  1. Since you are too lazy or stupid to search yourself, here is what ChatGPT says: AI Overview Since the 9/11 attacks, US support for Israel has seen both reinforcement of existing ties and some evolving dynamics. Reinforcement and Continuity: Recognition of Common Foe: The shared experience of confronting international terrorism solidified some aspects of the relationship, with a recognition of common security concerns. Continued Security Assistance: The US has maintained and increased its security assistance to Israel, with agreements to provide billions in military aid, particularly focusing on maintaining Israel's qualitative military edge (QME). This support has become increasingly crucial during periods of conflict with groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. Support for a Two-State Solution (with conditions): While recognizing Israel's right to defend itself, the US administration, notably under President Bush, also expressed support for a Palestinian state, provided it was not born of terror. Evolving Dynamics and Potential Shifts: Israel's Expertise in Counterterrorism: Israel's extensive experience in counterterrorism and homeland security became a valuable asset for collaboration with the US after 9/11. Changes in Public Opinion: While government support has remained strong, there's been a noticeable shift in American public opinion, particularly among younger generations (millennials), with increased sympathy for Palestinians. Even within some traditional pro-Israel groups, like evangelical Christians, support has reportedly decreased. Debate and Domestic Criticism: The substantial US aid to Israel has sparked debate and domestic criticism, particularly concerning the war in Gaza and its impact on civilians. Strains in the Relationship: Recent events, such as the Israel-Hamas war, have led to increased tensions in the US-Israel relationship, particularly regarding the handling of the conflict and concerns about potential violations of international law. The Biden administration, while reaffirming support for Israel's security, has also voiced concerns about its actions. In essence, while the fundamental strategic alliance and US commitment to Israel's security remain strong, the relationship has evolved since 9/11, encompassing both deeper cooperation on counterterrorism and defense, alongside growing internal debate and some shifts in public and potentially political support for certain aspects of Israeli policy.
  2. I responded to your question. If that's your idea of a conversation, please don't ask me any more questions.
  3. Sometimes to get out of foreign conflicts, you have to use peace through strength. That's what I voted for. In six months Trump has managed to: - Get NATO to agree to a ramp to 5% of GDP. - Get Euro countries to begin transition of primary support of Ukraine to them vs. us. Are these things in line with your goals, jeenius? - Supported then assisted Israel in crippling Iran's military and nuclear capabilities. - Pressuring Qatar to end support of Hamas leadership. - In talks with many countries to join the Abraham Accords, including Saudi, Syria, Lebanon, Oman, and several former SSRs As opposed to Obama who got a Peace Prize for being a hipster black president, Trump's 6 months put him on the Mount Rushmore of foreign policy for US presidents (except for tariffs, but he seems to be backing off those). Peace through strength.
  4. I learned today that Palestinians are miserable, terrorist focks because Donald Trump took an airplane as a gift (which I disagree with him taking, as a side note). I also learned that without Israel, the Palestinians would have elected a peace-seeking democratic government 20 years ago, in contrast to the history of their entire existence, because we live in unicorn and rainbow world.
  5. Respectfully sir, an MIT grad understands the posts I've written. I'll never convince you that your alternative reality isn't necessarily unicorns and rainbows, so we can agree to disagree. Me from a position of reality, you from wishcasting.
  6. I'm just going by where we are today in the real world, which is that we haven't had another 9/11. It's practically impossible to prove a negative, though. You like to live in a fantasy world. Maybe if one of your wasted presidential picks was elected, things would be different.
  7. You know what's easy is to create your own revisionist history where everything comes up unicorns and rainbows.

    War Movies for the Weekend

Wife and I watched Maverick over the weekend. It was so perfectly shmalzy and a ripoff of the original movie, so it was a perfect 'Murca! film. Also, oddly predictive of recent events.
  9. Should be? I guess. Is it? Not really at this point. The Palestinians, for all of their co-existence with Israel and all the various shiot governments they chose during that time, consistently turn down options for viable solutions. "From the river to the sea" is not just for ignorant college kids to chant. But hey, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, so I guess we should give it another go.
  10. Moral equivalency! Did you attend Columbia? Also, we support Israel to prevent the Middle East from becoming one ginormous pile of terrorist shiot that, in the absence of Israel to be mad at, would turn their attention to other countries, like they did on 9/11.
  11. True. Israel helped Hamas in their beginning, long before the oughts, in hopes that they would be a counter to the then-leading shiot-show in the area, the PLO. They also gave aid to them when they were in power, in hopes/belief that it was aid for the Palestinian people. That was a fail, since Hamas took all the aid for themselves and built terror tunnels under hospitals, schools, and mosques. I'm confident that Israel regrets at least that latter decision.

    Done broke my collarbone

I'm good, thanks. Had a tumor come back earlier this year after almost 4 years which was a bummer, but we took it out surgically. We'll know better after 8/5 scans if there is nothing else. If so, we have some good treatment options. I'm cautiously optimistic. Hope you stick around.
  13. Why does Israel restrict their movement, MDC? Adult answer please, not what Mamdani's father teaches at Columbia, or Hamas Harry tells the media you sop up. ETA: Hint, I just said it in this thread yesterday.

    Welcome back buddy!

    NYC Mayor Race

This is Zoran's father, the professor at Columbia. Zoran grew up with this influence. On a wider scale, it is becoming clearer to me how we managed to fock up Gen Z, if this is the crap we're teaching our "best and brightest." In addition to the above bullet points, he is historically inaccurate (reservations pre-dated Lincoln's term), and he is so all over the map as to be almost incoherent.

    Done broke my collarbone

Thanks. I was going to ask if you hurt it bending over to pick something up from the top of your fridge. Did you get the medicine issue worked out? Good luck and keep us apprised.

    Does religion deny science?

Thanks. I saw that she has written a book on it. I'm not terribly familiar with gnosticism; your thoughts?

Is criticizing the Israeli government antisemitic?

Dang, I've never seen that movie. That scene was great!
  20. Yeah, there is that problem too. As MDC pointed out, there is an entire generation there that has been brought up learning hatred and terror. They know no other way.
  21. It's unfortunate that the parents put them in this situation. I'm merely pointing out who is responsible. How would you fix it? I would ask you to avoid some version of "I dunno, but not THIS$#@!" but that never happens.
  22. And why do they live in "apartheid"? If you don't know the answer, keep reading. 20 years ago the Palestinians, probably the parents of the current generation, had the chance to elect a democratic government and live in peace with Israel. Instead, they elected Hamas, a terrorist organization whose charter is to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews in the world (including you, Timmy). Those parents chose to raise their children in an environment of hate and terror. The situation there is 100% on Hamas and the people who elected them. HTH

    Why do you vote Liberal/Progressive?

Republicans are the party of married people, more so married people with kids. Also, straight and widowed men. Basically, responsible adults who have made good life choices. Democrats are the party of people who are: never married, divorced, or living with a partner. Also, gay men, and straight and gay women. Basically, unhappy people with no appreciable life wisdom. Data is below. The editorials at the end were mine. There is a graph at the link which shows this as well. https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2024/04/09/partisanship-by-gender-sexual-orientation-marital-and-parental-status/
