C’mon Jerry, who is saying there is absolutely no crime in Portland? Sure there’s some, but it ranks probably somewhere around #100 among US cities. Having it be one of the first cities to send the National Guard to and calling it “war-ravaged” is laughable.

The main current protest is outside of the ICE facility. Even the Portland police have described it as “low energy” and often made up of less than 20 people.

I’ve posted this previously in here, it’s a little dated but agriculture is the second most right-leaning industry in terms of donations to Republicans on this list . https://finance.yahoo.com/news/charts-show-political-bias-workers-215100215.html -

Most MAGA’s don’t put their money where their mouth is. There is a guy on x named Derek something that likes to call out numerous MAGA “influencers” that source merch from sweatshops, it’s pretty funny. Even here, Strike claimed he had a buddy in the construction industry that “had to” hire illegals.” Except he doesn’t. If there is a demand for companies that don’t use illegal labor, you can advertise that fact and people should be willing to pay more. -

I’m no agricultural expert, is it even that common for illegal farm workers to get less than minimum wage? I would’ve figured they typically got something like $15-$20/hour, which to your point is still probably not enough for many of the locals to do it. -
I’ve seen it stated here (without evidence of course) that the mass deportations will solve the housing affordability crisis. I don’t understand how people can actually think this with a straight face. I’ve acknowledged that illegal immigration surely had some localized impacts on home prices & rents, but it’s mainly going to be at the lowest price levels, and of course only in areas where the illegals are actually going to (yet in 2020-2022 prices went up pretty much everywhere). More competition for cheap apartments in higher-crime areas isn’t going to lead to suburban homes costing $750K+. Here is some data with more reasons it’s likely not illegal immigration driving increased housing costs on a national basis: https://www.jchs.harvard.edu/blog/role-recent-immigrant-surge-housing-costs The surge in housing prices was driven by the pandemic in 2020, when immigration was at its lowest levels. And actually cooled down in 2023, despite the continued surge in immigration. And in 2024, several cities with large illegal immigrant populations, such as Houston and Tampa, saw no essentially increase or in the case of Tampa, a decline in home prices. https://www.fastcompany.com/91279086/housing-market-shift-where-home-prices-are-starting-to-fall IMO, if home prices come down in the next few years, it’s going to be driven by increases in unemployment. Of course I know if that happens people will claim it was because of mass deportations. But sticking to the present, I’m curious to see if anyone has any actual data to back up the claim that illegal immigration is a major factor in national home prices.

This guy thinks the second home rider says she can’t rent it at all. That is fake news. Second homes can be rented. -

Yes, thanks for agreeing with me (and disagreeing with Vance) that illegals weren’t driving up overall home prices nationally -

Still hilarious to me that people think mass deportations are going to bring down the prices of $500k+ homes in the suburbs -

Be careful, I tried telling them (may have even been @TBayXXXVII) previously that owners of companies that commonly employ illegals such as in construction and landscaping often lean right but they didn’t believe me -

Kilmar Abrego Garcia Thread - Garcia may be deported to Eswatini
TimHauck replied to squistion's topic in The Geek Club
Trump thought it literally said the letters MS 13. And weirdly no one has seemed to be able to find someone else with a similar tattoo. Skull = 3!!!! Lol He was never charged with domestic abuse and the child porn might be made up. He’s probably not a great guy, but the admin has made definitive statements about him that they’re not even attempting to prove (such as calling him a human trafficker, for example). And they also let an illegal that is an actual convicted human trafficker on the streets simply to testify against Abrego Garcia for a lesser charge than human trafficking, yet most MAGA folk don’t seem to care about that, even though POS’s like Strike have shown their true colors by being okay with being sent to a terrorist prison simply for being in the country illegally. Yes, Trump ultimately abided by the Supreme Court’s wishes, but only after the public as a whole was decidedly against the admin’s claims that they couldn’t get him back. -

lol gotta love Moran still reminding people that Trump literally thought the letters MS 13 were on Abrego Garcia’s knuckles -
They’ve done it the past. Mike Johnson doesn’t want to do that though

I think it’s actually Dems fault if they’re the ones that didn’t vote for the CR. But if they’re going to use the shutdown to fire people it’s just going to make people blame Republicans more.
