The Stranger was my first Joel album (I was 10) and will always be the pinnacle to which I compare his other work. 52nd Street was also great, more of a jazz vibe. Glass Houses, I was seeing cracks in the armor. After that, eh. One of the things I liked about the documentary was how he talked about not just putting out the same type of music, that an artist needs to experiment and grow or die. I can respect that. For his earlier stuff, when I was younger most of what I heard was from Songs In The Attic, which in a way is my favorite album of his, although it's obviously a compilation. I particularly like the live versions on there. I've since heard the other earlier stuff, but I really don't know what songs were on what albums.

The first thing I said in the post you quoted was "I can't speak to the amount," so I'm not sure why you typed that screed in the third paragraph. SCOTUS did not say Trump or any president was "immune to the law," but a lot of seemingly smart posters here have drunk that koolaid. AI summary:

Google says that over 100 spacecraft have orbited the moon, from a variety of countries. China landed on the far side in 2019 and again in 2024 where they collected samples, but those were unmanned ships. I don't think it's very likely that there is anything on the far side.

Which posters have been banned at FFtoday for any length of time
jerryskids replied to TimmySmith's topic in The Geek Club
Nevah. I'm a lover, not a fighter. -
Why the far side? We know little to nothing about it, and communication would be difficult if not impossible. Also, there are high points at the poles that have eternal sunlight. Solar is a likely power source for such a base, although by the time we're actually ready, we might have small, transportable nuclear power sources (that can survive liftoff. )

Thanks, I've heard of this channel. Just added it to my follow list.

I don't mind the autopen, I mind that it wasn't Biden using it. SCOTUS "that he paid off." Bless your heart! Here is a fabulous look at the biases of the justices over time: https://www.axios.com/2019/06/01/supreme-court-justices-ideology You'll note two key things: 1. Each of the 3 liberal justices is more biased than 4 of the conservative justices. Sotomayor is a joke. 2. The trend for both liberal and conservative justices is moving more liberal, with the exception of Alito. If you think our Supreme Court is bought off by Trump, I guess that explains why you would waste part of your Saturday at a "no kings!@$#" protest. ETA: My mistake on #1, I've corrected it.

Freakonomics did a pod a while back about roundabouts, focusing on some city in Indiana (I think) that has embraced them. From a safety perspective, they cause significantly more accidents but almost no serious ones, whereas lights have fewer accidents but the occasional serious/fatal T-bone at 50 MPH. They are also significantly more expensive than lights. In my old neighborhood the people wanted a speed bump on a road, but the road was considered a through street and there was some ordinance against speed bumps slowing down emergency vehicles (this wasn't a major through street, one lane each way). The solution to end-around the speed bump problem: a roundabout! It looks nice and all, but it cost $250K to build and, well, still slows down emergency vehicles I would think. On the plus side, there is one by me where 4 streets meet at odd places and they put in a roundabout. It works fantastic. I think maybe most of the people who drive it are familiar with it and know how to navigate it, though. Finally, regarding European Vacation, I drove in Scotland last year on my trip to The Open. Part of that driving involved navigating roundabouts in dense traffic heading in and out of the tourney. Driving in the wrong direction from the wrong side of the car on structures I'm not that familiar with was more than a little intimidating. I may have pulled a Clark once or twice and taken a second loop.

RHR posted a summary of tariff acts which showed that the POTUS can impose tariffs for multiple scenarios including "unfair trade practices." I presume that is at least part of what Trump is claiming as a legal defense. The courts will decide if it is valid. Hopefully I've been clear that I'm not a fan of tariffs unless, as you said, they are part of some "art of the deal" play, or are strategically punitive against China (although the devil is in the details). On the last part, I was alluding to whoever in the Biden administration wielded the autopen while you supported a mentally incapacitated president.

Fetterman in a hoodie - Admits dems are why the gubment is shut (D)own
jerryskids replied to edjr's topic in The Geek Club
Ignorance is bliss. It's the R's fault the D's voted down the bill! Yeah, I know what you mean: Also, at the time of the election, he was mentally deficient. His recovery was in question but the party of smartz peeple ran him anyway and voted for him. His recovery doesn't change those facts. -
Billy Joel "And So It Goes" was phenomenal. He is one of my favorite artists, and I learned a ton about him, his personal life and his music. On HBO Max

I think Congress should control our tariff policy. That being said, Congress has been increasingly delegating authority to the Executive branch for the past 100 years. This includes both the president and his appointed agencies. You just hate it now because you have TDS. I'd say that perhaps some good to come out of the Trump presidency is for Congress to grow some balls and start doing its job. But once a D gets back in office, you'll be happy as a clam letting some unknown person autopen the hell out of executive orders.

I can't speak to the amount, but legally he should get reimbursed for the lawfare idiocy. @dogcows, you should be pissed at your Dem comrades who did the lawfare, not Trump. Also, who cooks a steak to put it on a salad? I've put leftover steak on a salad, but never right when we cook it.

We agree to disagree. But if the collective site thinks that the following is better than anything on my list, I certainly deserve to lose. If this were on my gym playlist, I'd intentionally drop the bench bar on my neck to end the pain. -

His profile says that, but it also shows him posting this year, the most recently on 8/25. I remembered him posting recently, which is why I checked. -

Last night. With the Mariners/Blue Jays game in the background... ... but the sound was muted. What can I say, I'm a romantic at heart. -
Who are the Geeks rooting for in the 2025 WS ?
jerryskids replied to MikeMatt's topic in The Geek Club
Mostly this, but I'm slightly pulling for the Blue Jays. On the plus side of LA: Their Amurkun, I tend to root for west vs. least coast, and I tend to root for my team's division. I also like seeing greatness, and I missed Ohtani's 10 SO, 3 HR performance, so I wouldn't mind him doing similar again. On the minus side of LA: Their fans are insufferable dooshes who think it is an accomplishment to build a murderer's row lineup with an infinite budget and win games. This outweighs all the pluses. Two years ago when the DBacks swept the Dodgers on their way to the WS was probably my second favorite time for them, after winning the 2001 WS. -
One day in college in Boston, I was driving over the Mass Ave Bridge and a bike was in the road. He probably was legally supposed to be there vs. the sidewalk, but most bikes rode the sidewalk because the lanes were wicked narrow. Anyway, my good friend in the passenger seat was from South Boston (think Good Will Hunting but an actual Irishman vs. whatever Damon is). He got pissed that the bike was in the way, so before I realized what he was doing, he rolled down the window, slid off his canvas converse sneaker, and threw it at the guy, hitting him square in the back. Thankfully the guy tumbled right, onto the sidewalk. When we got off the bridge I turned to him and said, "I can't believe you wasted a perfectly good shoe doing that!"

9th Circuit court rules on Trump's National Guard deployment in Portland
jerryskids replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
We weren't discussing "typical," Honcho and I were discussing the law behind it. Your rationale is an example of why I said "of course they will," and why the 9th Circuit is the most overturned of the nine. -

I hadn't heard that an insurrection was required. I thought the legal bar was the requirement on forces above and beyond what is normally available. -
