I don’t know the specific laws, but I would say simply leaving your kid outside unattended with an uncovered pool while you’re inside should not itself be a crime. But if the kid dies, yeah, that’s a problem. I don’t follow Kourtney Kardashian, did her kid die due to her neglect? I’ve seen some people use that detail to argue to get rid of mobile sports betting, which is stupid. But IMO placing the bet (and watching the game that he bet on) is more than just being distracted. He also admitted to allowing the 3 year old play outside while he wasn’t out there, despite the uncovered pool (which they apparently had a net for but didn’t have in use). If a normal person had to go take a dump they would bring the kid inside first (or at least put the cover on the pool).

Yeah I think hot car deaths are probably comparable to what happened here. But when that happens (like in your link) there are usually charges. Part of the reason this is more newsworthy IMO is because the dad is not being charged, despite blatant negligence. Another part of the reason this one is newsworthy IMO is because the mom is somewhat “famous.” I had heard about it previously, and was initially on board with it being a tragic accident. But the sports bet thing just came out, and apparently the bet was literally placed at the same time he was in the pool. Which makes it a lot less of an accident.

It should be a much bigger story than a couple getting beat up in a street fight
