Most insufferable poster at FFT Geek Club in 2023. The Poll
jerryskids replied to edjr's topic in The Geek Club
He's come so far, so fast... he wasn't even in the pole last year, and now he is a stone cold lock to win it. :tearsofpride: -
I appreciate the response; I'll try to read through it today and respond if needed.

Good (but long) opinion piece from the Free Press which talks about the "Normies" vs. the "Elites," so this should be up @jonmx's wheelhouse. I almost called the thread "Why people like Trump," as that is captured herein. I realize that most Lefties either won't believe what's in here, continuing to think people are dumb and don't get it, which... is consistent with the essay. https://www.thefp.com/p/martin-gurri-revenge-of-populist-normies?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email tl;dr -- Normal people are increasingly sick of the elites

Bill Maher: American Kids are Way Too Confident
jerryskids replied to jerryskids's topic in The Geek Club
Jerry: What exactly have you contributed here other than drive by Tumblr summaries? Sean: I've started plenty of threads! Jerry: [Data] Sean: [Oopsy. Guess I was wrong. Quick, deflect!] I'd be interested to hear why you think you've started plenty of threads when it's been 15+ months. How does one make that mistake? Did you come || close to posting a bunch of threads, only to back button them at the last minute? And don't have time? You are a teacher -- you get paid to do nothing for three months every year. Take the L and move on. -
I may or may not have just got invited to the white house for the Chiefs visit

We're already on lists for being the source of the rumor that Amy Mickelson was banging Michael Jordan. -

This is super cool; if you can make it happen and still go to your Grandma's funeral, count me in with the bucket list people who say who cares, it's just money, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. So why were you invited? Rabid season ticket holder? Minor political-adjacent person? Other? -
Lefties and Righties can find common ground on this.

I think Bill Walton was a Buddhist. If so, maybe he'll be re-incarnated as a grizzly bear and eat Weepaws for crapping all over his memorial thread here.

Bill Maher: American Kids are Way Too Confident

Well, at least you didn't tell me I posted this because I hate young peoplez$#@! Baby steps. Also, it's easy enough to see topics posted. Your last one here was February of 2023, 15+ months ago. And I didn't comment in it. Before that it was November 2022. Quite the prolific thread starter, you are. Have you given thought to what your 2024 thread will be? -
Much thanks to all who gave their lives so that we could argue on a low-rent FF message bored. I was going to bump an old thread as the following should be posted every Memorial Day, but I'll just do it here. In Flanders Fields BY JOHN MCCRAE In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

Heard that this morning, sad. We got to see a lot of Walton with Dave Pasch for Pac-12 basketball (Pasch is one of my favorite play by play guys, does the Cards football and a bunch of other stuff). RIP Bill.

It's like pub food. First order I'll get maybe a personal pizza, and we share some popcorn. And a drink. Second order, another drink.
-
Our place has menues at the seats, with underlights on the tables to see it. You write your order on a piece of paper and stick it in a slot. If and when a waiter sees it, they come grab it. The stuff comes out pretty quickly, it's the waiter seeing it part that can take a while.
-
Part of it is the volume, or lack thereof. The theaters aren't huge, the big comfy seats take up room, and they're never that full. And I saw Oppenheimer opening weekend. Plus they have a manual ordering process which is inefficient; they need electronic ordering like Red Robin has these days. It would pay off quickly in sales of that high margin beer.
-
Also, we have a fun dinner and a movie place near us. Reclining leather seats, full bar and menu, reasonably priced. I don't know how it stays in business, honestly.

About to head to this. Woman from our gym, in her 40s, a doctor. She had body issues: big fakies, lots of work done on her face. We saw her the day before she killed herself at the gym, stretching on the side of class. The following day, Mother's Day, she killed herself. She had a husband and an 11 year old son. That poor kid is going to need therapy every year around Mother's Day. You must be in a really bad mental place to do something so inconsiderate of the impact on those you love. We don't know her husband that well (nor did we know her that well), but we have a close-knit gym, and we subscribe to the "always go to the funeral" philosophy.

You are calling Jesus a liar: Matthew 7:21-22. Not everyone who says to Me, Lord,Lord, Shall enter the kingdom of Heaven, But He who does the will of My Father in Heaven Amen Thanks
-
Thanks for a history lesson I didn't need. The answer is that Jesus would have attended the funeral. Let he among you who has no sin, cast the first stone. What about my main point, which is that works, not merely accepting Jesus Christ as your lord and savior, are required for salvation?

That's crazy! We occasionally get some summer hail, I presume Houston does as well. But barely a ground cover, nothing like this.

Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)
jerryskids replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Pure libertarianism is the opposite pole of pure communism, and they share the same fatal flaw: they only work if everyone follows the rules, but people suck and they don't follow the rules. The optimal solution is somewhere on the spectrum between the two; we spend our time debating where that point is. -
You would do well to remember this. Yet more evidence that it is works, and not merely "accepting Jesus Christ as your lord and savior," which leads to Heaven. Would Jesus skip the funeral of a suicide?

Funeral for a person who committed suicide

You said you understand it, then typed a lot of words that showed you didn't. Particularly the "disparaging words," which I stand by my assertion that you drunk-scanned the thread, saw some disparaging words, and attributed them to me. When I asked about you said I thought she was a "horrible biotch" I believe. Then when I responded that I said no such thing, you responded with something like "we all know your judgments." So you'll excuse me if I didn't think you were being complimentary. -

I have never done that to you or anyone else, and I have voiced my objection in the past when people have done that to you. And before you say it, not every time, but I've done it. -

So, having discussions on a lightly-trafficked FF board is disrespectful to the victim and family? -

Thanks. I try very hard to not accuse people who commit suicide as being selfish, as I don't think of them as being able to make a rational decision. That's why I said "inconsiderate" in the OP, which in hindsight wasn't the best word, but I was looking for a better word than selfish, and I meant it in the denotative sense of "not considering, or not capable of considering." It's a terrible sickness, one that would cause you to think death is better than living. But Worms drunk read the thread and accused me of calling her a "raging biotch" or similar, Gutter decided to troll, BeachBlade spewed out some words, and here we are.
