Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)

Your analysis is faulty. I didn't use the end, I used the middle of the Ellis Island window. And I already showed that the population was double your number in 1920 -- that's mostly internal growth, given the numbers involved. I also don't believe your unsubstantiated number. We let in far fewer people from the west coast than the east, since we almost exclusively let in white Europeans. But I'm feeling gracious, I'll double my number: 1.2M total immigrants per year. That's half of what we currently let in legally, so no illegal immigrants. And since this started with your Ellis Island model, we'll use the rules back then, including: no welfare, no government assistance, no translator services. Succeed, leave, or die. Deal! -

No, you do it. I made my case. -

I was talking about illegal immigrants. As were you, until now. -
My mortgage loan was sold to some rando company

Same. My wife was borderline apologetic to the title agent as I read through all of the docs. Then I found a mistake in the calculation of title insurance (in the insurance company's favor, of course). Title insurance is a scam. It is the job of the Title company to make sure I have a clear title. If they fock up, I can sue them. This is Amurka, dambit! Instead, I'm compelled to buy insurance in case they didn't do their job well. -

The American dream now is to go to a big city and get on the welfare dime. -

For grins though I did some maths and googles. 1920 census population was 106M (chose it as roughly a midpoint of the Ellis Island window). 2022 population was 330M, call is 3X the 1920 population. That's 600K immigrants per year. We already let 4X that number in legally. So we cut that back to 600K and let no illegals in. Deal! -

That's an interesting point; the challenge is: our population is currently significantly larger than it would be if we hadn't let millions upon millions of illegal immigrants in over the years, and their dreamer kids, etc. It doesn't seem fair to include them in your justification to let more in. -
Who here still supports Jan 6 attack?

I imagine that, among other things, Pence didn't like Trump asking him to not certify the election. Also, guillotine$#@! Biggest threat to our democracy evah!$#! -

Deal! Ellis Island was in use for 62 years and processed 12M immigrants. That's roughly 200K per year. I'm glad we could reach agreement. -

Yep, terrible look for CBS. But that woman will get high fives at the next Leftie virtue signaling party for shutting off Vance's mic because she didn't have a leg to stand on. Ah, but it does matter. Now when you or somebody else says that certain aliens are here "legally," I'll wonder if they went through the official vetting, security, etc., or did Harris throw some pixie dust on them and call them legal. Might not matter to you since you want to destroy our country with open borders, but it matters to normal, rational people. Well, somebody wasn't watching. Walz looked like he had his eyes sewn open the entire time. The entire debate was a meme, I guess.

Not me, exactly. I've got several events which involve drinking planned for the month. I'm planning to do more of a "Damp October," like the concept of Damp January vs. Dry January. https://www.healthline.com/health-news/dry-january-too-dry-for-you-try-damp-january-instead#:~:text=Some people partake in Dry,of quitting alcohol cold turkey. My general plan is as follows: - No drinking at home during the week, other than special events (like, my anniversary celebration dinner on or near 10/9). I don't drink every night, but some nights, like during MNF tonight. - Less drinking on the weekend nights. Keep it to three drinks max. Weekend is Fri/Sat/Sun. Seems doable. Anyone with me? Or have other plans?

I'm looking for a new series for home gym/stretching. Netflix has been pimping Suits to me but I haven't bit. I started Dexter instead but I'm not initially engrossed. Maybe I'll switch over.

Sure, I remember it. Doesn't make your post less stupid. Be better Meph.

Wut? I'm a idiot? I got COVID? Can you translate this to English?

Oh, I think Trump is a scumbag, although I'm not clear what I'm exactly defending him on. I think Kamala is a scumbag as well. She just has better political lipstick on the pig, unburdened by what has been, so you don't see it. I can't believe I ever questioned your intelligence, this is spot on.

You have a Mephisto vibe. Tries to win arguments by calling people galactically stupid, moron, etc. Created this alias in 2005 and first post was 2023; that's a long time to wait to be a troll. I hope you are still with MMM and all is well.

That's a big ask. Here is a scorecard from the Brookings Institute, where higher grades seem associated with ease of mail-in balloting. https://www.brookings.edu/articles/voting-by-mail-in-a-pandemic-a-state-by-state-scorecard/
-
As I explained earlier today, "absentee" is not "mail-in." Absentee is a pull system, where voters request a ballot. States like CO which had "push" mail-in ballot distributions had scrubbed their voter lists to minimize fraud. States which did not have scrubbed lists for such push systems, yet sent out ballots anyway, are what I am calling "shotgunning." I realize that most people don't understand these nuances so I'm about done with this discussion.

Color me shameful, because I argue both. My general model is that if the Left comes up with a dehumanizing label, they are likely trying to hide something. Election denier$#@! Birther$#@! Obama's book publicity company said he was born in Kenya. God forbid people thought that might be true. Dummies.
-
I don't recall the specifics of the lawsuits either; rather, I recall thinking that challenges to ballot counts were stupid. Were I to speculate, I would say that mail-in ballots have long been found valid, and states have leeway as to how they handle it, and the absence of fraud minimization mechanisms are not a valid legal argument.

I'll start with this link: https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/mail-voting-what-has-changed-2020

Sure. States like AZ (mine) have had absentee voting for decades; I've done it for like 30 years. It's more of a pull vs. push system, where you explicitly sign up for it, and it is regularly confirmed. Such people are dedicated voters, and unlikely to participate in fraud. @Strikeinformed me today that CO has been doing a system for multiple elections where they send out ballots to all registered voters, but they also have had mechanisms in place to scrub their voter lists. The issue in 2020 was that states which had previously had no such systems in place, mailed out ballots to everyone who was registered. Prior to then, there wasn't much motivation to scrub their voter lists, since the odds of somebody coming in to vote as somebody else were pretty low. But all of a sudden, ballots were going out to anyone registered, many of whom had moved on. What happened to those ballots? Also keep in mind, in states like yours (CA), here is the requirement to register: Again, I'm not saying that there was cheating. I'm saying that there were no mechanisms in place to catch it. Hopefully in the time since then, states have cleaned up their voter rolls.
