We would like it to come down to 3%, yes, but no you do not want negative I probably shouldn’t have jumped on you, but it does matter. Everyone is watching inflation closely and as well they should. But it seems like some people don’t understand that we don’t actually want prices to come down across the board. That would probably be bad. What we want is for prices to increase at a lower rate, and really it only needs to be a 0.5% reduction in the rate of inflation

I mean, I’d like rates to fall too so I can buy a new care without paying 7% interest. But fact is, that would mean the economy is not doing well. Because you cut rates to stimulate spending.

I see what you’re saying. Typically when we talk about inflation “falling,” we mean the rate of inflation has decreased, not that it’s actually gone negative. Because you don’t want it to go negative. Now -0.1% for one month isn’t gonna kill us but if that trend continued it would be deflation and we’d be in a very bad recession.
