’ deal. Go look at it - Israel bombed Qatar & Qatar (& Co.) paid Trump. It took a week after the Qatar attack. Netanyahu *apologized in front of Trump in person & that was all she wrote. 2017 Trump called Qatar “terrorists.” Try putting your conservative hat back on, it’s probably jammed in a closet somewhere. -

I read this and all I see is ‘Israel went to war for 2 years & didn’t destroy Hamas’ & ‘Trump just did a deal with terrorists Hamas & didn’t require their disbanding or disarmament as a precondition.’ -

In 2017 Trump designated the Qataris as terrorists, oddly now he doesn’t recall that. -

I would like to see that data, I agree. However libs/progs/DemSocs are realky clear about the living wage. I don’t agree on it but ideologically you’re barking up the wrong tree, and it’s an ideological issue not a data one. If you want anecdotal proof go to a farmers market & talk to the people in the stalls. -

Just one other thing. There’s a skill component to this. It’s not easy. This is also true of the China manufacturing jobs. People don’t just drop their keyboards or leave the unemployment rolls qualified to do this stuff. -

I agree. I think there’s a premise they either 1. Don’t have work permits or 2. They get paid less than minimum wage. I’ll add that my understanding frequently these people have taxes taken out out heir paycheck. It’s a complex subject. -

Do you remember the illegal alien who murdered that poor girl in Iowa? The plant he was working at was the facility of a major GOP donor. What’s more is he played fast & loose with the immigration check platform he used. I’m guessing that’s the case with a lot of the truly awful, horrific cases we read about with the alien criminals. But those are really exceptions. The factories & Big Ag farms where these people work are generally GOP donor owned. And please everyone with the harrumphing - do you have family & neighbors shopping at WalMart, Target, & big box groceries? They buy from people who employ these people. You mean what you say? Go shop organic with the hippy progressives who truck this stuff from a couple counties away. Go to the farmers markets & stock up and Buy American. Sure you’ll pay more but it will be fresh, American & extra-expensive. -

It’s just getting worse this way. Our cost of debt has skyrocketed and now we’re paying welfare (cough, subsidies) to our farmers to cover up the costs of this Great Leap Forward. -

I hear you - I do - but it’s not happening. Shockingly Americans aren’t dropping everything to go pick grapefruits & almonds. And btw it’s not that easy, there’s a lot of skill to it. - But here’s what is happening, countries that we used to sell to are just buying less or just not buying at all. We are the capitalists. Us. We built the system and we are completely screwing ourselves out of what we built. -

I think you’re assuming the people who own the big farms & factories are Democrats. They might be sometimes but usually they’re not. If you left it up to the Dems they’d be paying them a “living wage.” -

>> Five years ago, the door of a modest yellow house on a quiet stretch of avenue in Norfolk, Va., swung open to admit a young family looking for a peaceful life after years of turbulence in several cities. The family, Nakia Thompson and her children, have lived at the address ever since, according to two people familiar with the home, and until this week, the plan for a more placid existence had largely gone as expected. Several times a year, the people said, a great-aunt who had purchased the house in 2020 with Ms. Thompson in mind would come for an extended stay. This week, with the filing of court papers some 200 miles north, the plan came to an abrupt end. The great-aunt — Letitia James, the New York attorney general — was indicted by President Trump’s Justice Department. The yellow house, with its gabled roof and tidy lawn, was revealed to be at the heart of the case that Mr. Trump’s chosen prosecutor brought against Ms. James, one of the president’s most prominent adversaries. In the indictment, the prosecutor, Lindsey Halligan, accuses Ms. James of having misrepresented the purpose of the house when she purchased it in August 2020 for $137,000. The indictment says that while Ms. James indicated to her mortgage broker that she expected to use the house as a second home, she had instead used it as a “rental investment property, renting the property to a family.” But in June, Ms. Thompson testified to a grand jury in Norfolk that she had lived in the house for years and that she did not pay rent, a person familiar with her testimony said. She was not asked to testify again, and the grand jury that voted to indict Ms. James was not seated in Norfolk, but in Alexandria.<< NYT
