The dumb thing about comparing this to Daniel Penny, is that there was actual debate about whether that was justified. Obviously everyone (well maybe not literally everyone, but pretty much) agrees this dude should be killed or in jail for life.

As mentioned, my understanding is these people were not planned to be permanent employees, they were building the plant so that Americans could be hired to work there. The people detained likely included many engineers and such.

The Kia plant was built in 2009 and Wikipedia says the town population is only 2% Asian. The restaurants are probably more geared towards visiting executives on expense accounts. And the plant literally gives tours to the public. Would probably be hard to hide if they only had Koreans working there

Will be interesting to see how this plays out on multiple fronts. I watched the press conference and they claim this was a months-long investigation so hopefully law enforcement had their ducks in a row. But some are claiming that most of those detained were on visas, but possibly a visa meant for “training.” My understanding is they weren’t actually working at the plant, they were building the plant. And it of course is a battery plant so it’s not just throwing up some drywall. Regardless, will be interesting to see if anything happens with other South Korean companies investing in US manufacturing.

I’ve never denied that blacks commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime. All I’ve said is that doesn’t mean you should stereotype all blacks because of that.
