Lithium Mining & Disposal vs Gasoline
jerryskids replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
Also... Her boss said it costs $6 to charge at home, and she would need two charges per week, so $24 for two weeks. My wife puts maybe $50 for two weeks. So compared with charging at home, it is $50/month cheaper, or $600/year. But obviously, instead of the convenience of charging at home, she chooses to deal with the hassle at the company charger. I think this is also part of the cult; virtue signaling about your EV. Anyway, best case, if she never charges at home, she pays $1200/year less than my wife does for gas. Problem is... she had a perfectly good car, relatively new, that she traded in or sold to get the Volt. She'll never recoup that initial outlay on $1200/year savings. My wife's Explorer is a 2017, fairly low mileage, runs great, tons of options they threw into the Limiteds that year (massaging seats, heated/cooled seats, heated steering, good sized touch console, etc.). She typically keeps a car until it starts to fall apart, so we should get at least 5 more years out of it. Boss claims that her main motivation is cutting down on commute traffic, and I get that. Traffic on the freeway by that office kinda sucks, and as a person of convenience, I would pay good money to shorten the commute. But that seems contradictory to paying a paltry sum to charge at home and not waste a bunch of time at work moving your car around and jockeying for charging position. -
I disagree. The 90s brought in grunge and hip hop to the mainstream. The aughts and beyond have been more blah IMO, differentiated more by the changes in distribution models than unique musical styles.

I would have hoped that somebody who writes would understand the power of framing the story. With the MSM, it's never "Dem does bad stuff," it's "Republicans pounce/seize on [Dem bad stuff.]" Then again you probably knew that and are just trolling.

Lithium Mining & Disposal vs Gasoline
jerryskids replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
My wife drives an Explorer. At a work dinner the other night her boss and a coworker were talking about their Chevy Volts. Apparently there are some chargers at work, but time is limited. So and so is the head of supply chain and notoriously overstays his time, but nobody will send him a nastygram because he is the CFO's son... on and on they were complaining about the inconveniences. Finally my wife turned to another coworker and said, "they aren't exactly selling me about electric cars." Boss, overhearing: "Well, the great thing about it is I don't even know what the price of gas is!" Wife: "Mkay." My perception is that electric cars are still a cult, with some amount of enjoyment from self-flagellation. -

Thanks. I just checked out Total Wine -- $18 for a fifth (I was hoping for a smaller bottle to try, but...) and gets a 4.8 in the reviews. I think I'll give it a whirl, after Lent since I gave up whiskey. -

Oh, OK, only part of the time... also, if only we had four years of experience under Trump's dictatorial regime to realize that, other than mean tweets and making Euros mad for pointing out their being second-handers in NATO, that's not going to happen. But feel free to put VOA on repeat and cuddle into your safe space. -
Great description. The 70s into early 80s were my formative years in music. I was into musicality, which meant a lot of 70s prog rock and immense musical talents like Billy Joel. Being into musicality, you might imagine that I hated the 80s music in general (synth pop over musical complexity), which was a shame because that decade comprised my HS and college years. Interestingly, in hindsight, I actually love a lot of the music from the 80s. And not the hair metal. One of my favorite Sirius channels is 33 (First Wave) which is, basically, 80s emo music. Seems like every fourth song is Depeche Mode. But it is hella fun. What can I say, I partied a lot and banged a lot of chicks while that music was playing.

That was super popular. I read somewhere that they picked their band name by throwing a dart at a map of the US and it hit Bay City, Michigan. I should probably google it to find out, but I like the story and don't want to learn I'm wrong.

You keep saying this, but you never offer an alternative. And don't say Jesus, that's non-responsive.

Yep, I know all of those songs. I'm glad You Light Up My Life was on there -- I've seen that mentioned as the top song of the 70s (perhaps by time on the charts?), and it is excruciatingly bad. A few of them I kinda like though. Afternoon Delight is fun IMO. Escape is somewhat boppy.

I think it is entirely plausible that the leadership of all our military branches will follow Trump into dictatorship, and that all of the soldiers that have sworn to defend our country will follow that leadership as they take over the country with Trump. I can't believe anyone could possibly read that sentence and believe it. Which party believes in whackadoodle conspiracy theories? -

Ahh... I saw that one too, but most of the search results were for the one I listed. I'm not sure I've had Yukon Jack... Canadian whiskey and honey? Is it like Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey? If so, that stuff is pretty good. -

As it should be. I like the word "spurious" Let's use it in a sentence: "The spurious charges against Donald Trump were really an attempt to injure a political opponent." -

Again with your "vast majority of experts", meaning the APA. For the 9017438920th time: any such data would have been collected before the explosion of the social contagion. -

Sure. I already said I think Trump is racist, and described how and why. I think "Kung Flu" was some combination of him thinking it was funny, and being pissed that China unleashed it on us. I would bet money that in private, old Joe Biden snickered a little and thought "good one." Anyway, one of the things I like least about Trump is his use of epithets, particularly negative ones to dehumanize people (DeSanctimonious, Crooked Joe, etc.). While Kung Flu isn't a person obviously, I think it falls under a similar umbrella of Trump thinking he is being witty. Harris is welcome to be wrong about police brutality, as are you (I've provided the data, please don't rehash it). That doesn't make her sow division. Openly supporting a bail fund to get violent rioters out of prison... that's a little more sow-y. -

OK we are getting somewhere. I presume you disagree with the Saint Obama assertion. How about Sharpton? Race baiters in the democratic party? Is the author of your op-ed using racism to sow division? -

I agree with the first part: Donald Trump is like pretty much every 80-ish year old white man who grew up in segregation (or quasi-segregation). Pro tip: there is another candidate who fits this description. I grew up next to Scranton, 30 years after Biden did, and there weren't a lot of black people, and those that were, weren't mixing much with the white people. The second part is laughable. Barack Obama's legacy is using racism to sow division and discord in this country. People like Al Sharpton make a living doing it. The democratic party is neck deep in race baiters looking for racism in every corner, to sow division and discord in this country. Just like the author of that pathetic op ed. -

How's that hostage release coming? Has Hamas backed off their stance against a two-state solution, or continue their charter to eradicate Israel entirely? -

That op-ed was awful. Here is my summary: "Trump made comments that, if anyone else made them, would have been fine, but I hate Trump, so he's racist. Also, Trump treated Ben Carson like he treats every opponent, but Ben is black, so Trump is racist." -

Interesting, I haven't heard of this. Maybe I'll give it a try. Also I loved Thomas Covenant as a kid.

I don't think all Biden supporters are in favor of pedophilia, any more than all Trump supporters are racist misogynistic xenophobes. I think both sides make broad generalizations. -
