Hunter Biden convicted on three federal gun charges
IGotWorms replied to cmh6476's topic in The Geek Club
If you had really been a cop, you’d know that was for felon in possession of a firearm, typically attendant to their being arrested on other offenses. Not for this sort of charge -
“Incremental” tax rates are pointless since you well know that nobody actually pays that highest rate, yet alone the mega wealthy who pay very reduced or no effective rate at all. So when you’re saying it’s not fair to tax estates because people already paid 38% federal income tax rates on it, that’s just false. Anyway, the point is those people are dead so why not tax it again, but if we’re going to get into actual numbers then at least use real ones.
-
I’m not mixing anything up. I was, and always have been, talking about what people actually pay. You are the one trying to confuse the issue, and as always, the Trumpers buy it. Bottom line, your math on what a person pays after income taxes and estate tax is completely misrepresented. You know full well that most super rich people do not pay anywhere near 38%, just like Trump. Romney paid 14%. Warren Buffet paid 0.1%. Sure there’s plenty of wiggle room between 0.1%, 4.1% and 14% but, bottom line, ain’t none of em paying anywhere near 38%.
-
Well Mark, you know it’s impossible to actually be fully taxed at the top bracket because all income leading up to that bracket is taxed at correspondingly lower rates. That’s 101 on income taxes. So right off the bat you’re full of sh1t. And yeah, most people who make more than several hundred thousand dollars are getting a vast majority of their income from capital gains, real estate etc and not hourly wages, obviously. It’s not like Donald Trump invented that tax racket You are completely full of it, bud

Seems like he definitely broke the law and you have to respect the verdict. I do think it’s unfortunate in a way, because if he wasn’t Biden’s son this probably never would’ve come to light. This will dissuade people from running for office because your kids come under the spotlight and might end up felons as a result. But the same could be said for Trump’s NY conviction as far as he never would’ve been tried for it if he hadn’t been president and wasn’t running again, irrespective of the fact that he did break the law. It’s a brave new world, as they say -
You did the math under the assumption that a person actually pays 38% of their income in federal taxes. If you’re really a CPA, you know that is absolutely false — so much so that it proves bad faith on your part
-
Whats that have to do anything? All wealthy people figure out how to get around taxes just like Trump. You think he’s the only one?
-
Hey @Alias Detective, can you do math?
-
Nope, as usual, you guys are fockin idiots, easily taken in by someone trying to sell you a line
-
Donald Trump’s effective tax rate is 4.1% at most, but I guess this Mark Davis fella pays almost 10x that https://www.bloomberg.com/news/storythreads/2022-12-22/how-much-did-donald-trump-pay-in-taxes-what-to-know-about-2015-2020-returns

They’re dead in an estate tax scenario. They ain’t “keeping” anything
-
Dude, you’re an absolute liar if you’re claiming your effective tax rate is/was anywhere near 38%. I had some respect for you as a straight shooter but it’s taken a bit of a hit in this thread

It ain’t sunsetting if the Rs are in power

Ahh bullsh1t. You’re talking about people that save maybe $2 million. Which can be done with a 401k if you start early enough, make decent money, and save at a decent rate. The estate tax exemption is currently $13.61 million. That’s for truly rich people. But at any rate, they’re all dead when an estate tax kicks in so I don’t see what the problem is. You save $2 million for a cush retirement and you should get that. Your spouse should as well. But after that, it ain’t noting earned by the beneficiary, so I’d much rather tax that then wages that actually earned.
-
I’m not envious of people that save, hell I do a decent job of that myself. And it’s so that I can hopefully live well in retirement, and my spouse as well. As for my kids, I’d like them to earn their own living. Sure it’d be great if I could give em a leg up on college and maybe a down payment on a starter home or something. But generational wealth where they don’t work and my grandkids never work and so on? Why is that necessary or even desirable? If you start from the premise that something has to be taxed, absolutely yeah you tax that sh-t much more than the guy who is actually earning his paycheck. If that means I’ve got “wealth envy” then so be it
-
Ok, $500k exemption

Hush up — the adults are speaking
-
It hasn’t been taxed as income to the beneficiary. I mean to use your analogy when I go spend some money at a store they shouldn’t be taxed for it because I already paid income taxes on it. And it’s taxed higher because the beneficiary didn’t even earn it. Would much rather tax that an actual income from wage slave jobs. But you guys want to protect inheritances because that’s good for the rich. The little guy — whom you purport to champion — isn’t passing on generational wealth
-
We can go with death tax if you want. I actually don’t mind as that term highlights the fact that the person who actually had the money is dead and doesn’t fockin need it anymore
-
No, it isn’t, and it wasn’t

You’re such an idiot. Medical bills are dischargeable in bankruptcy. That’s the whole reason many people end up having to file for bankruptcy — is to get rid of debt from medical bills Now if you want actual universal coverage, then that would basically eliminate medical bankruptcies. But you don’t.

I think it’s a great idea. Just need to raise taxes on the rich too and estate tax should be like 75% imo with no exemption. That should easily pay for this and much more
