Why is nothing being done to address public school attendance crash?
IGotWorms replied to IGotWorms's topic in The Geek Club
Yes I think it’s mostly a covid issue. I mean we’re not talking about just MAGAts holding their kids out of school. It really doesn’t even seem to be political at all. It’s that for a year or two school was basically closed and a lot of the poor folk just got used to not going and apparently have to be made or encouraged or cajoled or whatever to come on back -

Ok well I don’t get what your second paragraph has to do with anything. Kids should be going to school. You seem to agree with that. So if you’ve got issues with the curriculum or whatever that’s a different conversation -
I like him as a value pick. Everyone was super high on him before Tennessee signed pollard. But if spears is actually good then the pollard signing should not matter too much. Yes he will split time but that was always going to be the case, especially given spears’ size and injury history from college. Anyway he’s not finishing top ten but maybe he ends up a good fantasy RB2

IGotWorms replied to IGotWorms's topic in The Geek Club
I don’t see what that’s got to do with the subject of the thread. Unquestionably it is due to Covid and schools being closed or scaled back. Was that a good idea? Probably not. Worth remembering for the future. But the question is, what do we do now? -

More partisan nonsense from you. Yes, parents are the main problem. But that simply identifies the issue. You’ve proposed no solutions whatsoever. -

The second part of your question is entirely irrelevant, and therefore stupid, unless you’re suggesting we don’t require compulsory education anymore? I mean, I guess that’s one take. How do you think that plays out? -

Yep, because it’s compulsory education. -

Track down kids that aren’t coming to school. Pick em up and bring em to school. Threaten parents with consequences if they don’t get their kids to school. It’s just one idea. I’d probably prefer a public education campaign (social media ads, billboards etc) but could be coupled with more truancy officers or other ideas -
Montgomery, won’t he take more of a backseat to Gibbs this year? I am fading him for sure

I like Brooks, Jones, Stevenson, Swift, Connor and Ekeler. Brooks - sh1tty offense, yes, but talented RB1 w/ basically no competition in house. I’m taking that all day. Jones - still very good, no competition, yeah Vikes offense may suck too but he’ll get his Stevenson - was pretty good last year even though NE’s offense has been an absolute dumpster fire the last two seasons. Nowhere to go but up Swift - should be in a pretty good offense. Won’t have hurts stealing all the TDs this year. Does have competition at RB but he’s the only (at least onetime) blue chipper Connor - every year he over performs. His metrics were great last year Ekeler - this is a gamble that last season was due to a lingering injury and not him falling off a cliff. Worth a shot imo

Sydney Sweeney once again proves it impossible to be gay
IGotWorms replied to dain11279's topic in The Geek Club
She’s got a great rack but I don’t really get the Sydney Sweeney love. I mean, would (obviously), but she’s got them droopy eyes and sometimes looks kinda half-retarded -

Realistically, we all know that’s just killing public schools by a different name. We all know that. However, it does at least have the trappings of a serious policy proposal, so I’ll go further. I’m not sure how that would address the instant issue? It’s mostly poor folks that aren’t going. They’re not going to take the public school dollars to subsidize the private school they’re already paying for (which is who “school choice” benefits). Seems like this would only worsen the problem by drawing dollars out of those schools -

I gave a couple ideas in the OP. But I’m sure there are smarter people than me with better ideas. To me the real issue is no one is even trying. And laying this at the Democrats’ feet is rich. So far all I’ve seen from the right in here is “good, kids shouldn’t be going! “ and “murder the public schools altogether! “ So yeah, democrats take some blame as well but this is an issue everyone has failed to address. -
Good exercise and I’m looking forward to seeing other posters’ thoughts on this perennial question I’ve got a similar setup except it is a super flex league, so that changes things. For yours, were it me, I’d allocate a budget for two stud WRs that should form the core of your team. Typically you have to pay for the top WRs. Yes you can get lucky with a Nacua or crafty with a Collins, but by and large the WR1s and top end WR2s are going to be who we thought they were. So that’s $120 right there. But you’re going to want a good WR3 too, ideally a guy that could sneak into WR2 area. And a couple decent high upside bench guys. So I think you’re looking at $150 total. Wowza. RB, you’re mostly going zero RB strategy. Outside of the top 6 or 7 — who will cost a lot of $$ — it’s basically anyone’s guess who will finish near the top. So pick your favorite undervalued guys and sleepers and load up on those. I’d try to do it for $25. Do you think that’s untenable? If so you could shift some away from WR but that’s going to hurt your WR2-3 spots and might leave your bench a little bare. QB, seems like probably not so important if you only start one. Assuming it is not 6pt per passing TD or something. I’d shoot for guys like Prescott, Burrow, Murray or Purdy who won’t cost top dollar but should be sufficient as a fantasy QB1. Or maybe go with a potential high upside guy like Williams or cousins or Daniel’s and pair them with a top end (but still very cheap) QB2. You’re looking at maybe $10 for QB. You could even try to go cheaper but you don’t want to end up chasing after a viable QB1 all year. TE, I really don’t like after the top 8-10 this year. So I would budget for a good one and ideally I’d follow it up with a top flight TE2 (a Freiermuth or Musgrave, perhaps), in the event of injury. Would $15 get it done? This is a know-your-league area.

So the problem is they’re not going to school and the solution is make it so they can’t go to school ever again. Do you guys ever think anything out? -

So you sound like a lunatic and you’re saying it “needs to be scrapped” which, yes, appears to me to be advocating for no public schools. At least until your white christian nationalist theological system is built from the ground up. You are not a serious person. Right wingers generally do not seem to be serious people these days. Please prove me wrong. -

If this is the right wing response, doesn’t this mean we can’t trust you to govern anything? I mean, all you bring to the table is batsh1t extreme partisan nonsense. And what is your solution, btw? No public schools? Do you really think that’s a good idea? -

As I understand it has hit poor areas much harder. Basically the same areas that were already struggling except now a lot of kids just aren’t going at all. Yes I’m sure a lot are minorities, which is where you’re going with this since you’re a racist piece of sh1t, but also poor white students as well. Regardless, they deserve and should be getting a public education no matter their skin color or wealth. And it’ll be bad for us down the road as a society if all these people aren’t socialized and don’t have the means for getting even a basic job -

Yes but this one cannot be undone (which is true of the opioid crisis as well, but not some other major issues). You will have a generation of people where 1/3rd basically did not go to school -
I guess it’s a thing these kids do now. Must be from the Fast & Furious movies? I mean, yeah, drag racing has always been a thing but now they act like they don’t even give a fock if they crash at 180 mph

So you made $223k on the last house… how much would you have “made” renting? Ok so you dropped some money on maintenance. $223k is a whole lotta maintenance! But if you’re not sticking around then renting makes sense. And it’s certainly not as good as it used to be with the higher interest rates. I’m sure it still makes more sense to own in many situations but I get the sticker shock of an 8% mortgage
