  1. I didn't say that, dope. But it's good to know I have a rent free penthouse apartment in your head. And by "good" I mean informative, not positive, yip yip dog.

What words do you hate hearing?

The latest one from the NFL seems to be "on schedule." Like if the running game isn't working and the team is down 10 in the third, but they keep running, they are staying "on schedule." It's already annoying.
  3. Not complete, but working up from the bottom: Annoying intro, terrible voice. Music sounds like a Chuckie slasher film, singer sounds like marbles in his mouth as usual, lyrics are depressing AF. Not sure what I just listened to. The internet calls it "sludge metal." Sounds like somebody played Pantera at double speed. Most of it is instrumental, then they seemed to add lyrics from a random word generator. Anyway, I don't want to do this anymore, like I said, we all have different taste and I don't want to disparage yours.
  4. I was going to say when I picked it that I knew it could cause controversy. It is as hipster to hate Creed as it is to love Radiohead, another band I would never take. I only took it because Biff mentioned it in our 2000s discussion. If I were trying to win I'd have taken AIC Would. Sounds like you subscribe to the Herby "one song disqualifies you" camp. Half of Herby's list makes my ears bleed, but that's why we picked different lists.
  5. Since there is a decent chance I'll be eliminated, albeit questionably, I'll take this chance to describe my playlist. While I love the music of the decade, I think I'm a little older than most of the participants -- I graduated college in 1989. In the 1990s I was a year into my career, married my wife, and had 2 of my 3 kids. I joked with Biff in a PM that I would kick ass in a Disney Channel song draft of the 90s. As such, I wasn't listening to all of the really "alternative," obscure music at the time. I was by and large listening to what was out and being played on the radio. That's why my list is on the "chalkier" side of them. A few of these lists, I'll be honest, I don't know at least half the bands or songs. I tried listening to all of them; some I liked, some not at all. Anyway, my list... after getting songs from a few of my favorite bands (Pearl Jam, Rage, Tool), my list started taking a flavor. I was in a way trying to recreate the playlist I had on my first MP3 player (Sandisk) that I used at the gym. Some got sniped by others: Spoonman for sure. I also thought of it as a list of songs that I would want on a road trip playlist to keep me awake. Many of the songs I picked have a definitive beat that I could jam to. That's part of why I didn't pick any AIC, or the slower Soundgarden/Temple songs (others from them got picked ahead of me), or depressing Nirvana songs. Finally, I tried to stick with songs/bands that were IMO representative of "alternative" rock. When I look back on that decade, some of my most played CDs included Meat Loaf Bat Out of Hell 2, Blues Traveler Four, Hootie and the Blowfish Cracked Rear View... but none of them struck me as alternative. REM has already been discussed, and I probably should have picked Shiny Happy People in homage to my 80s college days. However it turns out, I had a great time doing it. Thanks @BiffTannenfor putting so much time and effort into commishing it.
  6. Traditionally, the 9th Circuit is far and away the most progressive, law-ignoring appeals court. Not surprisingly, they along with the Federal Court are the most overturned by SCOTUS. This predates the current SCOTUS makeup. My guess is that Trump lucked out to get two non-whackadoodle-progressives on this panel.
  7. I didn't know "rs" was a word.
  8. Well, there was that pesky little takeover of a section of Seattle for weeks/months. I'm guessing a molotov or two was thrown at federal resources in Portland daylight during the Summer of Love as well, but I don't recall for sure.
  9. But so many people attended "No Kings" protests, didn't they effect change?

Dealer hit on 17 last night, pulled a 3

Well, kinda. I'm not an expert, but it seems to me at if I've got a soft 17 and the dealer is showing 8 or higher, I'm guessing I'm losing the hand (he's got a 10 or A) so I'll take that chance. And if the new card is higher than a 4 I've got a second chance with my next card(s). That seems worth a shot. If the dealer is showing 2-6, I'm guessing they are going to bust, the closer to 6, the more likely. So I'm also taking a card, because why not? If I get an A-4, all the better, and as a bonus I maybe stopped him from getting it. If it goes over, say I'm at 13, I just stay and bet on him busting out. I'd have to think about if he is showing a 7, and maybe a 2, but again, I haven't analyzed all of these scenarios, I'm just riffing here.

No, a soft 17 is an ace and a six, so it can be either 17 or 7. There is no fear of busting on a hit. If the dealer hits and gets an A-4, he'll stop there. 5 or higher, he'll keep going until he gets to 17 or busts. According to the interwebs, this is a 0.2% advantage to the house.

Dealer hit on 17 last night, pulled a 3

Really? It's been a while, but I thought they did hit on soft 17s. Here is what Google says: It depends on the casino and table, but most Vegas blackjack tables now have the dealer hit on a soft 17, which is slightly worse for the player. Some high-limit rooms and downtown/off-Strip casinos still have tables where the dealer stands on soft 17, but the minimum bets are often much higher. The "stand on soft 17" (S17) rule gives players a slightly better edge.
  13. Mamdani reiterates to Fox News that he will exhaust all legal options to arrest Netanyahu. As a follow up, when asked if he thinks Hamas should put down their weapons and leave leadership in Gaza, he refuses to answer. Globalize the intifada!
  14. Well, yes you and everyone are encouraged to vote, and I appreciate your support of my list. Also, nice thorough review. Unfortunately, the vote is for the worst, not the best, so you've contributed to my list being eliminated.
  15. I've said for past protests (not the current batch) that obviously not everyone, or even most, are paid. There are probably enough paid protestors to control things -- start chants for instance. In this case, they likely helped to disperse the crowd. This is just my theory of course. I think it is more plausible than to think Times Square organically turned into a ghost town shortly after 1PM. Hell, I was just there a month ago, it's never not packed.
  16. Agreeing with what? "Generally" means a majority of the time. Let's say, however, that only 10% of people make that association. Is it still OK to use it?
  17. Again, wasting my time looking for a Tim gotcha. A "Timcha"? I said I would presume it is authentic unless I see evidence to the contrary. That's generally my position on things, since I try to be open minded. It must be easy, just swallowing the blue pill on everything categorically.
  18. Thanks, I think. Also, I never root for violence. But I was indeed pleasantly surprised by its absence. I think credit goes to the organizers who seemed to schedule them in the middle of the day and ensure they ended well before dark. And they did it for free, because it was all organic!
  19. Bump. Cmon, each of these should have at least 10 votes, since 10 of us did the draft! @BiffTannen, when are you stopping the voting? We might need to let these run for a day or two.

  21. Who is "just stupid," Moderate Tim. Are you saying 86 can't refer to killing, particularly in police or military circles?
  22. I explained why I was a little suspicious, but you chose to delete it in asking me to explain. Please don't do that, it's yet another waste of time from you.
  23. 86 certainly can mean to kill, although remove or cancel are more common usages. I'm not speaking of Comey's intentions, although its somewhat difficult to believe that he never heard of it, being the head of our national police force. Like I said, I don't know about the video. I'd accept it as authentic unless better evidence to the contrary emerges. I found it interesting though because Squissy earlier posted a picture from the Boston one which used a severe fish eye lens, the kind that realtors use to make your 100 sq ft living room look the size of a basketball court.
