Why wouldn’t elected representatives have perks and prestige? I mean, if you’re a US Senator, you’ve been entrusted by your fellow citizens to do a really important job for them, and represent hundreds of thousands or millions or even tens of millions of people in the highest legislative body in the land. Yeah, that’s gonna carry some weight. Not that I’m against term limits, mind you — I think that’s a good idea for Congress and the Supreme Court. But I don’t see anything inherently wrong with those being highly sought after and coveted offices

I’m not sure this is for you. Generally it’s more cultured and open-minded people that want to learn other languages. Part of the idea is to step into other peoples’ shoes and experience the world as they do, which is basically the last thing righties ever want.
