Kindly go fock yourself. I said what I was worried about, which is the government injecting itself into speech outlets. You are happy with it, as long as it satisfies your politics. I think it's going fine now, and I present the election results as my Exhibit A.

I posted this in another thread a few days ago, thought I'd repost here as it seems relevant: Gen X pushed Trump over the top. What's special about us? We're the parents of most of the school-aged children. We don't want our young men being vilified for doing assertive masculine things, calling it "toxic masculinity." Young men are lost in our society; much has been written about it. (As a side note, this is why young men also voted for Trump. Dood took a bullet in the ear and pumped his fist in defiance. That's badass. That's masculine.) We don't want our teenage girls, confused by the flood of hormones and attention from the boys, to be told that maybe they are boys -- here, take some testosterone, which duh, makes you more assertive and confident. We don't want our elementary school kids to have to declare their pronouns or gender preference. We don't want them learning about gay sex acts or going to drag story hour. If they tell a teacher that they think they are the other sex, we demand to know. If you have kids, you understand this.

Wow, that's a lot to process! I agree with the general premise, but I'm concerned with increased government power over private companies, and the changes to 230.

Discussion of Concerns for Trump Presidency

This is a bit all over the place, but I'll try to respond. Abortion: I had asked for what would be different under a Trump admin vs. Harris. I take from this that your answer is that you are skeptical if Trump would veto a national abortion ban. I'm sorry, but I just don't see this happening. Trump has consistently said he has no interest in such a ban. SCOTUS has said that this is in the purview of the states, so would almost definitely kill such a law. And really, no states are calling for this. I'll add to the list a potential national ban at some date, say 15 weeks, that might restrict the rights of some states. You state that Democrats don't support late-term abortions, but that's categorically wrong. Arizona just passed a constitutional amendment allowing abortion to birth for reasons including "mental health." So, if a woman tells her therapist that she is super stressed about her upcoming baby and doesn't think she can handle it, that therapist can approve an abortion, regardless of time. I also don't understand why a rape or incest victim needs a late term abortion. Regardless, this is typical "legislating at the extremes." Pulling licenses of major broadcasting companies: I don't know much about this, so I'll add it for now. Misinformation: Not serious. The Left targets masculinity, whites, and Trump voters. I'd say that's a larger block. -
Believe me, I've made this same argument to MDC pretty much every time minimum wage comes up. I don't mind a minimum wage, and if you are going to have one, you should adjust it for cost of living. That being said, I also have argued that minimum wage should not enable you to buy a house and support a family of four. Minimum wage is primarily for students and starter jobs for young people. Maybe also retired people who just want to keep busy.

I agree with both things in the bolded. The feds already calculate a COLA for SSDI and probably other things. No reason it couldn't be used to bump the fed min wage. On the second part, we already have that system. The feds have a "bare" minimum, and local jurisdictions can pay more. I certainly don't want the feds deciding local variations in min wage.

Is Liberalism a Mental Illness? 🌈

We've created a generation of Veruca Salts, young women who have been spoiled by our society into thinking they actually know something. IMO it started with the 50+ genders, which I believe came largely from Tumblr. And when they don't get their way, they go apoplectic like Veruca. These videos are their way of virtue signaling, of showing their echo chamber comrades that they are in as much pain, nay more, than they are. -
Interesting question. My first instinct is "no" -- impeachment relates to conduct in his official capacity as POTUS, which he doesn't have until 1/20. And yet, there would need to be some way to remove him if he were to do something so egregious that it demanded his removal (e.g., murderous rampage, misgendering somebody). My guess is that we'd embark on uncharted legal waters.

Fair point, I apologize. Care to tell me why you think abortion, or maybe a more general "reproductive rights," is a reasonable concern, and how it might be different under Trump vs. Harris? -

Here is what I have so far: Reasonable concerns: - Tariffs -- If implemented as Trump has stated, would probably cause a mass disruption in our supply chain and prices. - Mass deportation -- Also a mass disruption, economic issues with losing workers, civil rights concerns. - Elon streamlining government -- Could introduce a huge number of (former) government employees into the workforce, many of which may not have (government) skills which easily translate to the civilian workplace. - RFK's influence on health agencies -- Same as above. - End of gender affirming care -- I'm not really sure how this would manifest, for adults anyway. I could see laws against medically transing kids, which I (and most rational people) would view as a good thing, but some like @squistionmight view that as a negative. - End of naturalized citizenship for Dreamers -- Highly unlikely as it is specifically enumerated in the Constitution. I might remove this one. - Environment and climate change efforts -- Trump has vowed to "drill baby drill" which, along with a general disinterest in pursuing green initiatives, makes it likely that we'll invest less in this area. - Abortion -- Waiting for Rusty / @Death to tell me why this is a reasonable concern for the POTUS election. - SCOTUS -- Trump could potentially set 2 or 3 more conservative justices on the bench, securing a conservative court for decades to come. -

I love your Tia Lupe example. AZ could declare itself an extradition state, and set up buses for folks who would prefer to go to Cali. Regarding abortion: My idea with this thread is to determine reasonable topics that TDS folks like yourself might fear. I don't find abortion to be one of those, as Trump has never supported a federal ban and has said he won't this time around. Before I add it to the list, convince me that abortion under Trump will be different than it would have been under Harris. -
I'm not gay, dummy. I'm just pointing out that you don't know scripture as well as you think. Amen thanks.

I dunno... NY took some mislabeling of 8 yr old payout checks to a pron star, tacked on a bogus election interference charge to turn them into felonies in the first way ever, and managed to lawfare the Republican candidate for POTUS. Simps brag about "34 felonies" like Trump is a serial killer. I'm confident that the feds can turn this person's behavior into a crime. -
Neckcar is here in Phoenix this weekend. The track isn't very far from the Cardinals' stadium, and I'd need to drive past it to get home. Thank gawd I don't have tix for tomorrow vs. the Jets, that freeway is going to be a sh1t show.

I'm OK with this assessment I guess. Rusty used to post hilarious stories about idiots calling the newsroom, writing checks for pizza, and the trials of hurricanes that his Buttmont, TX. Gutter I concede was always an ass, but he was also funny. He had some great aliases, including Mrs. Voltaire, which is one of my all-time favorites. Like Volty said, they are part of the fabric of this place. You can't write the history of FFT without them. -

I'm really surprised that Mike perma-banned the Rusty and Gutter handles. Before they got stage 4 TDS, they were two of the better posters on this bored for a long time. -

You may not like Ben Shapiro's politics, but he is a devout religious person with a high level of integrity. While they certainly report things with a conservative spin when possible, I highly doubt he would put his name behind a news agency that intentionally lied, certainly about something like this. No it doesn't. "FEMA aid workers skipped houses with Trump signs." -

jerryskids replied to jerryskids's topic in The Geek Club
No, but I'll expand on that later. I would think you'd need to be convicted, not just arrested. Also, one possible unintended consequence of this is that some jurisdictions will just flat out not arrest, and certainly not convict, illegal aliens. I think we already see this to some extent. It would get worse. Environment is a good one, I'll add that to the list. -
