What Kinda Dad Did You Have Growing Up ?
jerryskids replied to BeenHereBefore's topic in The Geek Club
Interesting timing of this topic, as yesterday I saw Field of Dreams for the first time. Weird movie, and touching of course. I didn't have anything of a falling out like Costner's character, but to me, my dad was something of an "old man" while I knew him. I didn't realize it at the time; it wasn't until after he died (I was 18) that I began to hear stories of how he was a partying lady's man back before he got married. Basically, in hindsight it seemed that he decided that he was done with that part of his life, and that it was time to start the responsible husband and father part. Which he did well. On a scale of 1-10, he was an 11 in my world. My world as a young kid mostly involved three other boys in my tightest friend group, and their dads were all variations of shiot. So maybe it is relative a bit, but I can't compare otherwise, and I have no desire to complain. Yeah, my brother and I got spanked (hand, belt), but it was after we acted up, never for no reason. The song "Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg reminds me of him the most. They don't write lyrics like that any more. Now get off my lawn. One quick story: @Tebok will remember, as a fellow trumpet player, that I got a silver Bach Stradivarius trumpet for Christmas in HS. This is like, I dunno, the Ferrari, or Rolex, of trumpets. My dad was a foreman in a shoe factory, we didn't have Ferraris or Rolexes. Anyway, I always presumed that it was my mom who pushed for them to get me it. But I learned later that it was him. It's hanging on my wall as I type this. I can't play it anymore because of my laryngectomy. That saddens me for multiple reasons, not the least of which is the above story. As I type this, it occurs to me that I should find some young aspiring trumpet player to gift it to. I'm going to look into this. Thanks for the thread, @BeenHereBefore. -
I thought about him at my pick. He was my top player at the PGA, and he has been playing really well all year

[Posty] I don't think I've ever seen a complete episode. [/posty] To me it was a show that filled up one of the TVs at the sports bar.

Whatcha throwing on the grill/smoker this
jerryskids replied to Meglamaniac's topic in The Geek Club
My wife did this yesterday, along with grilled artichoke hearts and a homemade green goddess dressing (avocado, mint, and homemade kefir). It was delicious. In fact I added leftover tri tip to it for a salad for lunch today. Main dish tomorrow is a 3.5 pound beef tenderloin we had in the freezer. Bought it over Christmas but we had too much other food. My local two kids and son's GF are coming over to open the pool for the season, so we should make a good dent in it. Sides are zucchini and potatoes. We wanted some corn on the cob but she said it didn't look good. -

That's your takeaway from the curb stomping Rubio put on Van Holland, center-right guy? -
They looked mostly peaceful. Let's not deport any of them.

Harvard & Trump Thread: Harvard PREVAILS in its lawsuit against the Trump administration

Can they? Might there not be increased scrutiny for student visas at other colleges? -
I see @The Real timschochet didn't respond. He never does when it comes to requests for expectations from Hamas. He has none. It's easier for him to believe the Hamas Information Minister that 14000 children will die! Hamas is starving the children. Say it, Tim. While we're discussing Leftist simps, I noticed this: Yeah, that's what's happening. Did Hamas or UNRWA tell you that? They know you are tards who will believe the numbers they throw out there, and will believe that aid sent into the country will actually get to any kids actually starving. Perhaps you have an answer Gutter, to what Israel should do against an opponent whose charter is the elimination of all Jews not only in Israel but the planet, who sets up bases under schools and hospitals and mosques, and who, along with their people, have never ever supported a two-state solution (that solution being a figment of Leftist imagination)?

I'm not counting on anything, I was merely pointing out that there may be a valid legal attack on Harvard. And they haven't been laughed out of courts; ACB recused herself on the Christian charter school case which, had she not, would have likely been a win for conservatives. Can you think of a single case where the Leftist syncophant justices would have recused themselves to prevent a conflict of interest, errr... stopping a progressive attack on the legal status quo? -

Looks like Team Trump maybe found a legal way to stick a dagger into Harvard. -

Trump Admin Revokes Harvard’s Ability to Enroll International Students The DHS secretary posted the announcement on X. https://www.theepochtimes.com/us/trump-admin-revokes-harvards-ability-to-enroll-international-students-5862017?utm_source=RTNews&src_src=RTNews&utm_campaign=rtbreaking-2025-05-22-4&src_cmp=rtbreaking-2025-05-22-4&utm_medium=email&est=4JGh7l41ykerJzjEdQ5apfS%2FS8fRSOLSt7nZcdG8%2B3d4VfnfwlkCrb0jvnxgRMmu Dang, this escalated! That's fine, I'm not saying any one person is omniscient on this or any topic. In fact, that's kinda RFK's point.

Thank you for this. I know you've followed the science on this more than anyone here, so I appreciate your honesty. And then there is Gutter, who apparently thinks Covid is the same as the flu, and that the underlying technologies of the vaxxes are the same for the two.

1. That presumes that your model is accurate that the FDA was a perfectly science-driven, politics-agnostic organization. Does Big Pharma lobby the FDA at all? Also, "pulling" doesn't need to be 100%. It could mean removing recommendations and/or restricting for populations for which the benefits are not clearly obvious. 2. MSDNC refers to the cadre of leftist MSM organizations, not a specific person, so there is no dehumanization. 3, 4. The vaccine has been deemed not sufficiently proven safe and effective for certain populations. On this last point, I am a little concerned with long-term ramifications. Maybe I'll add my concerns to my old thread that was just bumped.
-
1. Thanks. So if for another vaccine, it was subsequently found to have a significant impact on heart health, would the FDA historically continue to allow them to young healthy people who absolutely do not need them? 2. I see you've entered Rusty territory with your dehumanizing "Brain Rot". What's your pet name for Biden who had dementia and cancer for years and wouldn't know his autopen if it was used for a physical prostate check? 3. We'll see. 4. Being a general supporter of vaccines doesn't mean I support allowing virtue signaling moms to give their young boys an unnecessary vaccine known to cause heart issues.
-
Thanks. You used to work in this industry, or adjacent at least: do you think that the FDA should require a comparable rigor for Covid as for other vaccines, particularly for younger people without comorbidities, given known issues like myocarditis? I say this as a person who has argued here in the past that vaccines are perhaps the greatest invention in the history of mankind, so I'm not anti-vax.
-
Is it a conspiracy theory that young people, particularly men, have a risk of cardiac issues from the vaccine?
