But even if I had, this seems like the most normal thing that happens in politics. Also, I would need to see how such exceptions changed during the Biden administration. A while back I heard a wonderful interview with Javier Milei, the (libertarian) president of Argentina. He has done things like remove rent control, which while it causes initial higher prices, has led to a much more vibrant and affordable (e.g., competitive) rental market. When confronted about removing welfare/entitlements and the impact on the poor single mothers, he responded that there is a false dichotomy that presumed that their system could take everyone out of poverty. It couldn't, and it was destroying their economy to try to do so. While it is noble for individuals, and charitable groups, to help out people in need, the vector we were on -- let in anyone who wanted to come in and glom onto the system, as long as they knew the magic "asylum" words -- was unsustainable for our economy.

It's more what I said -- every abuser regardless of orientation, some of whom may be trans, most (most likely) aren't really trans but using this opportunity to do bad things, because there are a lot more of those types. Had he said "every other pervert", I would agree he's lumping all trans into "pervert." That all being said, I understand the spirit of your post. As I said earlier, people on "my side" tend to say a boy is a boy and a girl is a girl, or that trans doesn't exist, and IMO whether or not they are true, they immediately shut down meaningful dialog.

Tariffs can come and go with the swipe of a pen. If there is anything Trump likes more than tariffs, it's winning. Also himself. I don't think his end game is large permanent tariffs, but he may implement some if he thinks it makes sense as part of an overall brinkmanship play. If they don't work like he had hoped, he can easily undo them. It's not like threatening to drop a nuke, after all.
