What does trafficking have to do with anything here? We’re talking defense of US national security interests. That’s NATO. Taking Ukraine puts Russia right on NATO’s doorstep. To say nothing of the broader implications. If we’re not even willing to fund Ukraine’s fight, where our own soldiers aren’t even involved and the actual risk to us is minimal, how in the hell can we be relied upon to show up and fight with American lives if a NATO ally is attacked? And why would we want to be put in that position vs funding a proxy war that requires no sacrifice of American lives? Then there are our other allies like Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. How are they going to feel secure in our coming to their defense, when we refuse to even fund a no-brainer proxy battle for NATO security? If you’re in South America or Africa, who are you looking to for safety then? Apparently it ain’t us. And Europe is funding it, btw. Even to a greater extent than us on a percentage of GDP basis. It just happens that we’re the richest country in the world (because we are the world leader), and so with that comes greater responsibility. The answer is not to shirk it and it’d be stupid to do so as we will NOT be the richest nation in the world if we simply cede our role as world leader to China, as MAGA apparently wants to do. If you want to deal with trafficking then do so. That’s what the UN etc is for. Frankly it sounds like a Putin talking point to me, but if it’s a real issue it’s separate and apart from this one. Believe me Russia is not going to turn Ukraine into a bastion of human rights

That’s where you are mostly wrong. There may not be good guys (it’s rarely that easy), but there are much worse guys and much bigger threats. And that’s Putin, Xi, and the Russia/China anti-western alliance

So you think it’s posturing and that it will get done. I don’t think it will. I believe they mean what they say. Posturing alone is bad enough, we should not be playing a game of chicken with US national security interests and destroying faith in our global leadership in the process. That is very dangerous. But like I said, I don’t think it even stops there. I’m not sure you fully comprehend the danger of what you’ve sided with
